Just proving a point that Lana Wachowski has always been a lazy piece of shit, he can't even take being a woman seriously and commit to it. I've seen better pre hormone traps in my dad, he's just lazy.

I watched Dark Water (the original, not the western remake). I was enjoying it up until the final twenty minutes or so. I just don't like horror movies that
spoiler (click to show/hide)
actually involve supernatural stuff, like ghosts and such. I greatly prefer it when they try and provide a logical explanation for everything that's been happening. I thought this movie was heading in that direction, since the mother needed psychiatric help in the past, and she was under a lot of stress from the divorce and everything... But as it turns out, she was actually being haunted by a killer ghost LOL.

Meh. I wish they would make more horror movies like

A Tale of Two Sisters. Tell Me Something and Strange Circus were pretty good too.

Dark Water was enjoyable except for the very end for me as well. I enjoyed the psychology and suspense throughout the film, but the decision made at the very end just didn't make any sense to me.

There was no guarantee that sacrificing herself would save her child, and as a parent it seems impossible to think about leaving one's child behind, vulnerable in a world with this type of creature still existing in it. I guess it's possible she felt attending to the ghost as a new mother would be enough to satisfy it, but it just doesn't seem like a thing which can be satiated.

A movie I really liked has been added to Netflix streaming

http://movies.netflix.com/Movie/Absentia/70204765?country=1&rdirfdc=true

Added, thanks.

Watched this the other day. I really enjoyed it. The cast was mostly very normal looking people. My only complaint about the acting was the younger sister is not a very believable jogger. (She was kinda hot though.) The suspense and limited FX made the whole scenario surprisingly believable. Good ending, too.

watched Roger Corman's opportunistically timed Carnosaur last night, its a movie where a T-Rex gets disemboweled by a bulldozer and women give birth to gosh-dam-live-raptors and its still blows chunks.

Also I'm going to get drunk and watch The Raven tonight.
I'd avoid The Raven if you have spartan free time. It's pretty shit, but the main girl has great jugs, and lol at the ammount of Brits trying and fail at merican accents. The doctor in particular is amazing.

Probably a 4, but I'll give it a 4.5.

Yeah, it was crap. And there's not really an interesting path they can take it, now that they're in "bat's out of the bag" territory.

Crazy Stone - This is a GREAT little film about 3 groups of people trying to get an expensive jade stone.  This is the first film from the director of Guns and Roses which I watched last week.  Unlike GnR, this is a tiny budgeted film shot on video with an all amateur cast and it's still quite good.  Worth a watch for sure.  He did a follow up called Crazy Racer which I have to see as well

Death Becomes Her - Really loved it.  Hadn't seen it since it was in theaters, so i was surprised with how much I remembered from then, but this is a fun little screw ball comedy with Goldie Hawn and Meryl Streep chewing up the scenery like nobody's business.  Was great to see Bruce Willis in a comedy.

So much of this trailer didn't make it into the film itself so I'm really curious about the cut scenes

Crazy Racer is fugging great.  Its like the Chinese equivalent of a Guy Ritchie comedy, only better then he's made them since Snatch or so.

oddly enough I've got Crazy Stone (on DVD) sitting on my living room table right now and was planning to watch this weekend.

yes. it's so devoid of any style or originality. every scene is just the most basic boilerplate answer to the question of "how do we do this scene?"

I'm not gonna say Underworlds is a classic series or anything but the first two at least had a style to them and the action was fun. Underworld 2 is my favorite. It's so hard hitting and brutal in it's action sequences. The 3rd just feels fake with ultra clean and sharp image quality that doesnt match the tone. it's terribad.

I re-watched Batman Begins and TDK today. BB is about as good as I remembered. TDK favored better on this viewing mostly because I hadn't seen it in a while. I still feel the last act of the movie is much weaker than everything before it.

Watched Full Contact. I loved it despite the absolutely atrocious quality of whatever rip Netflix is streaming. Some really great scenes and Chow Yun Fat is somewhere near his awesomest. The guitar solo filled soundtrack was great too.

as a Ringo Lam fan/apologist I can't let any love for Full Contact go unrequited.  Its so magnificently 80's-Cool, but wonderfully so, and its easily the bleakest version of Point Blank, more so then the original, and way more so then Mel Gibson's Payback.

Unfortunately, the legit R1 DVD release is only okay.  The video quality is fine, but the subtitles are kinda shit.

I also love how Simon Yam pretty much plays the same exact villain, only the less overtly sadistic/homophobic version of him in Ringo Lam's years later film Finding Mr. Perfect, which in of itself is a breezy romantic comedy with action scenes (its Hong Kong, it just freaking works, okay).

oh, and The Three Musketeers (2011) is utter crap.  Its projects a loosey-goosey fun kind of tone, but its hard to ignore just how many bodies those musketeers leave in their wake, at films end they've got a body count that even John Woo might find kinda excessive.  Also, there's a fat comic relief character who's treated cruelly by the so-called protagonists for no other reason then somebody decided the heroes weren't appalling enough already.

Its also the rare film that feels over and under budgeted, as its awash in lavish costumes, huge awesome sets and a presumably expensive cast (Til Schwiger is billed tenth or so), but the special effects are mostly shitty.  And the brazenly stupid plot and everything else certainly doesn't give the impression that this was all that well planned out.

So maybe its a kids film, but its far too violent for any kid to watch who won't also be put off by the asinine plot (the foppish king wants to prove that his wife isn't stepping out on him, hilarity doesn't ensue) and characters on which far too much time is spent.  Its a disaster, but at least its sort of an interesting one.  And its got airships, lots of em'.  There's a airship battle that would pretty much perfectly represent a Skies of Arcadia movie, but that only lasts a few minutes, at least its something.

Underworld, the first one. Surprisingly enjoyable, considering I'd only seen the third and fourth films. It didn't seem /as/ direct-rip-off-of-White-Wolf as I'd expected. Also, I've come to the conclusion that you can't really have too much Kate Beckinsale in latex and leather. Bill Nighy's transformation was well handled, and I can see why the move was a surprise hit.

It's totally unclear what city or time period it's supposedly in, which makes it work all the better.

I also enjoyed, since this was another Romeo and Juliet riff on forbidden love, but does not end tragically, that the vampires were using busts of The Bard for target practice. :lol

Haywire was badass!!!  Holy shit I loved this movie.  It's Kill Bill but more quality replication, less homage to 70s era revenge films.  Really great action, good pacing, awesome soundtrack.  So much fun.

The fight on the beach in the sunset was SO CLASSIC AND COOL.

I refuse to see any of the. In the theater now. I was fine with two given the plan of exploring Gandalf's exploits after he briefly left the group. Three films is a pure money grab and cannot be justified. The book is simple and less than what, 600 pages? It is not LOTR

Movies are made to make money, sure - which is why there was going to be two Hobbit films instead of the logical choice of one. But making three Hobbit films to cover a book that is 300 PAGES LONG is ridiculous. I like the Hobbit, but there is nothing complex or amazing about its story. It's not a massive, epic tale like LOTR with thousands of characters and locations. It's a great, small scale fantasy book.

I read the LOTR appendices years ago, and while it certainly has some great info I see no reason for a film other than to provide Jackson with a sandbox he can do whatever he wants in.

A friend recommended Hannah so I checked that out.  There's a good stylish action thriller in there, but man oh man did this movie need a good editor to cut 30-40 mins from it.  The pacing is very off and most of the drama coming of age stuff fails.  Where it works the best is when it's crazy music blaring kinetic action scenes.  Gave me Run Lola Run vibes in those sections.

Also Eric Bana was terrible as a lost viking at the beginning.  But when he shaved he was good.
