Played for 3 hours last night.:rock

I did not think it would be this fun, especially playing with a full band.  I played mostly bass and guitar in group career mode.  The song list is pretty solid and I also bought a downloadable song.  Could've tried vocals, but I'm a terrible singer so forget that.

This is definitely the best party game ever.

My wife and I played for two hours earlier today in World Tour Mode and had an absolute blast. I was on the guitar, and she was on the microphone. And then, a friend came over and joined in the drums, and we played for another hour. Soo much fun!

just played EIGHT HOURS of band world tour mode

we got a jet and unlocked all the non-US venues before calling it a night

everyone was swapping instruments throughout the evening. truly an unparalleled party game experience.

Are we all in agreement that Rock Band beats the fuck out of Guitar Hero III with it's fucking dick?

I know the songs are a little easier, but I think EA/Harmonix was trying to ease people into this game like they did with the first Guitar Hero. That is going to make Rock Band II one hard mother fucker. (hopefully)

My only complaint is that in multiplayer mode several of the same songs continue to appear over and over and over and over and over and over again. I probably sung Creep and In Bloom a million times. By the end of the night I was five-starring it on hard on the vocals.

I'm tempted to pick this up on Friday with my Employee Appreciation Days discount after playing it at a party the other night, but on the other hand... it was at a party.  If you're playing by your lonesome and don't have a jam session going on, I see this game being pretty useless.

It's no different from Guitar Hero playing solo.

You can also try vocals or drums on solo, which are not in GH.  Drums are very fun but hard.

it's definitely WAY more fun at parties, but yeah--the solo career and online play modes are no different than Guitar Hero. and drums rules.

The solo experience is the same as GH.  Note charts for guitar are considerably easier in Rock Band, but prove to be more interesting while avoiding finger-knotting hand positions.  A non-issue for all but the most hardcore music game nerds.  My initial impression of it was the feeling of it being more true to the original Guitar Hero than any of the sequels.

Drums are awesome, but unless you have some prior experience with real-life drums, there's a steep learning curve.  You should be able to play through pretty much anything on Medium after several hours practice, but Hard and Expert could take months to adjust to even playing some of the second tier songs.  I could see myself being totally content with just soloing with the drum sku.

That's a good point, I never thought about DLC like that actually.

Kind of shitty that it has no value except to the original game owner (or if you keep the game.)

I picked up the Bowie pack earlier today on the Playstation Store. Moonage Daydream is still my favorite Bowie song, but those covers are actually pretty good. Heroes was a lot of fun.

I also beat easy mode and have moved on to medium difficulty. I've never played a guitar or Guitar Hero before, so I'm adjusting to adding in the blue button and relying on my pinky finger.

fucking fuck fuck

my guitar is the biggest piece of shit ever.  Seriously, the strum bar is the LEAST of its problems.  The pickup switch is off center, so when I want to switch my effects and I have to FORCE it with a good deal of strength.  The buttons are loose as fuck with smudges all over them, and there are scratches on the body of the guitar.

Fuck you Harmonix–send me a new guitar plz!  Signed up for the repair, better get here soon.

The drums are fine though, I think.  At first it seemed like they weren't working, but it was just a synching problem.  Fixed it

I'm leaving it at home. Can't bring it to school. The drums are currently parked in front of my futon.

My cousin came over today (drummer for like ten years) and he just set it to hard and went to town on the things. It was awesome. He was pretty impressed with it.

Yea, the group of friends I played with on Festivus included an incredibly skilled drummer of over a dozen years and a musician who played drums for a bunch of years, is also skilled at the viola, but is mostly just an awesome guitarist now. They loved it. Of course, they both had always enjoyed Guitar Hero as well, but they definitely liked Rock Band more. Who wouldn't? After we finished eating dinner, the latter friend just said to me, "Wanna go back to playing Rock Band?"

Funny thing: The first friend said the usual "Man, this is such a ripoff of Guitar Hero." :lol
