They don't need a bigger budget (I don't think anyone is saying this?) but the prosecutors don't follow up on crimes out of a desire not to imprison so people tend to just be released back onto the street, even after violent crimes. Apparently progressive good governance involves paying high taxes so the state can ignore you and your concerns about basic services. It's more democratic as AOC recently told me.

Way way way back, when Sony had the Metreon there, I visited and thought it’d be a cool city to live in. When I went back as an adult a few years ago, yeah, no.
