Two separate points we're making here.

There's an obvious connection between toy sales and knowledge in the public eye, especially among the target audience for these characters and movies (kids.)

Just stop.

On the one hand, Snyder's shitty sepia gritfilter "style" of film making is vomit inducing.

On the other, if you have too many bright colors and lightheartedness, you end up with Speed Racer, which is the worst movie ever made.

Solution: nerds should be prevented from spending money.

They're not blowing their wad early on anything.  This is leading up to a Justice League movie where they'll all team up to beat some Darkseid ass, I'd wager.

And what would that look like? Maybe they'll show FIVE cities getting blown the fuck up! ...except it'd look exactly the same as MoS's last fight.

As I said, blowing the wad. There's nowhere "bigger" they can go from MoS's final fight. WB's impatience crippling the stakes for the DCU out of the gate.

The armored Batman reminds me of Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns.

Of course, easy to ride the coat-tails of a respected work than actually try something new.

That's because it's taken from it. The whole first announcement did nothing but refrence that comic.

I liked this post, but I have to disagree one spot, Batman Returns is the best best. I just watched it the other week. Still got it. Wacky 90's Burton stuff in Gotham that Batman is all ignoring as he beats the shit out of it has come around to being a realistic portrayal of Batman from the comics. Thanks Grant Morrison!

The main plot around the three characters is still tight, Keaton is a god, Danny DeVito still eats a fish which made me realize the Penguin is basically an early version of Frank.

Returns has the best Gotham, easily. However the plot is absolute shit-tier with the main villain somehow winning over the people again. :ufup A trope that was already dumb when the Joker did it in the previous movie.

I wouldn't say the Joker "won the people over" so much as he dropped [fake] dollar bills from the sky.

Returns establishes that Max and his family have outsized power in Gotham, the new mayor is weak for a multitude of reasons, and that the city is fucked up enough that people will back the heroic recently discovered to be true urban legend if you plan his appearances well enough. (Also, why they frame Batman...)

Burton understood the perverse mental illness of the Batman mythos. Who watches a super hero movie to have fun and see action when you could be brooding at the sadness?

Also, Batman Returns has the greatest scene in maybe any movie ever. When they show Bruce Wayne just sitting in the dark waiting for the Bat Signal to light up.  :lol

I dunno. Simon Pegg is cool but I can't say I enjoyed most of his stuff without Edgar Wright at the helm.

It looks average to me.
I like Big Nothing, so I like average Simon Pegg films.

Why does it even exist? Was the first movie that popular to warrant a sequel? Was it even a cult hit?

Yes, that was clearly Jeremy Irons, Jesse Eisenberg, and Holly Hunter talking.

I definitely heard Eisenberg. I was iffy about him at first but he should be a good Lex.

Well I'll just sit back as you have an aneurysm over movies with characters called Batman, Superman, and Captain America.

"Oh no they've made Superman dark in the movies. How dare they! Even though comic books are all about putting characters in whatever situation and story possible"

Superman can't be dark! Just like Batman and Daredevil can't be lighthearted!

I also like this notion that only Batman can be dark.

Does anyone not read the current Wonder Woman?

Does no one watch Arrow or know his background as a liberal crimefighter man.

There's more then just Batman who can fit the tone DC has apparently ushered. Also while Superman may not be the best fit, it's not like DC has taken a terrible angle. Much of the DC universe has always focused on the fact that yes Superman in our world is crazy. Even the damn Justice League cartoon had many subplots about metas and the danger of them. It's fantastic that BatmanVsuperman is running with that premise. It's a story that hasn't been done in the movies and it's extremely worthwhile.

I also like this notion that DC only has Batman.

It's like:

Um you people realize The Flash now has a pretty successful television show?

Which was made because of another successful tv show called Arrow?

Which follows the long history of successful DC shows from Smallville to Justice League that featured plenty of DC characters.

No one gave a fuck about the Guraidans of the Galaxy. Now Groot is a household name and little girls want to be Gamora.

You're telling me that can't happen to the Suicide Squad with such stars as Will Smith and the Joker...I mean Jared Leto? That movie has plenty of potential.

No one cared about Thor. You doubt that Wonder Women can't be successful in a world where Thor is? If your entire point for it being successful is the really dumb "oh dude is hot" you don't think Hot chick with violence can't work? That stupid Scarlet Jo brain movie made millions.

No one gave a shit about Captain America and Chris Evans dosen't have that much star power yet the movies have done well. You don't think a good Flash or Green Lantern movie can survive in a world where a meh Captain America and a good Captain America movie did well. Why?

I think a teaser should be pretty evocative and well a tease. That Avengers teaser posted might as well be a trailer. It's not edited or cut in a specific way. Really dosen't give a tone or a feeling. It really does reveal plenty of things. It's not giving you a small glimpse that really makes your mind go "wtf" and try to connect the dots. It's just a simple trailer.

Havok could still become Corsair. I mean hey it would explain where he is during the rest of the series instead of killing him off panel like the rest of the First Class cast.

Still, the movies don't care about the cosmic part of X-men so I doubt they would ever uee them.

Watched Babadook.

Occasionally you are on the wrong side of the opinion on a movie and this one of those cases for me. I can intellectually appreciate what the movie is going for. And there are absolutely elements I like of it, like the pop-up book stuff and the two really good performances of the leads. But deep down you either feel a movie or you don't and for me Babadook is one I can appreciate intellectually but I didn't really "feel" it whatever that means.

I can totally see somebody else feeling it and thinking its great. But for me it was an average movie experience. I think I'm just more meat and potatoes when it comes to my horror. This is like an artsy horror film to a degree and maybe artsy doesn't quite work as strong for me when it comes to that genre.

Babadook took its concept much farther than It Follows did, and is in general the "scarier" film. I love them both though, and would probably say I liked It Follows ever-so-slightly more.
