300 Sequel Review:
I heard Noah is truly awful and I couldn't convince my Christian significant other to see it. So there was pretty much nothing showing at the theater we were nearby, so we saw 300 so she could have some nice eye candy to look at, and so I could stare at Eva Green. The movie was exactly what I thought it would be, which is a bit disappointing considering I had such low expectations. I definitely preferred the original 300 for it's superior characterizations and fluid storytelling. The 300 sequel (I can't be bothered to look up the actual name) is bloodier, bigger, and even more surreal in its atmosphere. It's definitely a very entertaining movie that seems tailor made for 3D considering the gallons upon gallons of blood splatter that conveniently squirt in front of the screen. Eva Green is probably the best character in the film, She seems so sinister and yet incredibly seductive. She is the one with the most personality, and the best parts of the movie take place with her at center stage. The other characters just lack charisma and the dialogue is quite bland. There's very little lighthearted banter, and not enough focus on the complementary characters, which acts counter-intuitively to the melodrama of the action. Moreover, when these complementary characters die, it becomes hard to feign any semblance of sympathy for them making them just another statistic to add to the film's ridiculously high blood count. The visuals were indeed quite breathtaking at times, and I have a feeling they would have been even more awe-inspiring in 3D, but this still can't make up for the steps back in plot devices and execution. 5/10
