I blazed through the first season of boardwalk empire in like two days, mouth full of cigar smoke for the last few episodes just to feel in place.  I would say the finale is good and wraps everything up but it's nothing too unexpected.  One of my complaints about the show is that it doesn't seem to ambitious with the concept since it does a period we've seen so many times before but it's all writing and the acting that save it and the finale set up a lot of stuff for the next season.

I just started watching True Blood a few days ago and I'm halfway done with season 3.  It's a really good show, tragic that I took this long to catch on since every time I heard about it people would compare it to Twilight which I don't get.  I mean, at least compare it to Blade or something when there's this much sex/violence.

Double episode of Psych was awesome.  Sitcom Gus. :lol

Yeah, double Psych was fucking phenomenal. The entire UPN bit had me rollin' then the damn car slide omg. Show is fucking great and is the best buddy comedy TV show ever.

Psych is definitely a show I grew to love but I actually think its a show where they hit their stride, the more of them they did. It's not a classically great show in that it's not deep, or especially brilliant writing but the dynamic between James Roday and Dulé Hill is just terrific. If it wasn't those two and two different people it would probably be a bad show. But those two just elevate it. They actually seem like best buddies and it just comes across in the show.

For any fans of Charlie Brooker or Screenwipe or Newswipe, his 2010 wipe / year in review episode came out.  It's more Newswipe than Screenwipe but still entertaining, and better depending on how you feel about those shows.

The season finale to Boardwalk was... interesting.  I don't think it was bad at all, just not what I expected.  I'll be interested to see how this twist will turn out next season.

watching Stargate: Universe on netflix
i have literally no Stargate history so i dunno how to completely ties into the rest of the series but it seems to be doing a pretty good job of getting me up to speed on the necessities.

seems like it's pretty obviously influenced by BSG. seems alright so far.

Marathoned Breaking Bad around New Years.

amazing show, up until about halfway through season 3.  actual big spoilers:
spoiler (click to show/hide)
It's not as good now that all the original tense plot points are effectively "resolved."  His wife is getting in on it, his cancer is basically cured, his job is basically safe and secure, he's got more money than he ever wanted.  It's like they made Jesse fuck up and try to kill those guys just so they could buy some time to figure out what to write next.  The "fly" episode was some shameless filler.

I'm not sure they have anywhere to go but down from the non-stop awesomeness of the first two and a half seasons.

Regardless, it's up there with the Wire, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Futurama, and Mad Men in my top 5 shows.

I kinda enjoyed it. It was interesting to see his character go through that malaise once the stimulation of *needing* that money and the self-justification and urgency went away - yet he couldn't really turn back. It may have stunted the plot, but it never was a plot-driven show - they repeatedly emphasize that they write wherever the characters take them.

Such a polarizing episode but I also liked "Fly". If I remember correctly the episodes beforehand were overarching so it was interesting to go back to the base and watching Jesse and Walt dealing with each other. It was a slow burn.

mamacint-- I can see where they're coming from.  it's sort of the only way to go, since there's no way to keep the tension as high as it was forever.  But for me the way they've gone is making for a less interesting show and seems to not be as tight or as visceral as before.

I am on the hate side of the Fly episode.  I'm kind of disenchanted with metaphorical and experimental writing lately.  I thought the show was deep enough already, so devoting the whole episode to a simple metaphor felt a bit cheap.

groan.

Whatever. do what you like.

Imo the best part about Galactica is probably the characterization and individual character moments. So skipping episodes sounds like a very odd way to experience the show but to each his own.

Hey watch it however you want. I've been through twice and there are certainly episodes I skipped the second time around. Black Market for instance is god damn awful.

But the first time around you might as well watch the whole thing in some semblance of how it was aired if you have the time.

Some of my favorite BSG episodes aren't especially plot heavy to the main storyline.

The episode was basically to show where the characters are at at that point in the series.  It's like when the RV battery ran out in the desert, it showed them working together and understanding each other's reasons for getting into selling meth and all that.  On paper, you wouldn't think the fly episode would be necessary but I thought it was great because it showed them really developing their partnership more.

Finished up Party Down. Yeah....

That's one of the best tv shows ever. Maybe in my personal top 5. Definitely top 10. Best comedy for me since the UK office....I may have liked this better.

Best writing and best characters ever in a sitcom. Lizzy Caplan is my latest tv crush.  Great ending and actually serves as a fitting finale imo even if it wasn't necessarily intended to be that.

Also this slayed me.

Still being sick and having exhausted other entertainment avenues (i.e. masturbation), I finally decided to give Party Down a go. I ranged the gamut from "A 14-year old could have written these gags!" in the first few episodes, to becoming slightly endeared to the characters at the halfway point, and by the time I was at the last couple of eps I was laughing out loud. Definitely going to grab season 2, though I can see why the show had a hard time. If I wasn't so starved for entertainment here in my shack, or had to judge the series on the first episode, I don't know that I'd have gone back, or stuck with it.

I started watching Doctor Who for the first time, watching watching, not catch half an episode every three months. And I have to say: this show is brilliant.

The cheap effects reminds me of the BBC children shows I used to watch as a kid, so even though I'm watching for the first time, it can be somewhat nostalgic.

I just started the third season and I'm glad they got rid of Piper. Sometimes she gets too euphoric at inappropriate times to the point of distinguished mentally-challenged. Martha Jones though :bow2

Started watching Oz; two episodes in. Can't think of another show I've watched where I recognize every other actor from a film or another show lol. Very good so far. The show has this odd whimsical atmosphere, yet at the same time is disturbing; it's like some gothic fantasy. It's also odd seeing a prison with as much freedom, and breaking of standard procedures, as this; cells with doors inmates can open, jewelry, pencils being passed out, etc. Not complaining about the lack of realism, just comes off weird even if it's not a look at gen pop

Rome

I watched it back in maybe 2007.  I liked it but didn't really appreciate it.  I thought a lot of it was a cheap-ratings-cash in of titties and generic intrigue wrapped up in an expensive package for TV.

I came across burned copies of it last week that I had tucked away in a pirated DVD book that I forgot completely about.  My mind was blown away by the show.  I never paid much attention to the details that the show had.  I've also been binging on reading up on Roman and ancient history since.  I watched all two seasons within a week.
