REALLY!??Insanely Clueless: Hi, I just came into the office and there's no power at my desk.
Me: Are you on a desktop or a laptop? (Profile shows both)
IC: Desktop.
Me: Do the monitors have any power?
IC: How would I check this?
Me: The power lights in the front would be orange.
IC: No.
Me: Does it look like anything has been unplugged?
IC:I don't think so but I'm not sure.
Me: OK, and it's not a laptop? It looks like you just got one.
IC: No, like I said, I'm in the office with a desktop. They just gave me one of those Thinkpad things.
Me: That's a laptop.
IC: Oh, it is?
Me: Yes- is it turned on?
IC: I don't know.
Me: Can you check to see if it is powered on? Is there a light on?
IC: It's not. Where is the power button?
Me: It's on the right side of the laptop.
IC: No it's not. There's nothing there.
Me: It looks like a long oval-shaped button.
IC: No, I just see keyboard keys. Is it this little red nub?
Me: No- it's on the SIDE of the laptop- not the front, the side.
IC: OH! I got it. It's on. I'll close the lid now--
Me: PLEASE DON'T DO THAT YET. Let me see if I can connect with you now.
Me: ....OK, it's set to do nothing when the lid is closed, however there's no external displays connected. It also shows that it's using the battery right now. Can you plug it in?
IC: It's plugged in.
Me: It's not plugged in or the power cable isn't plugged into an outlet.
IC: Yes it is! It's plugged in!
Me: This battery icon shows that it's not using the AC for power. Are you sure the dock is connected?
IC: Oh, I have to plug the dock in!?
Me...Yes.
IC: I thought I only needed to plug it in when I go home.
Me: You're definitely going to need to plug it in to ensure that the battery doesn't run down.
IC: Everything is working now, yay!
