Wow.  I just noticed the Zero Punctuation thread on the front page of GAF.  From page 42, I had to go back to page 36 to find the link to the actual review.  I usually expect a couple of people to have a serious meltdown over Yahtzee's humorous reviews, but even by gaf standards that thread is truly insane.

I don't think I've participated in a religious thread of any kind in over a year; I just don't find the topic very interesting at the moment. But that's not how most religious threads go. The threads are redundant, but c'mon!

In real life, people are more likely to exhibit tact and completely avoid topics that involve people's cherished personal beliefs, especially beliefs dealing with religion or politics. The atheist is not alone in his reluctance. Most people hold beliefs for non-rational reasons, so any criticisms of these beliefs will likely be met with a harsh reaction. The internet affords people the opportunity to discuss topics openly without worrying about people's thin skin.

Not really. I only ever visited 4chan because that's what all my other friends did, and I found some of their antics (like Habbo raids and Photoshop threads) to be amusing.

Besides, the monsignor at my church is the kind of guy who says he'd resort to physical violence if he was ever in the same room with one of those pedo-priests. One time some crazy dude came in with a gun and started setting the altar and bishop's chair and pulpit on fire, and this 80-something chain-smoking Monsignor walked up and cursed him out with that Irish brogue of his, before he finally walked away and called the police. Totally incomprehensible when he's speaking at the pulpit, because he turns up the bass and turns down the treble on the microphone to make sure he can sound authoritative and loud. He grew up as shepherd, and actually had to go back to Ireland recently when his 70-something brother got crushed by a bale of hale.


So yeah, he's like a living stereotype.
