At the beginning of the Brutal Legend demo, the nu-metal group comes out, and I thought, "Korn? Or is that Limp Bizkit?"

LEGO RB setlist revealed:

There are some good songs in there. Has any more been said about how the exporting to regular Rock Band will work? It would be sweet if it works like RB1 to RB2, then I can just rent it and pay for the key.

You have to pay a $10 export fee in addition to the $50 game, but ALL the songs export, even Hendrix.  And the export is a one time use.  Renters annihilated.  :-\

You have to pay 60 to export it, in all. And, if you sell it after that, and lets say your HD fails or w/e and you need a new one? You have to buy the game and pay it again because it's only a one time use code.

At that point you would be able to rent it and rip the songs to your hard drive since the export key would be tied to your account.

So Hendrix does export.
$10 to export 45 songs is ... 22 cents a song, twice what was being charged for the GH exports and RB1's.

I'm guessing it's not twice that, rather we're paying a few dollars of that for Hendrix.

0That's still pretty dumb, especially for a shitty song like Fire. A Wind Cries Mary plz.

ALso Dave put this analogy on gaf:

$3.50 for 35 songs in GH vs $10 for 45 songs in L:RB.

That's crazy.

After you redeem the code, the download is in your previously downloaded list on the Playstation Store. Unless Harmonix is super greedy, it will be tied to your PSN account, just like the AC/DC track pack and Rock Band 1 export codes.

For the hell of it. I just went along that thought process because it seems like Lego Rock Band's export is expensive because of that song alone.

I'd still buy it.

Although, honestly, it seems like a lot of people just want the game for the DLC. I actually want to play through the game on its own merits. Too bad the RB2 game won't export yet, so no RB2 "kid-safe" songs in it, just RB1 and DLC.

Isn't it also true that:
Lego RB is US$50 + 10 to export.
G. Hero is US$60 +3.5 to export.
...anyway, like M3wThre33, I'm buying the game to play on its own merits. I loves me some Lego.

Past-tense? What the hell happened there?

So, wait... huh? If your GamerTag is banned from XBL, you lose access to your purchases? That can't possibly be legally defensible: I can see them taking away your ability to game online for breaking TOS, and forcibly reducing a GamerTag to Silver status.

However, that would not prevent connection to the Marketplace and its associated purchase history. Unless they obliterate your GamerTag as an entity in their system you are still going to be able to go back and re-download whatever you last paid for.

And so far the export song codes have been usable across multiple 360s, with the initial unit able to play without logging in to XBL, and the other ones acting as child licenses, requiring an active XBL connection.

I got point cards and bought the Queen pack and Abbey Road.

One thing I hate about the Queen pack is that Killer Queen is the more sensible version where the bass and guitar are different instruments.  Fuck that.  GH1 Killer Queen was my favorite song (well, 2nd, now replaced by WMGGW) in all these music games.  And another song is piano guitar going on.  At least be consistent with the dream crushing.  AND IF YOU WOULD DO PIANO GUITAR DO DON'T STOP ME NOW

It's delayed to the 12th on the PS3. Not on Wii ever.
You put the code online, it gives you a code to put into the Lego Rock Band Music store. Disc needed. You do, it asks for $10, and you give it and downloads all 1.2GB. No individual deletion of songs.
In Lego Rock Band, the LRB Export shows up as normal DLC. (So, yes, TWICE, in all)
In RB2, the LRB Export shows up as regular DLC. No special icon.

I haven't played RB2 in a dog's age either, but it's not by choice.

My cracked disc replacement source sputtered and died, so I ordered a replacement from Play-Asia with reasonable break: $5 coupon for anything over US$50, plus a very agreeable exchange rate. It brought it in at only US$10 more than buying it USED at Gamestop.com -- though if I'd used GS.com to ship internationally, Play-Asia looks like an even better deal.

I can't believe that with as much money as I've got wrapped up in DLC for Rock Band, I'm unable to access any of it because of a physical disc. I've even got it installed to HDD. LAME.

Dammit, someone already owns "luddite.com" -- and they're not even using it in a luddite manner.

http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/viacom-rock-band-sales-improving-though-not-as-quickly-as-wed-like
Quote
Harmonix and MTV Games owner Viacom has said sales of the Rock Band franchise are improving - though not at a pace that meets expectations.

Rock Band hit margins at the company's Media Networks group during its third quarter ended September, although Viacom said that it expects the franchise to finally break even or become "slightly profitable" in Q4 if sales are good through Christmas.

"The economics of our Rock Band franchise are improving, though not as quickly as we'd like," admitted Philippe Daumann, CEO of Viacom in a conference call to investors.

The next two months will be crucial for The Beatles: Rock Band in particular, said Viacom, as the company prepares to to pump more marketing dollars into the game during the busy Christmas sales period.

"We had a great launch of The Beatles product," said Daumann, but "obviously at this time of year we await the holiday season to begin as the month of November unfolds. We will start putting in more marketing dollars together with our retail partners behind that product."

"We just have to be cautious given that we are entering, over the next several weeks, a retail season that will depend on how consumers spend their money generally. So we have to be cautious about how it is unfolding. Meanwhile we continue to manage that business with a close eye on inventory levels and with a greater focus on software."

Industry watchers are split on the future of the music genre, with high-price entry points due to bundled hardware meaning most games become profitable at a slower rate than normal videogames.

Poor sales of Rock Band and rival Guitar Hero games were blamed for a lacklustre retail performance during September in the US, and the latest DJ Hero title from Activision – released last week – debuted in the UK charts at 20, after pre-order sales failed to meet expectations.

Does this just mean the money they've spent on everything so far has not yet been covered by what they've sold? In that case the investment in The Beatles Rock Band is probably still the red on its own, and dragging the franchise back a little overall.

Articles on TBRB stated that there was a stupid-huge amount of money paid just to be able to use the catalog -- was it US$10~12M advance just for the rights to use the catalog? And then 6 months of lawyer scrabbling, blah-blah-blah. I understand that it was a legal mess, an expensive property, and required a lot of production cost, let alone whatever they spent on marketing.

But srsly: The franchise is not yet profitable? WTF? How many copies of 1 and 2 were sold? How many tracks have been sold at US$2/pop? Seriously, how can this undertaking be only now approaching profitability over a year after the launch of their sequel?

It's like US$40 for the disc. Just /buy/ it.

And then $10 for the export, yay! Nah, I've already spent $250 on Beatles Rock Band, $30 on the Metal Track Pack, and $80 on DLC just in the past few months. I feel like I deserve to be exempt from this latest and most blatant cash grab, when all I really want is a couple of songs. I'm the king of the cheesy guilty pleasure songs, and I'm going to enjoy rocking out to Ghostbusters, The Final Countdown, Every Little Thing She Does is Magic, You Give Love a Bad Name, and We Are the Champions, but once you get beyond that LRB's setlist starts to get a little stanky. It's not worth $50, at all.

It might have been alright, if I could have pretended that LRB was a true sequel to RB2, but I can't even do that because Harmonix decided to protect the kiddies from the horror of T-rated lyrics (Heavens to Betsy! :o) and made half of my DLC not work. How hard would it have been to include an "Adult Mode"? Forget it, I'm getting what I want out of LRB (the songs) and then going right back to RB2. I'll buy a new game when they decide to release a real game (RB3).
