Batman: Under the Red Hood
The latest Batman animated movie, created almost entirely by a crew with minimal experience and with voice actors new to the Batman universe, somehow manages to be very evocative of the best of Batman: TAS only with a bigger budget and a more modern look. It basically does just about everything write, from the writing to the story to the action to the animation. Despite the trailer making the animation look stiff and a bit cheap, it's very fluid in action and many scenes just flat out look really good [on top of being well put together]. The characters sometimes look a bit flat and there are some designs that clash a bit with the overall look [which is more in line with TAS than anything since]. One of the few problems I have is that the movie, which isn't particularly long, crams in quite a lot of Batman universe characters, although it does handle them all surprisingly well. What really elevates the movie is this: the story works. It's grittier and darker than most, but it also combines it with a tragic twist and some raw emotion. They don't go completely over the top and splash blood everywhere, but it's not PG-13 for nothing. Basically, it's really good. Anyone that loved Batman: TAS and Batman Beyond will love this too.
Also, John Di Maggio is pretty amazing as The Joker.
