Adventureland

I think that they're are doing the movie a bit of a dis-service by advertising it as "from the director of Superbad". It was not half as bad as that movie, although I wouldn't really call it good either. The main character was at least likable, and the movie didn't cater to lulz either. But for a semi-serious movie, it was pretty shallow. Jesse Eisenberg plays a neurotic nerd (squid and the whale) pretty well once again

and again I'll post: it baffles me, but whatever.
let it baffle you some more. the point is: i expect you to be smarter than "my beloved nerd thing is getting trolled because it's popular bububu". makes you sound awfully paranoid and insecure. at least you should be able to realize that there's always people who genuinely like or dislike something without any sort of (anti-)fanboy agenda.

I understand you, and I'm okay with that, but I can't put it past some of the people here.

oh and :bow there will be blood :bow2

Agreed.  There Will Be Blood is a fuck awesome movie.

Dead Ringers (rewatch): 8/10

Some say it is Cronenberg's masterpiece, and it very well may be, but I'm not so sure it's an easy slam dunk.

The movie is based off of a true story.  I've read a lot about it, including the book the movie is based on.  I love this movie, but I can't help feel that the story was creepy, gross, and haunting enough to have  not needed the very obvious elements Cronenberg added.  While I do not think Cronenberg's additions detracted from the very very emotional impact of the story, I don't think they really added anything other than a pile of question marks. It's kind of a shame considering Cronenberg does his best job of getting good performances out of the actors and actresses involved here.

Still, a captivating pic made all the more chilling by it being true.

Cronenberg makes some of the most unbearable shit ever. I really did enjoy Eastern Promises, though (and Naked Lunch to a lesser degree).

I can understand why some might not like Ang Lee's hulk but I personally loved it. It just took an approach to a Hulk movie that most people probably weren't expecting and they confused that with the movie being bad.

I really disliked the constant comic book frames visual style, I didn't care for the story and was hoping for some more action.

My brother loves it though, it will probably tear the family apart.

well at least i can't blame you for disliking it if what you wanted/expected was "more action"

The only action I remember was fighting the dogs, which I found disappointing. Maybe I was hoping for better action?

The problem with my opinions (on films) is that I rarely remember my reasons for them.
I just remember my gut feeling, I'm not cut out for message board discussions. :'(

Ang Lee's Hulk sucks, there is no people confusing it with bad or anything, the story is stupid and boring, the characters are even more boring, the action is lol and the hulk looks like a distinguished mentally-challenged fellow on steroids, the only good thing about that movie was Connelly :drool.

It's better than a big dumb Hulk action movie - which is what people wanted - but still pretty weak. Or maybe I'm still upset I took a bunch of kids to see it, who kept loudly asking "where's the Hulk? Is the Hulk in this movie?" for like an hour

The only interesting thing about it: the editing. The action blows, I couldn't take the writing seriously, the Banner backstory was over analyzed to the point of boredom. The villain was a joke, and fit into the whole "yawn Bruce Banner backstory" thing.

Both Hulk movies weren't very good.

and I can see people preferring the old Hulk CG since it was actually based on Bana and ment to be a more realistic depiction of the change.  New Hulk was just based on the comic book Hulk.

I just thought the Nick Nolte story in Ang Lee's Hulk was dreadful.  And like someone else said, the comic style editing was inconsistent.  Shit movie.

But the Ed Norton one was also shit.  Horrible acting and a story where I don't give two shits about.

I thought both Hulk movies were fine for different reasons.  Ang's had GREAT comic book style and the main guy was full of win.  The latter Hulk had good action and really just suffered from a lame final battle.

Neither movie is top-tier comic book stuff, but neither were awful either.

Slumdog Millionaire

The basic structure of the movie is something that has been done tons of times (boy meets girl, loses girl, then goes on a long ass life journey to find himself before ultimately finding girl again) yet I never felt like I had seen this before. IMO this is just a fuck awesome movie, beautiful on every level. The camera work is great, the music is great, the visuals are stunning, etc etc. It certainly wasn't what I expected - I mean, this is a pretty dark movie. It's not just a simple boy gets girl sentimental farce. I loved just about everything in the movie, something that rarely happens for me

There's lots of energy and excitement during the early scenes showing the kids grow up, and that spirit really caries throughout the movie imo. Plus omg....the girl is so fucking hot. Like, omg. No pedo but I also thought the tween version of her was hot too.

I'm a fan of the first two Transporter films but Transporter 3 is garbage. It has like... 2 fight scenes, only one of which being good, and 1 shitty chase scene. Terrible movie.

I watched Fast and Furious earlier and I already mentioned in the thread that I liked it.

I watched Ong Bak 2 after and liked it up until the ending. I mean the ending ending, not the ending fight scene. All the fight scenes were great. The actual ending was stupid as hell.

Repo The Genetic Opera

Really liked this one.  Up until the finale I thought it was one of the best film musicals I'd seen, but the finale was a little weak instead of being omg awesome so that brings it down a notch.  Still, reminded me of good horror musicals like Nightmare Before Xmas and not meh ones like Sweeny Todd.  Definitely would recommend if you like singing and the haunted mansion.

Yeah it felt that way. What I liked most about it was well just how non-political it was. Stone really didn't pass judgement on Bush as harshly as one would expect, in many ways he was a sympathetic character.

I still like Ang Lee's Hulk. I just don't think it was something easily watchable for an action movie public. I enjoyed the pacing tone set to the slow build up of anger, the comic book edits and Bana/Connelly.

I watched Slumdog and Timecrimes, which I both enjoyed. I wasn't floored by Slumdog though and Timecrimes relied on the dumb character clutch of horror flicks a bit. Highlights: Shit diving and titties.

New Calvinism? Did some quick googling/wikipedia'ing and it sounds like the same old stuff to me.
http://solapanel.org/article/driscolls_new_calvinism/

Sounds more like a new PR job than anything real. Faith has a calming effect on many people; they feel safe and cared for by a higher power, etc whatever. Dunno how that applies to Calvinists when they have no way of truly knowing whether they're saved or were damned to hell long before birth. But then again, isn't that what faith truly is? hmm

Calvinists are the most annoying people I've ever argued with, witnessed debates with, etc

(btw I turned my christian card in awhile ago)

Once

You know, i sorta liked it, sorta loved it, sorta was bored by it. It's a very charming flick, but sometimes the whole thing feels like one long videoclip. One of the problems of the flick is, well, the music itself, ironically enough. While i do love the main song, i didn't care for most of the songs, and sometimes i found myself actually wanting to fast forward because i was actually being bothered by the song in question.

Overall, i liked it, but i don't agree with the glowing reviews.

It really is a visual treat, but if fails in nearly ever other aspect as a film, in my opinion.

I finally saw Crash. The part where Thandie Newton was getting felt up was the best scene in the movie.

Crank: High Voltage

A movie with a clear central thesis of, "Hey, fuck you realism!"  As it goes on about its business of increasingly more outrageous acts of violence and puerile humor, and that's not a bad thing at all.  Its a tough film to review because that would require taking it seriously, of which seems kinda futile.  But there's lots of fun bits in it and laugh out loud moments.  I quite liked it, your mileage may vary.
