It could be interesting, though, if Wolverine becomes a horseman for Apocalypse and winds up being one of the bad guys. I'm hoping they go that route, at least. Past Wolvie basically has no clue about anything considering the state he was left in. His character's basically a blank slate now.

I really enjoyed x-men days of future past.

spoiler (click to show/hide)
the future scenes are so grim.  it's great.  because you have a dudes made of metal, fire, and ice they got away with some violent deaths on a pg13.

I think it manages tones better than other comic movies.  funny when it's appropriate, serious when it's appropriate, and it all feels natural.

if I had a complaint it's that Trask was relatively tame compared to all magnetos, X2 stryker and FC kevin bacon.  though casting a little person as the creator of giant robot men was clever.

and quicksilver is awesome.

I hate how Cyclops is not a big part of the movies and one of the big reasons I hated Last Stand was how they killed him off. Then again, Wolverine means more to most people than Cyclops and makes more bank. I'm not sure what you were expecting himumu.

For people to have taste in superheroes.

Saw Godzilla with my dad. Two movies in a single day lol. It was fantastic. I have no complaints and have no idea why this is garnering so much hate. The humanizing of the mindless destruction that's usually present in kaiju films makes it all the better, and the large cast of characters, what's for stake, and what they're fighting for. My only wish is that the film went around the world and starred a truly international cast, and their trials and tribulations of dealing with giant fucking monsters. But besides that :rock and fuck the ADD addled haters.

Cyclops was a pretty shitty character until like 2001. He is'nt even really that important for a good chuck on the 80s. There are plenty of other cooler X-men characters that should get the spot light before him. Like maybe a cool Storm for once. An Emma Frost played by someone who can act?

Storm was cool as shit in DOFP movie. Especially since she doesn't talk.

and Cyclops is the leader of the X-Men. He's a fine character given the Jean romance stuff is kept to a minimum. It doesn't feel like X-Men to me if there's no beams coming out of Scott's ass and fucking everything up. Cyclops kicks ass even if he is an asshole, but then most X-men characters are assholes.

Literally every defense of Godzilla in the GAF thread (most of which are from Dax) is "Yeah well the ORIGINAL GODZILLA from 1954 had even LESS Godzilla in it, so there!!"

It's just like... OK... I'm not sure how much flying the Superman serials from the 1940's had, either, but it's kind of something you expect from modern movies involving the character.

Cyke became god-tier with Avengers vs X-Men.

I wouldn't mind just one more movie with the original cast just so Cyke gets to be the leader he should have been. That was Dougherty's plan for X3 (Cyke feels guilty about Jean and builds the Danger Room) but Rattner had to come in and shit on everything.

The X-men have had other leaders. Storm, Cable, Rogue, even Gambit. Rogue's brief moment as leader was great fun. There are plenty of other X-men who should get the spot light. I'm also not sure how the X-men are assholes.

Also, I'm not sure how Cyclops is a wet blanket. Now, he's probably the most to the point character in the comics. All the other X-men are being over emotional, not Cyclops. I don't see how Cyclops has been ruined when Wheadon and Morrison actually did something with his character and made him more then the generic boy scout. He's been a very take charge and take no shit character the last ten years

I'm hopeful the inevitable casting of young Cyclops is for a/the leading role when Fassbender and Mcavoy take a step back and Jackman leaves/Wolverine is recast.

Cyclops was one of my favorite X-Men, but Marvel spent so long trying to make him an unlikable wet blanket, it finally took.  That's pretty much when I stopped giving a fuck about X-Men comics.  I hope Fox keeps the movie rights forever, because while I'd love to see Spidey and the Fantastic Four mingle in with the Avengers, the X-Universe can stay the fuck quarantined.

I used to like all of them, but then a lot of them were made unlikable and useless to give more moments to the popular ones. It's probably why I stopped following the X-Men a long time ago.

This. Wolverine is why I stopped reading. Every time.

also re: ratner, I feel like the dude cops a lot of blame for shit that wasn't in his control.  Fox gave him like a week to get a script together, and I'm pretty sure it was Fox that insisted on killing off Marsden's character as some sort of petty revenge for appearing in Superman.  Not saying Ratner is blameless or the best movie director, but the conditions really were against him doing his best work.

Oh totally. I threw Rattner under the bus because no one here knows about what an atomic douchelord Tim Rothman was. Thank God his ass is gone from Fox.

They've had multiple X books, sans-Wolverine, for years now.  X-Men, Uncanny X-Men, X-Factor, and X-Force do not have him present out of the current books.  He's in Amazing X-Men and Wolverine And The X-Men...and the latter focuses on the younger students despite the book's name.

You should check out All-New X-Men, Himu.  Young Cyclops is not a dick and has even been given his own series now.

Lust for Love: 99¢ rental on iTunes. I really wanted to like this movie, it has Dichen Lachman in an electric blue shock wig, so I was inclined to cheer for it in all ways possible. Sadly, the characters are hard to cheer for, making poor decisions and ludicrous demands.

A group of actors who met during various Joss Whedon efforts (Cabin in the Woods, Dollhouse, Dr. Horrible; Joss and Jed as well as Eliza Dushku get a shout-out in the credits) got together to make a completely predictable and staggeringly unrealistic romantic comedy about mostly alcoholic oddly-named young people in what may be Los Angeles. I barked laughter at a couple points which may have been improvised. I spent most of my time shaking my head and shouting "FUCK OFF" at the screen. The writing fell flat and was was kind of creepy left-and-right. There were some wild stabs in the dark at literary structure, but sadly a wild stab in the dark was more of a gut wound that left it bleeding out slowly.

The typical noughties rom-com camerawork was solid, the musical score was fun, and the twee-as-fuck soundtrack was pretty charming, but the audio was uneven, and the overall length and pace needed tighter editing.

The Groundstar Conspiracy - this is a very good twilight zone episode store stretched out into an hour and a half feature length time.

Quote
Employee John David Welles attempts to steal rocket booster plans from the Groundstar facility. His attempt goes awry and he is badly disfigured in an explosion and barely escapes. He stumbles to the home of Nicole Devon, and collapses. She calls an ambulance, the authorities are alerted, and soon Welles is operated on, given plastic surgery and interrogated by a gung-ho government official named Tuxan. But Welles claims to have no memory of his crime. In fact, he claims no memory of his life at all, save for brief glimpses of a woman and small boy frolicking on a beach.

Despite Tuxan's brutal interrogation techniques (electro-shock and water submersion), Welles still maintains his story of total amnesia. Tuxan allows Welles to escape, hoping he will lead them to the people behind the attempted theft. Welles goes to Nicole's home and begs her to help him remember. But she knows nothing.

Not horrible, but not that great.  I watched it because, hey 70s conspiracy thriller with strong elements of paranoia but it didn't really live up to the premise.

Godzilla (2014) has got me in the mood to watch some Godzilla movies. I've seen bits and pieces of several on TV, but the amount that I've actually sat down and watched end to end I can almost count on one hand: Gojira, Godzilla vs. Megalon and Godzilla vs. The Sea Monster (thanks MST3K), Godzilla 2000 (actually saw that in theaters), Godzilla vs. Megaguirus, and Godzilla Final War.

I bought those Blu-Ray 2-Packs that Sony released a few weeks ago, and I've been making my way through those. So far I've watched

- Godzilla and Mothra: The Battle for Earth
- Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II
- Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla
- Godzilla: Tokyo S.O.S.

I think so far my favorite is Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla based almost solely on the ridiculous origin they came up with for SpaceGodzilla. If I'm remembering correctly, the death of Biollante shot particles of Godzilla's DNA into outer space, where they were then sucked into a black hole and then shot out of white hole, causing it to crystalize, then it got irradiated by an exploding star, thus causing it to mutate into a fully grown Godzilla that could fly around in space and had crystals stuck all over it.

And speaking of Biollante, my brother-in-law has the Godzilla vs. Biollante Blu-Ray, so I'm gonna watch that one as soon as I can bum it off him.

Apparently, Edge of Tomorrow is really good:

Quote from: Time Out
The film's Groundhog Day-meets-Independence Day plot is actually pretty genius.

Quote from: Newark Star-Ledger
A big, bright, loud and occasionally smart entertainment, and well worth seeing once - although not, perhaps, every day for the rest of your life.

Quote from: The Wrap
Feels sharper and more clever than it might have been in other hands, and for a big summer star vehicle, that's surprise enough.

Quote from: Variety
Tom Cruise stars in this cleverly crafted and propulsively executed sci-fi thriller about a soldier forced to relive the same day over and over again.

Of course it is. It was crafted by a superior Nippon artist, not some lame-brained gaijin writer trying to appeal to base Western tastes. :smug
