Sleepy Hollow is alright, kinda boring and flat.  It seems like every modern take on legends in the past 20 years.  Convoluted.

Sweeney Todd is lame because I hate most musicals and it screams Hot Topic art design.

Although I guess I'm a hypocrite because Corpse Bride really IS Hot Topic art design.

the thing is the CGI feels like Mirror's Edge.  It's not simply the perspective.

Doom

It would be a decent Aliens ripoff if not for the fact that the movie has no lightning. Literally zero lighting. I think a few scenes may have been lit by a Zippo. Maybe.

Harry Potter and The Deathly Hollows Part 2

Pretty good actually, I can't help but feel though that I would have liked it more if I followed the series before cause from what I know it was a great way to end the story and I feel some of the movie would have had more impact if I had an attachment to the characters from the beginning. I might end up having a Harry Potter marathon at some point so that I would have been able to follow the full story. Going in from watching the first Deathly Hollows, one of the first four movies at my cousins place, and a few scenes when its on tv I was able to understand some of the bigger things though.

A good ending to this generations legacy franchise.

I hated the ending.

I thought the way the book handled that was better. In the book, Snape ended being my favorite character.

Maybe it wasn't as good as I remember it.

I thought they did a pretty phenomenal job with Snape in the film during his memory scenes.  Perhaps it wasn't as constructed as well as in the books, but Rickman's performance during those scenes proved to be his best work in the entire series.  And ultimately, probably the best performance out of the entire cast

what a nerdy ass movie. you can tell the director(s) are just a bunch of nerdy cg animators and somehow got to make a big alien invasion movie. as expected, the movie aspect is pretty awful (characters, dialogue, plot). but the set pieces and action are obviously not bad. the actual design of the aliens is awful too actually. it's just a messy mashup up various alien designs from other (better) movies. The worst thing about it was that most of the time you're just watching the characters watch things happen from a distance. there's a lot of "epic thing is happening over there" and the characters are watching through a window. other times they will try to make you believe something is happening near the characters but they cleverly keep it on the other side of a room and it never actually interacts with the character. a few times it does defy though i will admit but those times are few.

pretty bad movie all told. but i thought the ending was hilarious and i actually liked what they did with it there. so overall i give it 2 stars.

The flashback scene was amazing. I just don't like the idea of the twist in general. The entire series was a back and forth of Snape is actually good. Wait he does something suspect. Oh whew he's good. Like I said, I saw it coming though. Can someone put the difference between the book and movie in spoilers.

There isn't really a difference, to be honest, other than the book obviously has more details about the entire history of Snape.  The movie didn't make it very clear, but Snape was indeed a true Death Eater for a while and was the main informant to Voldemort regarding the prophecy regarding Harry/Neville.  When Snape learned that Voldemort decided to go after Harry (because he, too, was a half-blood and Voldemort considered that a stronger link between the two of them), Snape was distraught and came crawling to Dumbledore with the information.  He requested that the Potters be hidden, and he shared with Dumbledore his true love for Lily.  When their protection ultimately failed, Snape was devastated and completely switched to being a member of the order, his new mission in life simply to protect her son at all costs.  It's what she would have wanted, as Dumbledore said.

Battle Los Angeles

this movie is a wannabe. it tries and tries so hard and wants to be Black Hawk Down with aliens. Sometimes it's successful, most other times it is just a poor copy-cat. a lot of the shootouts just dont have that much of a punch that BHD did. there's also a sense of danger in BHD where you know enemies are all over the place and this small group of soldiers is literally fighting for their lives. in BLA that is definitely the case contextually but you dont really ever feel that. that's probably because they are CGI and due to budgetary reasons they can't be all over the place like actual extras can but it's still a negative. i enjoyed the design and style of the aliens. they have a very mechanical vibe to them. they are obviously more advanced than us but only just so. enough where they are threatening but still vulnerable. especially the air vehicles and the sound they make when the propulsion mechanics are kicking in. reminds me of the big x shaped pod racer in Phantom of the Menace.

it's not aggressively bad or particularly memorable so it sits as being an average action war movie with good special effects. 3/5

Nice troll there PD  :lol

If you're wondering whether I liked it or not, I did. I just wouldn't put it as greatest film of all time contender like a lot of people are.

It's mostly the message and style choices why it's considered as such. I'd say next to Malcolm X it's his best movie.  Spike is very random in terms of quality.

Just because the message is good doesn't make it a good movie. I hate the way it looks like a daytime soap, the acting isn't good, not a fan of the characters, the writing seems to obvious, etc. If I want a clever take on that shit I'll watch The Boondocks

Thank you! A lot of the scenes were unnecessary and to be honest, Radio Raheem attacked Sal and was choking him and everyother person in that neighborhood except for Mookie and Da Mayor weren't being stupid about it. And then attempting to blame the murder on Sal was annoying plus that bugging guy is the same kind of annoying asshole who reminds you of somebody(my younger dumbass brother for example).

When I say I liked it I meant as in a look at things back in the late 80's and how it used racial tensions to add to the buildup. Also this quote bugs me:

Quote
Spike Lee has remarked that he himself has only ever been asked by white viewers whether Mookie did the right thing; black viewers do not ask the question.[17] Lee believes the key point is that Mookie was angry at the death of Radio Raheem, and that viewers who question the riot's justification are implicitly valuing white property over the life of a black man.[15]

STAKE LAND

it's the super serious and SUPER dark version of Zombieland. you got the young-ish boy, the grizzled veteran, and the female love interest. but like i said, it's not funny at all. its dark and grim and pulls no punches. the other difference is that it isn't zombies but "vampires", however the "vampires" act just like zombies pretty much. worth a watch if you're in to a post apocalyptic movie that is completely serious 100% of the time.

Yep. 2/3 Through the movie it felt like the end because I was ready for it to end. The pacing was all out of wack. Also what should have been a montage sequence was a drawn out 15 minute scene.

Zodiac

This is easily the best serial killer movie out there and at the same time probably the best movie based on true events imo. I have this weird obsession with real life serial killer stories and this movie couldn't be more perfect, every official murder is done amazingly and every scene involving potential Zodiac suspects is chilling and creepy. I have read everything I could about the zodiac and this movie exceeded my expectations greatly.

This movie is a mix of Noir, horror and thriller and does all 3 exceptionally. David Fincher's best film by far.

spoiler (click to show/hide)
I've always said Arthur Leigh was the killer, every time I went through the zodiac murders and the evidence going against him I always thought it was him.

I think it's one of Fincher's best films, maybe my favourite of his.  The picnic scene is easily one of the most powerful scenes I've ever seen.  The way it conveys the emotion and trauma of what the people are going through is utterly gobsmacking.

eh, i found it enjoyable enough but at one point it seemed the film became montage after montage with unnecessary characters being added midway through the film with each and every scene becoming more and more ridiculous as it went on. but i'm hyped for the avengers so i guess it did its job.

I've passed it over all this time thinking "Godzilla movie?  Pass".  Then I found out it's a hand-held cam dealie, a genre I'm loving right now.  Chock full of cliche's, but sure enough the handheld camera made it interesting.  The involvement of my current man-crush JJ Abrams clearly made all the difference.

Another hand-held cam movie, actually kept me interested all the way through.  Although the grandma was infuriating.  "Oh aliens are attacking us with their death rays?  Well, we should have some turkey, it's getting cold."

I'm Still Here

I thought it would be a good fly-on-the-wall type movie, and a little funny, but it's not grabbing me.  Got half way through and don't feel like watching the rest.  Impressive that Joaquin kept up his charade all that time.

You should at least catch Malcolm X and 25th Hour before you bail on Spike Lee completely.  Inside Man ain't too bad neither.

+1 For 25th hour and Malcolm x. Never seen inside man.
