2021: yay, nay, or gay?
« on: January 01, 2022, 11:58:38 PM »
Pretty rocky personally.

Yay: Founded my own film production company and got my driver's license. :o Vegas was also cool this year. 8) My dog is awesome and I love her. :heart
Nay: A few more family and close ones passed on, this is getting to be a trend. :-\ I'm also not as independent as I'd like to be yet, and had to suspend production on my first project. (Thankfully, it should restart soon. 🤞)
Gay: Three years... ☠ Been pretty lonely honestly.

Thank you for making this thread since I apparently forgot!

Professionally it was a yay but everything else was a nay. I voted mupepe :doge

Yay
+ Became a VP by 35, which is The American Dream
+ Finally completed my conversion to Judaism, which took a bit over a year to do

Nay
- Because I became a VP, I have no life. Anyone who said people are this level don’t work are full of shit. Work basically is my life now
- Haven’t touched the Switch in months which means no dent in my backlog
- Broke up with someone who I really wanted to start a family with. The chances of having a family now are low, especially since I’m getting into middle age

Gay
~ Disappointingly nothing here

Yay:
-Replaced my 2014 model car that got totaled by a drunk/high teenager a few months before COVID with a 2019 with less miles(yay)...for only twice the price(nay?)
-Went back to the gym after 15 months and lost 25 pounds in the first two months. Basically from 10% "overweight"  to a right-in-the-middle "normal" BMI which puts me at 10 pounds less than my last pre-COVID weigh in.
-Received a 30+% raise after years of shitty 2% raises. That plus overtime now being on the table because we're understaffed means I might be OK financially after all.
-Invested my savings into some basic bitch stocks/index funds for the first time and made 30% of what I made from my yearly salary in gains.
-Was able to take a vacation to Europe for the first time and didn't catch the COVID.

Nay:
-My remaining grandfather passed away(after the other passed from COVID last year). I wasn't that close to him but it was pretty upsetting to see his steep decline in physical and mental health in the last six months.
-My faith in humanity has never been lower. Beyond the COVID/anti-vaxx fuckery, I don't see how the government is going to be able to do anything substantial to curb the climate change crisis.
-The prospect of home ownership seems so remote compared to the generation before me.

Gay:
-Never felt lonelier. Bad faith actors have made it basically impossible to approach anyone in public without it being incredibly awkward or coming off as a creep. That leaves dating apps which basically set you up to take your time and attention to be monetized, humiliated, ghosted and catfished? Fuck me. Going into my mid-thirties I would at least like the option to start a family but if I'm realistic it seems like that's very quickly disappearing, especially taking fertility rates and complications into consideration. This basically preoccupies my mind 95% of the time and leaves me bitter, depressed and without the ability to find joy almost anything.

Basically, the rational part of me knows I should be grateful for what I have and I should stop being a little bitch and put myself out there before it's too late and I get permanently joker-fied/40-year-old virgin'ed.

Yay
  • Shipped my second game in two years (after a 10 year dry spell, no joke) during the pandemic at a workplace actively against remote work, set up a livable schedule to ship the game on additional platforms in the coming months
  • Quit that job
  • Traveled to the USA for the first time in 2 years during the only window when Japan has allowed it; within a month of my return, Japan has gone Sakoku 2.0
  • Successfully visited my Mom nearly every day I was there, while administering her estate, getting everything squared away for her assisted living to be free of liabilities and worries
  • Landed a new job while doing all that, in a place that respects and treasures the experience I bring -- with my first raise in a long while (Japan is wage-stagnant)

Nay
  • Seeing my mother's decline was disheartening and traumatic
  • Ate too much in the USA; was pretty much a complete pig with access to all the stuff I've missed in Japan
  • Drank too much
  • Didn't start dieting until December, and have been half-assing it
  • Trying hard not to bring emotional garbage from my last two jobs to this remarkable new studio - not 100% successful

Gay
  • Had some fantastic beers with an ex.coworker and his boyfriend, sipped each others' beers; in the age of COVID19 counts as barebacking.
