The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

it was ok-ish.  Apparently there are two more that aren't on netflix, so I don't know if or when I'll watch them.  I read there is an American version coming too, which is nice because if Americans specialize in one thing, it's male sodomy.

Boring X-Men characters. :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\

Pretty much, although Hellfire Club could be really cool. Can't First Class just retcon the other movies out of existence and go with the original team of Cyclops, Marvel Girl, Iceman, Beast and Angel?

Cameron Diaz seemed cool in Top Gear.  It was super awkward because it was her and Tom Cruise and Jeremy (the host) just kept ogling her.

Cameron seems nice, and she treats her fame and success as though she is really lucky as opposed to it being a matter-of-course. I think she continues to get work because she continues to sell reasonably and still behaves like a normal human. She's pretty popular in Japan too, fwiw.

Triangle
Hey, this was pretty darn good!  Thoroughly entertaining and I felt everything was sufficiently explained by the end but still left a bit to think about.  I really liked the look of the film too despite the poor CG and the bit when the storm hit.

Laputa
Wow, amazing.  Definitely up there with my other faves Spirited Away and Howl's.

Into the Blue
I expected the worst, but actually quite enjoyed it.  Not a fan of Jessica Alba but Paul Walker's dreamy blue eyes saved the film.

The Fourth Kind
I think this is the only film that has ever made me physically jump in my seat.  And it did it twice.  Goddamn.

Dark City
Good fun, I can see why it has the cult sci-fi following.

Until about a month ago, I'd only seen one of the Indiana Jones movies. The one with Sean Connery. So a month ago I watched Raiders of the Lost Ark. Enjoyable flick. Ending is a bit bullshit but overall holds up pretty well for a new watcher.

I saw Temple of Doom last night and holy hell that was a big step down. Too much weak action. None of it made much sense. Really contrived. Borderline racist at worst. Highly stereotypical at best.

I'm now curious to see that recent Indiana Jones movie because I read about all the hate it got but I find it hard to believe it could be worse than Temple of Doom. I'll probably get around to it this weekend.

Temple of Doom has it's good points, but I'd say it's a bit of wash between it and Crystal Skull.

Lost Ark and Last Crusade are really the only ones worth watching more than once or twice.

yeah, Temple of Doom isn't good.  It's one of those things where when people say the new movie raped their childhood or some shit, you have to question if they ever saw Temple of Doom.  Same with Return of the Jedi and Die Hard 2.

Well, Die Hard 2 wasn't that bad.  For an action movie it was alright, it just had nothing on Die Hard 1 or 3.

Batman: Under the Red Hood

The latest Batman animated movie, created almost entirely by a crew with minimal experience and with voice actors new to the Batman universe, somehow manages to be very evocative of the best of Batman: TAS only with a bigger budget and a more modern look. It basically does just about everything write, from the writing to the story to the action to the animation. Despite the trailer making the animation look stiff and a bit cheap, it's very fluid in action and many scenes just flat out look really good [on top of being well put together]. The characters sometimes look a bit flat and there are some designs that clash a bit with the overall look [which is more in line with TAS than anything since]. One of the few problems I have is that the movie, which isn't particularly long, crams in quite a lot of Batman universe characters, although it does handle them all surprisingly well. What really elevates the movie is this: the story works. It's grittier and darker than most, but it also combines it with a tragic twist and some raw emotion. They don't go completely over the top and splash blood everywhere, but it's not PG-13 for nothing. Basically, it's really good. Anyone that loved Batman: TAS and Batman Beyond will love this too.

Also, John Di Maggio is pretty amazing as The Joker.

watched Yoo-Hoo, Mrs. Goldberg a documentary about an all but forgotten TV and radio star.  She was the creator of the first sitcom and essentially brought new york jewish immigrant culture into the living rooms of America.  it was interesting but i couldn't see the "com" portion of "sitcom" in the clips they showed.  It was very informative if a bit of a hagiography.  Could have used less talking heads talking about how omgawesomez she was and a bit more factual statements.

I was particularly interested in the red scare portions forcing her to lose her "husband" on the series but they didn't really give enough info.

I'm home today (and probably tomorrow) with a fucked up back which is excruciating but since I'm just lying on my back I decided to watch Last Crusade since I've only seen it once like when it originally came out. It holds up astoundingly well. Really great movie. I would argue as an all around flick its superior to the original. So since I have nothing to do I'm gonna watch the new also now.

i was happier when i thought it was just going to be some comedy shit about a dorky kid trying to be a superhero.  hit girl and big daddy just annoyed me outside of a few scenes.  i guess it was an expectations thing since i literally knew nothing about the movie going in.  i'll still grab it on blu ray eventually and maybe now that those expectations are gone i'll enjoy it more but until then i stand by my original statement.

Last Crusade tends more towards comedy than the original, which isn't necessarily BAD but the Crystal Skull probably took that a bit too far and it just made the whole thing a bit goofy. Last Crusade is a bit better at balancing seriousness and humor, and the interactions between Harrison Ford and Sean Connery are just so good.

Himumumumu:  Watch all of them.  I think they're all enjoyable but I believe they move way too fast (you'll see when you watch it) and the pace is especially problematic in season 2.  season 2 is like dexter on steroids.  season 3 starts off very meh and ends pretty damn good.  but i heard 4 is the shit.  i haven't watched it yet.  but i personally think they're all worth watching.

2 sucks, I'm sorry.  What is fairly interesting in the first season becomes a fairly dumb police procedural in the second season, with some extra relation drama to make it extra stupid.  OMG the hunter becomes the hunted how is this all going to end is fucking bad.  there's no real tension, or mystery to the whole thing, and Dexter's adversaries are lame.  Season 3 is only slightly better, but again, no real mystery to it.

spoiler (click to show/hide)
Season 4 gets back to the meat and potatoes.  Dexter hunting a serial killer!  Should have been every season, you morons.
[close]
i always thought the scenario for season 2 should ya know, be the scenario for the last fucking season.  and from there i knew they'd repeat that formula shortly.  but it's always been other little things that kept me interested in the series.

yeah the trailers really didn't make it seem that way but i don't really mind the style to be honest.  it's got 70% on RT and seems like everyone agrees the middle is some good shit while the end is craptastic.  i can deal with that.
