Seems to me like they just needed someone to hold the bag.  :lol

Which explains why Ben Wallace and a bunch of others passed on this and the Labour party isn't really pushing hard for new elections either.  :doge
The Shitting on Liz's braindead economic plan is just a smokescreen for what is really happening, the Pound, Yen and Euro are equally collapsing as investors flee to the dollar and inflation skyrockets.
We'll soon see US corporations adjust their overseas prices.

Ukraine has taken Borova, now moving on Svatove.
Once again outflanking the Russian defenders.

Eventually Ukraine will be unable to push the line forward and there will be a stalemate situation, similar to what happened earlier in the summer. But with winter coming and these cities back under Ukrainian control I'm not sure what Russia can do conventionally. The HIMARs/artillery are being moved up, the weapons keep pouring in. Any attempt to zerg rush these newly fortified positions will end in disaster for unprepared and poorly equipped Russian soldiers.

Well after Lyman Russia is running out of places to organize this stalemate in Luhansk.

Svatove for example is surrounded by a forest and thus nearly impossible to defend.
The Russians pulled back to the Svatove, Kreminna line but there is no such thing. The Ukrainians can just outflank them through the woods.

This is why Russia 'fears' a NATO owned Ukraine because it's impossible to defend their borders on such a wide front.
You either have to stay and fight in cities (which is useless against arial and missile attacks in modern warfare) or you have to fortify a defensive line across the entire front.
Ukraine faced the same problem when they were on the defense. All they could do was stall Russia in cities like Mariupol. Using giant factories as fortresses.

Winter and heavier artillery should hold much of that for Ukraine against these noobs. At which point I'm not sure what Putin does.

But even before that Ukraine is gonna continue striking across annexed lines and likely retake it without a massive Russian response. He basically has to use nukes at that point if the goal is truly to keep the territory right? I'm not even sure where he'd drop a bomb though, which is the other issue.

Even China warns Putin against using nukes. Apparently he wants to stage a test in the black sea within days to show he's not bluffing.

the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) announced it has purchased more than 1,330 terminals from SpaceX to send to Ukraine, while the company donated nearly 3,670 terminals and the Internet service itself.
Sounds like the US government bought additional units on top of those donated by SpaceX plus they handled the shipping through military channels (which makes sense).

Little concerned that all these Ukraine gains are Russia baiting them into a nuclear surprise. Then they can claim that because the land is Russian (see vote) its not an international issue to conduct nuke tests on Russian soil

Will be a bad day for the stock market

You missed the relevant part:
Quote
Since then, the company has cast the actions in part as a charitable gesture. “I’m proud that we were able to provide the terminals to folks in Ukraine,” SpaceX president Gwynne Shotwell said at a public event last month, later telling CNBC, “I don’t think the U.S. has given us any money to give terminals to the Ukraine.

But according to documents obtained by The Technology 202, the U.S. federal government is in fact paying millions of dollars for a significant portion of the equipment and for the transportation costs to get it to Ukraine.

Too much galaxy brain shit for me. This invasion was stupid and should have killed any "Putin the master strategist" stuff but it persists no matter how many embarrassments the Russian forces take. In the early days/weeks, when Ukraine was clowning Russia in open battlefield situations the argument was "but look at this convoy of tanks, they're gonna surround Kyiv and take it." When that failed miserably the goal posts shifted to "but now the Donbas are ripe for being taken." Then that flopped, a counteroffensive wiped out Russian lines and now suddenly you think this could be a master plan to bait a nuke strike lol?

While I agree Putin is being pushed into a corner and the nuclear option is perhaps the last card he has left, I'm not sure how that works for him. Any type of mass casualty nuclear strike would result a massacre of Russian soldiers/bases/equipment by the US Air Force and world condemnation (including China). I'm not sure how this ends but if it remains a conventional war, I just don't see how Russia can hold what they've gained - or retake much of anything they've lost. Worse yet with winter coming.

The only way for Putin to get out of this jam is to win this war and his army isn't capable of winning it.

It's going to be a slow grind with thousands of dead Russians until someone in Moscow decides they've had enough.
Unfortunately that is likely to be an ultra nationalist like the leader of Wagner (who also has the military means for a coup) with the help of Kadyrov or Putin himself who replaces the top military brass.
The latter is now sort of being communicated on the state TV channels. They call for Russia to regroup, fix the logistics, produce more arms and properly train the mobilized forces into new armies.
That all sounds good on paper but they can't do any of those things fast enough to save their army now.

People are starting to call this war 'Rumsfeldian' as just like in Iraq a war is being fought based on a political reality that is disconnected from the conditions on the battlefield.
As Rumsfeld himself put it: "You fight with the army you have, not with the army you want". The US lacked the troops they actually needed to occupy and secure Iraq, which meant widespread looting and ultimately an insurrection.
There's not much the Russians on the front can do except wait for the home front to get their shit in order and properly supply and reinforce the army.

They advanced 70km in 4 hours.

Basically what remains of the Kherson front is now within Ukrainian artillery range.
The Russians can't escape or reinforce because the bridges have been destroyed.

Ukraine has sattelite intelligence and vehicle identifiers.

Good chance there's a lot of votes who may not want to condone this specific annexation but also not potentially set precedent for the UN opposing other annexations. A secret vote allows everyone to make multiple different claims about the meaning of it while also potentially withholding their own vote. "I don't want to breach the sanctity of the secret vote by revealing our vote." Etc.

There's a bunch of countries like Saudi Arabia, Israel, Belarus, China, Turkey, Iran, India, Japan, Serbia, Sudan many places in Africa and Central Asia etc. that would probably vote against or abstain in a secret ballot.
They can't in public though, not without significant backlash.

If Putin had taken Kyiv in February it would've been a done deal and a lot of countries would've accepted the new situation.
The only reason this drags on with so much NATO support is that the Russians fucked it all up.
