same boat - i'm aware they've hired a ton of tech staff so i think the game is going to look fantastic, the problem is that creating a AAA+ FPS is not something trivial. Many have tried before, and it's not the tech side that is the problem. This does feel hauntingly like a replay of the KZ1 run up. I hope it's a great game (because it's distinguished mentally-challenged to hope it's not given i'll be buying it) but i really don't expect it to do much outside of look spectacular and be as good as, say, FEAR.
Bar set realistically and hopefully they can prove me/us wrong.
I don't think it's going to be
terrible. I might
say that I do, because it gets a whole lot of people worked up (and groping for gifs), but I think it will be alright, and have some good ideas. I disliked Killzone quite a bit (bought it because I was dumb enough to believe Wollan's hype talk, go figure), mostly because of issues like repeating dialog and comical glitches, but there was one thing that I thought was very cool, unparalleled even. When you played as the assassin chick, you could use your knife for quiet kills. Throwing the knife into a Helghast's throat is one of the most wicked moves I've ever come across in an FPS. Thud gurgle thud. Awesome, and very well presented.
Let's just hope KZ2 has more going for it than just a couple of good ideas and a great artistic presentation. Personally, I'm banking on the reliable studios, like Insomniac and Sucker Punch to keep delivering good to great, well designed games, although I don't think Sony will ever have something with as much mainstream appeal as, say, Halo. Killzone 2 is going to be huge, because it does everything it should be doing as an FPS, and will look and sound good doing it. Quality though? We'll see.
