What's the deal with Full Throttle, anyway? I mean, there have been a bunch of Monkey Island sequels and reissues. Is the IP for Full Throttle less-than-fully owned by LucasArts?

Full Throttle had two different sequels that were ultimately aborted. It just seems like the kind of game that's more difficult to do anything with and it's probably not as popular as Monkey Island anyway.

They were making a Full Throttle sequel in the early 2000's, but it looked terrible and got canned along with the Sam & Max sequel. Then when TellTale came along and had some success with Sam & Max, then I think LucasArts was like "Oh damn, we need to get some that!" and dumped some Monkey Island stuff out there because it's their best known adventure property, but I guess they don't think there's any money to be had in Full Throttle.

Eric P:  Any good recommendations for legitimately good exorcism horror?  It seems to be the easiest horror sub-genre to fuck up and I don't think I've completely liked one except for The Exorcist.  But I figured if anyone knew of some good exorcism horror it would be you.

Drive?

So what's the EB Consensus on this? I thought it was pretty good. Very brooding, tense film that explodes into some pretty crazy shit. Gosling's performance is one of the most...emotionless I've seen in awhile.

I thought it was great, and I know Bebpo loved it as well.

It was shit. The Gosling was told to go full autism by the weeping director, and because of that, there was FUCK ALL.

i think the movie lives and dies on how much you enjoy Jennifer Carpenters performance. I felt it she put 100% into the role made all the exorcism scenes work. The movie's framework (court room drama) isn't amazing but the whole thing is worth watching for her.

10 out of 10 martinis. My favourite Bond.Dunno what to say really, an american movie that feels more british then other Bonds. Great pacing for two hour movie. Great thing is that it didnt feel like they were just ticking stuff of the bond list, nor did they try too hard to make it something its not. Just an amazin movie, bond or not.

Speaking of gentle P, I just finished watching Turn Me On, Dammit which is about a young girl's sexuality.  It's jailbait the movie, but it's told like a coming of age story more-so than Norwegian Pie.  It's a pretty good look at teen sex and it's nice to see something other than a standard portrayal of typical horn dog dude and submissive female characters.

Lots of young flesh including a horribly fake penis.

Hudsucker Proxy

Not the Coen Bros. best but one of my personal favoritess since I caught it on TV so many years ago. Funny, entertaining and has Bruce Campbell. Well casted, well written, well paced and has very good direction. I'm more surprised at how it isn't referenced as much, even though despite all the praise said its not a great movie still, but a very good one. But it has enough going for it to be cult status at least.

Hudsucker Proxy often gets put low on the Coen's list of movies, but I really like it, too. It's just a funny, good-natured movie.

Watched Argo (fuck yourself) and Wreck-it Ralph this weekend. I highly recommend them both.

Argo gets a little heavy-handed with the fake suspense towards it's end, but it's an incredibly fascinating tale about the Iran hostage crisis. They really nail the era with just about everything without overdoing it. Even the cinematography feels like it was from 1980.

I kind of assumed Wreck-it Ralph was going to be a cheap Disney cash-in on video game culture, but it actually has a lot of heart and the story stands on it's own. They load all the video game references in the front end and then let the story go from there. Probably the best animated movie I have seen since "Cloudy ..".

Yes, this was pretty abysmal. I was on an 11.5 hr. flight from SFO to KIX when this was on; really a waste of film, talent, and my time. Utter rubbish.

I mean, why did they have to remake Attack the Block for US audiences, anyway?

And the liberties they take with the characters and location are just unforgivable. It's strange to change from a disaffected youth to the manager of a CostCo, but I will say there is a certain ironic genius to changing the location from a tenement to a bulk-sales wholesale outlet, revealing the utterly ripe nature of consumerism which makes us soft to outside invasion, much like Rome became vulnerable to influence by the Germanic hordes.

Watched The Bay, directed by Barry (I thought he was dead) Levinson. It's pretty good for a non-supernatural found footage joint, some of the stuff was actually pretty disturbing.

Also Total Recall. There are couple of good looking cgi bits, but its just not any fun really. I'd put Wisemans skills just above Brett Rattner, he gets kudos for fucking his hot wife I guess, who is meant to be a HUGE BITCH irl. Feign surprise everyone at that blinding fact.

Rented Prometheus 3D - Interesting movie. The 3D was very well done. My 9 year old really liked it and said they'll probably make a sequel. I told her the sequel was made 20 years ago(even though it's debatable that it is the Alien prequel).

I took 4 kids to see Wreck it Ralph 3D on Saturday. $56 for 5 tickets +$20 for 1 large popcorn and 2 drinks. :wtf
The movie was cute, but they didn't cover as many games as I thought they would. This was my first 3D movie in a theater. I think 3D on my TV looks much better so I'll probably buy the 3D Bluray when it comes out.

The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension

Banzai and his crew are just so cool. This is another one of those movies that couldn't have come from any other decade than the 80's. It's got that great mix of weird and goofy that somehow works so well. Yeah, the story is a bit of a mess and it feels like episode 4 or 5 in a series, but I can forgive that because of just how much fun it is. Too bad it wasn't a success, because I definitely would watch another one of these.

Time of the Wolf - Probably the least depressing Heneke film I've yet seen.  Still fucked up, but not White Ribbon fucked up.

Vampyr - I thought I was getting Les Vampires, the 4 hour long silent french serial about master criminals instead I got this really great little film by Carl Dreyer, most famous for The Passion of Joan of Arc.  This was great with some amazing shots and wonderful gothic atmosphere.  It's based on Seridan Le Fanu's short stories but it seemed to fit more mood than taking the actual plots.

I caught God Bless America.

Not gonna lie, I didn't feel this one.  This movie reminds me of a cross between Red State and Idiocracy...and that's not a good thing.  Like Idiocracy, it has some great ideas (shooting a baby, nailing just why Diablo Cody fucking sucks) but fails in the execution to make those ideas work into a decent movie.  Like Red State, it features a bunch of heavy handed dialogue that is completely unnatural and beats you over the head with it.  I think that's because the writer wanted to ensure that this wasn't going to be conservative porn.

Worth a watch if you've exhausted through what's out there on Netflix.  It isn't a bad movie, it's just pretty mediocre.

Black Sunday / Mask of Satan.  Still good.  I love this movie no matter how many times I've seen it which has to be like 20 at this point.  The recent blu-ray is a tad rough at the start but it aquits itself quite well considering the source materials available.

love that opening

(wait for the ending)

and I also love Barbara Steele's grin at the end of the film as she realizes that she's triumphant.  Very expressive face that gets put to a lot of use in her dual role.  It's basically a vampire movie w/o the fangs as the ones they purchased looked too fake.

Still definitely worth a watch.

That looks like it has zero to do with the book, but oh well.

spoiler (click to show/hide)
Lt. Col. Bill Cage (Tom Cruise) is an officer who has never seen a day of combat when he is unceremoniously demoted and then dropped—untrained and ill-equipped—into what amounts to little more than a suicide mission. Cage is killed within minutes, managing to take an Alpha down with him. But, impossibly, he awakens back at the beginning of the same hellish day, and is forced to fight and die again…and again. Direct physical contact with the alien has thrown him into a time loop—dooming him to live out the same brutal combat over and over.
But with each pass, Cage becomes tougher, smarter, and able to engage the Mimics with increasing skill, alongside Special Forces warrior Rita Vrataski (Emily Blunt), who has lain waste to more Mimics than anyone on Earth. As Cage and Rita take the fight to the aliens, each repeated battle becomes an opportunity to find the key to annihilating the alien invaders and saving the Earth.

That's the new movie from the guy that directed TRON: Legacy and the writer of Little Miss Sunshine and Toy Story 3 [Michael Arndt]. They've been really quiet about this for the longest time, so I'm really glad that they're finally starting to talk about it.

That's All You Need is Kill.
