WHITEOUTMediocre. I wish I'd watched it on blu-ray because it's clearly got a lot of beautiful scenery. The director seemed to be going for an
ALIEN meets Friday the 13th meets generic mystery -- ON ICE. Tom Skerritt (adding to the original Alien feel) was good, Kate Beckinsale was trying too hard. The flashback sequences were predictable and laughably melodramatic. The payoff was pretty good, but many things in review just don't make a lot of sense. B-
GANTZ live action
The dub was weak. I'll see the sequel,
PERFECT ANSWER, in Japanese while it's on the big screen if I can squeeze it in. The translation of the characters to live action was handled surprisingly well, excepting Tae Kojima. The guy playing Nishi was perfect -- just spot-on. The two male leads, it was strange. The guy playing Kei is one of those "idoru tarento" that they push into as many jobs as possible. Right now they are convinced he can act. The guy playing Katoh actually CAN act though, and the disparity is clear. B+
I actually took the DVD out of the machine and threw it out, never done that before or since 

I didn't like it on my first viewing in the theaters, but later on VHS I came to love it. It's one of those things I'm surprised has never been turned into a game. Hm...
