Sellers of smutty pictures were then "shadowbanned" across Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and other sites, the suits allege.
yeah, anyone who believes in "shadowbans" is a fucking idiot, end of.
Needless to say, multiple posters read headline and believe its trufax.
shadowbanning does exist for certain sites, but in those cases it is generally well-documented
one of my reddit accounts was shadowbanned. I hadn't used it in a while and my password wasn't very creative or strong, and some bot had hijacked it and used it to make posts shilling a scam shopping site. I was freaked out and changed my password immediately, but the damage was done. I would make posts and no one would reply to them, like no one was seeing what I was saying.
eventually a moderator replied to me and said "hey, just so you know, our tools are automatically flagging your posts for review and they aren't made visible until we see them and approve them, you might want to check if you're shadowbanned." there's a sub where you can post a thread to see whether you are shadowbanned and a bot will check whether your comment was auto-hidden and tells you.
https://www.reddit.com/r/ShadowBan/I messaged admins to explain the situation and no one fucking cared or got back to me so I made another account
it is a leap of logic to instantly assume every site has such systems and start screaming that you've been silenced, but if reddit implemented it, I don't think it's unreasonable to think there might be others out there
