I picked up the PS3 version this morning at Best Buy (Federal Way, WA). They had probably 15 PS3 bundles, and 50 360 bundles sitting at the front of the store.

I highly doubt Best Buy is getting 156 units of the bundles, because it's a logistic impossibility.

First off, there aren't that many bundles out there.  EA has scrapped together all they could to put as much hardware out there day one and even then, they've stated they'll be unlikely to meet demand.  Best Buy will get more units than most retailers and I've implored folks to go there first to attain them, but it's going to be more like a 2:1 ratio and not a 25:1 ratio.

Second, as someone who has 20 or so total bundles sitting in my backroom (for PS3 and Xbox 360), those things are huge, and even a megastore like Best Buy would have difficulties backstocking 156 units.  It'd take up a quarter of their stockroom!

They are pretty big.

yes, it's Electric Version

I really like the tradeoff between note chart difficulty and accuracy in Rock Band. GH3 in particular you can button mash through solos. the meter is also much more unforgiving than in Guitar Hero.

i just picked it up!  talk about an impulse buy.  my ea friend gave me the heads up he wasn't going to claim his bundle, so he let me buy it off him for a *special* price  :-*.  it may sit unopened tonight though, mass effect is calling.

I saw two moms buying it, and even heard the security guard at Target talk about it. This thing is going to be a hot item this Christmas, so I couldn't refuse buying what could be a nice investment.

I've never played Guitar Hero, this was a total impulse purchase. The track list is absolutely awesome, and the whole "no more until February 2008" forced me to get it right now. I didn't preorder, I just walked into Best Buy this morning and picked one up.

There were a bunch of people buying Rock Band (360 and PS3), I even saw three people buying 80GB PS3s and Rock Band. As I driving towards Best Buy, there were a couple guys walking the other direction lugging the big ol' boxes back to their homes.

Fucking Stunning.

I grabbed a PS3 version this morning alongside Patel.  Have to say it took me almost 40 minutes to get the lag calibrated to a level that's 'playable', mostly because it's got a confusing two-part calibration now (A/V lag + controller lag).  Once I got it set up decently, I grabbed the guitar and dove right in.

I totally agree with Patel - this is the game I've been waiting for since GHI.  The note charts are fun, the song selection is brilliant, they are well placed in the song list (every city has been two or three out of five songs that I was dying to play)... it's all gravy, baby.

When I got to "Say It Ain't So" by Weezer and the crowd started singing along with the song was one of those moments I'm going to remember for a long, long time.  I had a giant shit-eating grin plastered all over my face.  Great stuff.

The degree to which this smokes GHIII and even GHII is frankly embarrassing (for Activision/NS).  Amazing!!

Oh, and if anyone's interested, the PS3 version looks and plays great, bit framey but no worse than the movies they have up on their site (which I assume are from the 360 version since their former programmer said it 'looked better' surely they'd use it for the promo vids).  Wireless guitar is great, guitar build quality is substantially better than the GHI/II PS2 guitars or the 360 X-plorer.

The guitar is a bit different from the RO models, but it's growing on me. The buttons are far and away better. The strum bar is much more "strummy" and less "clicky." I find that if I just casually whack it with my fingertips, I do fine. If I hold it between my thumb and forefinger (like I do the GH guitar) I tend to miss notes more often.

Same, although I really like the feel of the new strum bar.  Of particular note for me is that I'm used to doing the 'whacking' motion, and this bar doesn't ever seem to 'spring' back up and register another hit by coming too far back up on the recoil, which used to occasionally make me lose my streak in songs where I'm more excited and really 'rocking out'.  Love that.

Yeah, I think ultimately I as well will prefer the new strum bar. It just requires a different playing technique (but one which is closer to the actual guitar playing motion, in the end).

So the 360 bundle has no wireless guitar and the PS3 version has framedrops?  Kinda hard to make a decision for someone that doesn't care about achievements.

the PS3 version doesn't have any more framedrops than the 360 version, from what I've seen of both. It's just a framey engine.

No, I think both of them have framedrops.  Go watch the movies on their site or look at one of the demo kiosks at best buy (those are 360 version).  The point I was trying to make is that I don't see this supposed performance delta that this guy hinted at heavily.

As Patel said, 'no', but to expand a bit, your note chart bar is running at a perfect locked 30/60fps (depending on your tv).  It's only the 3d stuff of your band jumping around that can get framey from time to time.

Is anyone else having weird quirks with their strum? I swear I'm hitting notes but it's not registering. The only calibration I did was set it to LCD TV. I'm reading on GAF that this is a known issue. I do the downstrum, upward is just awkward.

I'm doing Medium and I know I'm not that awful, I normally get 97+% but there are moments during songs, usually the bits with lots of close notes (probably to imitate strumming) where it just goes to shit.

My best friend is coming into town this week for the holiday, and he's been playing the drums since he was ten.  He can't wait to try this out and see how it matches up.

It's too late to open it now, so I'll just give it some play tomorrow morning.

When it comes to visible nerdcrap I've had in my home over the years, this setup is probably going to be one of the lesser embarrassments

Yea, I'm really surprised you bought it demi. Basically every review and person pointed to it not being a great single-player experience. I would think the GH series would suit you better. And good luck hoping they don't get more bundles out, because right now it doesn't seem all that hot. At least going by my Best Buy. :lol

So should I get GH II or GH III for my extra guitar?  Which guitar and game is better?  I don't give a shit about the GH III guitar being wireless since all the other instruments on 360 are wired.  I want the best guitar and game, isn't GH II made by the same team that did RB?

Can I buy GH I songs on 360 for GH II?

I played this game at a friends house for three hours tonight and brought my RB guitar, and played some drums after a bit.  It's the most fun I've had gaming since I was a kid.  I've never played a GH game but always wanted to.

There just aren't words...  I was playing "Wanted Dead or Alive" by Bon Jovi and managed to get to the point where the crowd was signing along again... and was totally floored.  During the chorus, where he says "I'm Wanted.... dead or alive", there's TWO TIMES in the whole song where he says "I'm Wanted (WAAAANTE~~~D)  dead or alive".  The crowd was throwing in that extra 'WAAAAANTE~~~~D" when singing along.

The thing that floors me, is that's EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENS AT A BON JOVI CONCERT.  Everyone remembers that part with the extra forceful version and sings it at the wrong times, cause they are just getting too far into the song.  Amazing.  Harmonix hit it out of the park on this one.

Also, Patel and I just did online (guitar+bass) and it's pretty much flawless.  Of course, we live all of 20 miles apart so YMMV.
