It’s better than the original thing. It’s not hard to top 6/10.

Here's my major complaint with the movie in comparison to the original. Warning: Benji ahead.
If I ask you "Who's the villain in the original Blade Runner?" you have a hard time coming up with a reply. This is by design, IMO. Everything is very shades of gray. Your first inclination is to say that Roy, Priss, Zahra, and Leon are the villains. They're running around killing people. But they're very analogous to Frankenstein's monster. Even more cruel, they KNOW they're the monster, are smart enough to be aware of it, and know they have a limited lifespan. They just want more life. Yes, their actions are "bad" but potentially justifiable from their standpoint. So they're not cartoonishly evil.
Ok, so then it's Tyrell, right? Dr. Frankenstein himself. Gotta be. Except he comes across more as a curious scientist than evil madman. He sympathizes with his creation. He's trying to break new ground. Yes, he probably should be asking "should I do this" more than simply "CAN I do this" but again- shades of gray.
You can make an argument that even Deckard is the bad guy.
If I ask that question about Blade Runner 2049, the answer is both obvious and boring: "the villains are the guy that gives long stupid speeches about how awesome slavery is and kills his newborn synthetic creation, and his sidekick that gets her nails done while calling in drone strikes." It probably also doesn't help that Jared Leto is a hot garbage fire of an actor and whatever sort of "moral ambiguity" they were going for with Luv or whatever her name was is poorly conveyed to say the least. "Oh she cries sometimes in between overtly evil acts, LOOK AT THE DUALITIES."
It's not a bad movie. It's gorgeous and mostly well acted. It has structural problems, though.
