watched Birdemic. So fucking good. The actress was pretty hot and I popped a boner when she was in her underpants.

After that I googled "worst movies of the 90's" to inspire further viewing. Kazaam starring Shaq came up. I realised I had always wanted to see this film but never got around to it. It's real intense, Shaq yells all the time in fucked up rhymes and the main kid is fucking disgusting. Very enjoyable though

That's the worst cgi I've ever seen in a blockbuster film circa 2008-2011

not gonna lie, I have a weird quasi-man crush on Reynolds, but yeah, that CGI looks gawdawful...

Yeah, definitely. It feels like something that grew directly from the cynicism towards the government in the late 80's and LA riots in '93. And it's got the same kind of punkish feel of other 90's scifi movies like Hackers and Johnny Mnemonic. It folds in the final stretch, but is otherwise is surprisingly decent scifi movie.

so the news is a little old, but I promise its not an April Fools joke.  It's fallout over Sherlock Holmes making a shitload of money, so it makes sense, kinda.

Quote from: huh?
jennifer-garner-will-play-miss-marple-in-a-new-disney-reboot/Disney is bringing Agatha Christie’s venerable detective Miss Marple back to the big screen, but this won’t be your father’s — or your grandfather’s — Miss Marple. EW has confirmed that, as first reported on Deadline, Jennifer Garner will play the amateur sleuth in a new take on the character.

to be fair, Jennifer Garner will be at least 40 by the time the movie comes out, in Hollywood terms, she might as well be a spinster.  I wonder if she'll have a short, slightly prim but devilishly handsome Belgian dude as her sidekick?

The stuff in space and on Oa looks cool.  But everything that takes place on Earth (after he becomes a green lantern) looks like stupid comic book movie stuff.  He returns to Earth and punches a homeless guy, saves that chick, a random kid (so other kids can dream about being saved by Hal) and finally realizes his potential as a hero.  It's the same thing as Batman Begin's and Iron Man's ending.

Should have made a Green Lantern Corp movie instead, with Guy Gardner fighting aliens and pimp slapping the Guardians and being a dick.

watched Kid in King Arthur's Court last night. Solid kids adventure flick with some neat surprises. Theres some WTF moments with the script though :lol

Theres a scene where the present day kid is making some food for the teenage princess babe. She's like "what is this?", and he's like "double cheeseburger with lettuce and tomato on a wheatmeal bun....... uh,.... Big Mac."

Last time I checked that is not the composition of a Big Mac.

A fairly by the book feel good movie.  But it's really well made at least.  Everyone brings their A game to it and there are some genuinely hilarious moments.  My favorite thing about it?  Most of it is really light hearted.  Paul Giamatti is hilarious and nails his role.

Waiting
I've seen this movie a few times before and I'm still in love with Vanessa Lengies.

Watching Mimic. Man, what an uneven movie.  Although it could have been a great B movie, there are many issues.  Del Toro complained about studio interference, but it seems like a weak script relying on a single good plot device.  I can tell what he was going for, but it has far too many shortcomings.  Easily the worst Del Toro movie I've seen.  It rides the line between mainstream monster movie and cheesy B horror and it doesn't do a good job of balancing it at all.  So disappointing.  The opening is really awesome and sets up a great premise.  An epidemic is sweeping Manhattan island carried by the common roach.  A biologist creates a natural predator to kill all the roaches and it's supposed to be sterile and die after 180 days, but it doesn't and it evolves.  Yeah, it's pretty much downhill after that.

hahaha  yeah, that part made me laugh.  I'll probably still buy it since I'm on a mission to own all Del Toro's movies since they're all pretty awesome and I love his style.  I've seen them all now and Mimic is the shittiest movie he's made for sure.  If I buy Mimic and Blade 2 I'll own all of his major movies (not the shorts obviously).  so fuck it.  Imma buy them.

I'm not much of a list person but since I've finished all his stuff, here's how I'll rank them..

Pan's Labyrinth
The Devil's Backbone
Hellboy
Cronos
Hellboy 2
Blade 2
Mimic

Homeboy needs to seriously get back to directing.  He hasn't directed since 2008.  Fucking hell.

definitely this.  But didn't the studio pretty much say they had no interest in doing a third?  And Del Toro seems to have completely moved on (although he can't figure out what the fuck he wants to do either).

is that really what passes for a fight scene in a hundred million dollar movie these days.

i think that i'll have a better time this year watching movies if i just skip every single 'blockbuster' being hyped up for the summer. everything looks like it'll either be very underwhelming or pure trash.

I think the point being made is that thor is not well suited to 3d due to, as can be seen in the clip, dimly lit scenes and a short average shot length. It was not shot with 3d in mind, and therefore the 3d 'experience' will only worsen how dim and disorienting the movie is.

I still havent seen Anitchrist. My mum recommended it to me so I'll get around to seeing it someday.

I remember she took me to see Zentropa by the same director when I was 6. Shit blew my mind. I remembered it being in english and she told me it was actually subtitled? Pretty crazy that I comprehended a foreign film at that age. I guess I'm actually really smart or something.

Anyways, I couldnt find First Kid online, but I downloaded 3 Ninjas Knuckle Up and 3 Ninjas High Noon at Mega Mountain (starring Hulk Hogan). I've been wanting to see both of these films for ages becuase I love the first two 3 Ninjas films.

Watch Antichrist, one of the best horror films of the last decade, hands down. Von Trier was suffering from severe depression when he made it and it shows. One of those great pieces of art that can only be created in exceptional circumstances.

The Good, The Bad and The Ugly
So awesome of course.  A man's movie.  Blondie is the best.  Tuco is a lil bitch.  Angel Eyes is a cool motherfucker.

Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room
Ugh.  Disgusting.  Especially since I have a few friends who worked there at the time and lost everything because of those assholes.

God Grew Tired of Us
Amazing documentary about some Sudanese men who come to the US.  Really great film.  It's awesome watching them experience Western culture and civilization for the first time and it's amazing seeing how much drive these guys have.  They start their lives here 20 years later than our own people and all of them manage to accomplish more than our average citizen in 3 short years.  Fucking crazy.

Waste Land
Documentary about a brazilian artist and his project at one of Rio's landfills with the people who work there.  I don't really care much for modern art, but he did make some amazing pieces from this and it's really cool seeing it come together.

Hereafter
Some really great scenes, but an overall seemingly pointless movie.  Felt nothing after it was over.

Cronos - loved the angle on zombie/vampirism and the issue of excess life given a individual and personal play

Lady Jane - 20 year old Helena Bonham Carter shows her breasts and the movie is kind of slow and drags and I did not finish it!

Pillars of the Earth - I suppose this belongs as a television mini-series, but the length of each is quite long. I really liked it and it fed into my current obsession with medieval and early Christianity political intrigue.

Ya know, rewatching Watchmen, I think I have been way too judgmental on the movie.  It may not have been what Watchmen nerds wanted or what a summer blockbuster should be.  But I do believe it's unique and fairly well made.  I especially love how it condenses the basics of the series together and makes it way more film-friendly.  Outside of Dawn of the Dead, it's probably my favorite Snyder film.  I can definitely understand complaints, but it's probably the best I could hope for regarding a major studios handling of Watchmen and it's enjoyable.

Well there are so many good ones to choose from!

Haha.  True.  And I haven't even seen sucker punch.

And I haven't seen Dawn of the Dead in a while but last time I saw it I didn't care too much (used to think it was awesome).  Maybe it was just my mood.  300 is entertaining if you wait long enough to forget what happens and you have patience to sit through all the slo-mo.  And the owls movie was surprisingly good even though the content isn't exactly my cup of tea.

In the end, I think people just hate how his style hasn't changed much and how it's been copied and pimped to death since 300.  But I think he's actually a pretty decent director when he's not over indulging in his slo mo and style.

Not even.  But its still pretty damn wacky.  Craven's best work in the WTF-horror genre is always gonna be The People Under the Stairs.
