how weird was it seeing John Hurt as an actual young man, and still recognizing in him the signs of the magnificent codger he would turn out to be?

great damn movie.

Really weird. He had a few minutes of screen-time before I realised, 'Oh wow, that's John Hurt!' I'm not used to seeing him so young!

It's one of my favorite Korean movies [the Japanese remake, a musical, is pretty good too], just so weird and fun.

Nothing like that.  I just got over the appeal of shock endings and weird quirky shit.  That was the only reason I ever liked it.  I can't stand the pacing or the way the dialogue is written.  It just irks me.

i have to admit. it looks good.

Oh, I was expecting a Twilight/Riding Hood ripoff, but it's actually epic fantasy instead. Hmm...could be good, although Kristen Stewart and Chris Hemsworth aren't exactly acting giants. Charlize Theron, however...

Also, the music in that trailer is AMAZINGLY similar to Mind Heist from Inception. Like, somebody gonna get sued.

I watched Tokyo! last night, because I saw it in Joon-ho Bong's list on imdb (the guy who made Memories of Murder, Mother, and The Host). It's basically three short stories thrown into one movie: one story about a girl who feels useless, one about a guy who lives in a sewer and speaks some distinguished mentally-challenged fellow language that only he and his lawyer can understand, and another story about a hikikomori (the one Joon-ho Bong directed). The movie sucked though. The first story was okay; nothing special, but entertaining enough. The second story with the sewer guy was bad. It starts out well enough, but after he gets arrested it starts moving painfully slow and I had lost all interest by the time it ended.  The hikikomori story, again, starts out well enough, but the ending was kinda pointless. So all in all, it was a waste of time.

Captain America - Was ok.  The first 45 mins were solid, then the first Captain America parts were great in a campy what-if alternate history way.  But the last hour was kind of generiiiic total.  Final fight sucked.  I'm a little confused about the timeline for marvel movies:
spoiler (click to show/hide)
So this magic power box is recovered by Stark and then I assume he used it to make the energy source for the Iron Man suit, but if I'm remembering correctly, in the post-credits of Thor, which is modern time, they recover the magic box.  But how did they recover it if Stark had it the whole time?  Maybe I'm just not remember this Thor scene clearly.  I'm guessing this is all important for setting up The Avengers since it's one of the few major continuity pieces between marvel films.
[close]

Immortals - Great costumes and sets as expected from the guy who did The Fall and The Cell.  Story is super light, but if you expect that you won't be disappointed.  Action is so-so.  The worst part is some of the dialogue and acting (Mickey Rourke is not a particularly good actor these days).  But the gods are handled well and I like how they made Zeus a beautiful man in his prime instead of this old bearded father dude you see in most interpretations.  Makes more sense that if they were immortal gods they'd want to remain immortal at the time they looked their best.

I'm pretty sure he fucks ALL of the girls who come with him on the USO tour, but he doesn't enjoy it.

he was still awkward when dealing with the horny desk broad.  I think he was a virgin.

Saw Harold and Kumar 3.  I loved the first one, hated the second, and liked the third.  It is definitely a movie that should be watched in 3D.  I thought it was a good movie and to be honest, it should probably end here.  I know there were some hints dropped about a fourth but nah, I think the series went about as far as it could go without being Police Academy or American Pie in terms of comedy franchises that just don't know when to give up.

Trollhunter

Was really boring.  Everyone always tells me stuff like Blair Witch or Paranormal Activity are boring and I don't get it at all.  Now I do!  I think the difference is that those films are horror and have freaky unsettling atmosphere which was enough to keep it interesting.  Trollhunter is not trying to be scary, it's not trying to be too funny, it's just kind of goofy, but not goofy enough and I was bored outside a few of the scenes.

Watched Tell Me Something last night. The ending was kinda :wtf at first, but actually, they dropped lots of hints throughout the movie and left it up to the viewer to make sense of everything. So you need to either watch it twice to fully understand everything, or you need to go online and read about the clues that you most definitely missed the first time through (I chose the latter). I was kinda meh toward the movie after I finished watching it, but I actually like it quite a bit now.

Saw the live-action Æon Flux, after having put it back on the rental shelf several times. It's not great, but it's a lot better than I was expecting it to be. The filmmakers tried too hard to have everything make sense, which isn't particularly true to the theme. It was a fun way to spend lunch, though.
