c/p'ing my post on gaf:
STUNNING.
i saw it in hfr 3d. the first time i saw old bilbo walking in his hallway at the very beginning, it looked sped up. hell, it's even noticeable from the moment the logo's appear right before the actual film starts. it immediately 'clicked' with me once during the flashback to erebor. my god, i have never seen a film so clear! no blur. no darkened images.
still, though, there were moments throughout the film where someone was blinking their eyes or someone was moving their
i thought 95% of the cg looked impeccable. the only time it looked awfully fake was during the chase sequence right before they arrive at rivendell--the creatures looked pasted onto the screen.
when i saw some of the stills beforehand, i thought it looked quite fake, but i didn't have problems like that when watching the film. i even remember watching the first trailer thinking it looked too bright, and colorful, and fake, but, again, i didn't have that problem when watching it.
as for the film itself? i loved it, even more so than any of the lord of the rings films. one thing that really stuck out to me was that the battles actually felt EPIC (i'm so sorry for using this word) this time around. with the previous films, the battles looked grand when seen from afar, but once you got into it, it always looked like there were no more than twenty people performing awkward acrobatics on some set.
the only part that felt too long to me was at the very beginning with frodo.
shit, the only thing i disliked was that the music sounded too familiar to the ones in previous films with the exception of the gorgeous "misty mountains cold."
tldr: avatar 3d, lulz.
