All IMAX showings are sold out Friday and Saturday in Houston.  Half of Sunday is already sold out.  Showings are pretty much 24 hours a day all weekend.  The first showings start at 4am and the last are around 1am.  And in 2D there are showings every 30 minutes or so 24 hours a day.

Thats exactly why I laugh. I loved Jumanji, even loved the less than stellar animated series. I DONT want a reboot, I want a continuation where they just find the board game after the last owners dumped it. I don't want a retelling.

How can you reboot something that isn't even a franchise? If it's just one movie I think the correct term is remake.

Watched Immortals last night since it's on netflix streaming now. I thought it was horrible outside of the main dude. The story didn't seem to make any sense, the actions of the gods didn't seem reasonable, the bad guy sucked

i wouldn't have minded all the negatives if at least the action was good. but it was barely there and mostly boring. more 300 less talking

I'd go for 'incarcerated terrorist' myself but yeah, soldier is very much the term his supporters would use. I've heard it's great from multiple sources so will probably check it out one of these days.

Ireland was occupied by the English.

This dude was in the Irish Republican Army.

I think the preferred term is soldier, or freedom fighter.

Or was George Washington a terrorist as well?

i've seen the teasers, but i'm not watching this. it looks excellent, though, judging from the trailers.

it's pretty cool that it's, apparently, similar to the story of hubbard and scientology. it's a fascinating, hilarious cult.

in other news:

Quote
According to my source at FilmNation, the possibility of any trailer or related publicity material coming out in the fall of 2012 is still vague, possibly unlikely. At the most we may finally see a release date.

The film still does not have a U.S. distributor which seems to be holding up a release date of the now-completed film. Possibly, the difficulties of The Tree of Life and its polarizing effect on the box office may be an underlying issue.

When asked for any kind of teaser image or information, I was told that there still is nothing in the public domain that they could release.

I would not expect to see To the Wonder until 2013. This poses another potential problem, since Knight of Cups is also headed by FilmNation, it is also likely that the marketing concern of "too much of a good thing" would push that film well into 2014 (Malick's lengthy post-production notwithstanding). But that's just conjecture . . . I bet you would never see the day when there was too much Terrence Malick for the market to handle!

Thomas Jane returns as The Punisher... in a short film.

NSFW

I watched Punisher: Warzone last night, and was struck by how much of a gay couple Castle and Microchip are. Quite overtly brave for a Marvel IP to wear its pink heart on its sleeve. Although tbh the trauma of witnessing your wife and children gunned down in front of you would probably turn must people gay.

halfway mark of the year, so there's semi-detailed Chinese box office #'s available.  Which for China they rarely are, also of note, China only allows commercial theatrical exhibition of 20-non Chinese films per year, so these ten films listed should be about all of the movies featuring whiteys put out in China so far this year.

TOP 10 NON-CHINESE FILMS 2012 (to 30 June 2012)

    Titanic (1997) (RMB934.0 million, $146 million)
Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol (RMB679.2 million, $106 million)
The Avengers (RMB564.8 million, $88.5 million)
Men In Black 3 (RMB496.2 million, $77.8 million)
Journey 2: The Mysterious Island (RMB387.8 million, $60.8 million)
    Battleship (RMB306.4 million, $48.0 million)
John Carter (RMB264.4 million, $41.4 million)
Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows (RMB186.8 million, $29.3 million)
    Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted (RMB175.1 million, $27.4 million)
Wrath of the Titans (RMB160.1 million, $25.1 million)

TOP 10 CHINESE FILMS 2012 (to 8 July 2012) [* still on release]

Painted Skin: The Resurrection (RMB516.6 million, US$81.0 million) *
The Great Magician (RMB173.8 million, US$27.2 million)
Mission Incredible: Adventures On The Dragon's Trail (RMB165.4 million, US$25.9 million)
Guns and Roses (RMB151.0 million, US$23.7 million)
    Love (RMB136.6 million, US$21.4 million)
The Viral Factor (RMB129.4 million, US$20.3 million)
    I Do (RMB85.32 million, US$13.4 million)
Black & White Episode I: The Dawn of Assault (RMB85.18 million, US$13.3 million) *
    All's Well, End's Well 2012 (RMB84.44 million, US$13.2 million)
Love in the Buff (RMB70.79 million, US$11.1 million)

box office returns in China are up 42% over last year.  Making China the 2nd largest and easily the most rapidly expanding film market in the world.

I liked 300 but I have a feeling this will be a disaster. Superman is obviously popular, but not as much as Batman, Spider Man, Iron Man, etc. A good Superman film would certainly do well but unlike other heroes, I don't think there's away breathing room for an average to bad film - this will bomb.

I love the Superman music, but fuck the Superman music.  After Singer's shitpile, the last thing we need is more Donner Superman fanfiction.

Too bad it's Snyder, though.  Literally zero chance of it being good.

Yup. :(

Wish someone good was directing it. Really wish DC had their stuff together in the movies.

But their games and animated shows and movies and comics are pretty good, so overall I let it slide a bit.

The Amazing Spiderman

Did a mid-week evening at the movies and saw this.  It was actually pretty good!  I liked it more than the 3 Raimi Spidermans.  Raimi Spiderman was enjoyable but it always felt off.  I disliked his picks for most of the actors and the movies always felt too cheesy and ridiculous.  I thought this one worked better because of two things: The script & The actors.  The script was intelligent for a superhero movie.  Everything felt fairly realistic, flowed well, and the lines were good without being cheesy.  And then the actors were GREAT.  Garfield is THE BEST PETER PARKER EVER.  He's so perfect for the role.  Makes the Toby Maguire spiderman look even dumber.  Emma Stone was great and the guy who played Dr. Conners did a very good job as well.  Because this trio gave good performances and good delivery of a non-stupid script, the movie was good!

Also, like I'm noticing in a lot of superhero origin movies, the first half origin story is notably better than the 2nd half VS. VILLAIN story.  I think in this case it was especially noticeable because Garfield did such a great Peter Parker that was really fun watching him discover his powers and learn to use them as Spiderman.  He definitely makes a better Peter Parker than Spiderman.  Spiderman still needs a bit more wise cracking in his movies.

But overall, nice movie.  I think I will enjoy the next ones with this cast as long as the scripts are good.

???

ASM had the most wise cracking spider-man on film to date. I think it's the opposite: better Spider-Man than Peter. Playing games in the sewer while waiting for the Lizard is totally something Spider-Man would do.

REC2 happens directly after the first. It's about a spanish swat team who goes into the building after the events of the first movie and also follows a group of kids who snuck into the building right before the end of the first movie.

Just proving a point that Lana Wachowski has always been a lazy piece of shit, he can't even take being a woman seriously and commit to it. I've seen better pre hormone traps in my day, he's just lazy.

Movie looks awesome I've never heard of the book so I might have to check it out. I love genre benders, or things that don't conform to the rules were used to. The visuals look fantastic and it looks like a departure from the norm. I'm concerned with the length of the movie someone says the rough cut is nearly 7 hours long.
