Tron: Legacy was better than any Star Wars movie.

y'all put so much effort into being down on this movie like you've got something to prove. still salty about your movie ticket money for the prequels?

We're sorry, due to circumstances beyond our control, the script to the rest of the episode was lost on its way overseas. Luckily, the episode was finished by the Korean animators. We hope you enjoy the new ending.

i haven't seen legacy, because the first movie is honestly one of the most boring experiences of my life.  i'm sure it's better simply by law of averages, but do you stand up for the first movie, too?

Tron was awesome back in the day because it was the first movie to use CG.  I remember watching it as a kid.  It was pretty good.  The story line was even decent.  It didn't age well though, and I could see why someone would say that it's boring today.

Tron Legacy, in my opinion, was a good movie.  The plot wasn't amazing and had some continuity issues.  The CG looked bad in some parts (KEVIN FLYNN, WHERE ARE YOU NOW!?!?!?!).  However, I'm a big Jeff Bridges fan, Olivia Wilde was ridiculously hot in that movie for no particular reason, the movie had a good tempo to it, and the soundtrack was great.  I'll watch that movie anytime it's on.

i dunno.  i saw tron in the theatres because the commercials looked awesome to a kid, and fell asleep.  my stepdad rented it a few years later, and i fell asleep.  got a job at a video store when i was 14 and tried to watch it again, didn't fall asleep but fuck was it boring.  then when the dvd came out, i tried again, and no, it was so goddam boring i wanted to play final fantasy 11 instead.

i appreciate what's going on special effects-wise there, but even though how they were doing it was amazing, the end result wasn't all that spectacular compared to what other movies were doing with greenscreen, miniatures, and practical effects at the time, and many of those weren't nearly as soporific.  and, like, i know it wasn't just me... that movie had a reputation at our video store as one of the worst big budget movies ever made, kind of like disney's ishtar or something.  no one ever, ever rented it.  except me, that one time.  it wasn't until i got the internet that i found even one human being that enjoyed the movie.  lots of praise for special effects, but nobody ever seemed to like the movie itself.

Oh the original Tron was boring as hell, no argument there.

my favorite part was when the main characters literally took a nap for 20 minutes of screentime (three hours on the grid i think)

even they knew it was boring, man

I've never liked tron for anything but the videogame/music video/daft punkness visuals it inspired. The movie itself is like watching paint try while an uncomfortable fart cloud approaches.

Watched Grand Budapest Hotel.

I'm generally not the target for Wes Anderson films. I get why people like them but they are sometimes a bit too cutsey and wear their artsiness a bit too much on their sleeve for my particular tastes.

I did like this one though. Mainly because the performance of Ralph Fiennes was so good that he was able to carry the movie for me and give a really charming performance that the rest of the movie hangs on.

So I ended up liking it more than something like Life Aquatic or Rushmore.

Edge of Tomorrow was pretty dang good. Cruise still has it, you guys. Emily Blunt held her own, too. Also, Bill Paxton as a master sergeant from Kentucky was so good and I wish there'd been more scene with him in it. They did a good job here of never letting the movie get too serious for too long. You know, no dwelling too much on how war is so bad, and it had some genuinely funny/amusing moments.

spoiler (click to show/hide)
Best part was Cruise's first attempt to sneak away from his unit by rolling under a truck, which resulted in him getting squashed and Bill Paxton using a :kobeyuck face in response.

Yeah, loved it. It's more 8/10 material than 9/10 though (going off the RT score.)

Loved it all the way through. Cruise was absolutely excellent, and Bill Paxton was great. Halfway through it I was like, "oh! That's the bad guy from Agents of Shield!"

Totally different build in this movie. :lol

Finally saw DOFP. It's eh. I'd rank it about equal to X1 and behind X2 and First Class.

Funny, though, that when the picture of Quicksilver got released everyone had a fucking fit and he ended up being one of the best parts of the movie.  Spergs gonna special fellow I guess.

DOFP is disjointed, has poor pacing, and suffers from trying to undo a lot of Last Stand. First Class is a tighter, more concise story. It's kind of disposable and not very memorable but as a technical achievement, it's a better movie than DOFP.

Wait, why the fuck am I arguing with a Muse listening, GRRM ball gargling loony toon?

First Class is just lazy filmmaking, but it works. It's a by numbers "team building" movie. A lot of the Jr. characters are forgettable, but they're not really there to be characters, more like props.

DOFP does try more, but it fails at it too, imo. I mean, basically you're quibbling over me giving FC an 8.0 and DOFP a 7.5 or the equivalent. I liked both but think FC is a bit better.

The Toolbox Murders - Nasty little film.  I'm not too certain how I feel about it.  It's very cheap and very grimy but that works in the film's favor.  It has a very unusual ending and a brutal if non-explicit coda.

Come Drink With Me - the film that turned The Shaw Brothers into a kung fu film factory.  I hadn't seen this in nearly a decade, but a local museum's King Hu retrospective motivated me to take a look.  You can tell that a lot of the content is sui generis as it sets up several tropes which are still in play in 2014 within the genre.  It's a bit sloppier than I recall but then Hu's editing hadn't yet hit its highs. Hard to say if it's worth a watch as anything other than a history piece.

i watched DOFP last night and was completely blown away

it's easily up there along side Kick-Ass and Spider-Man 2, and in time i wouldn't be surprised if i were to call it my favorite comic book movie because of how it effectively erased all the shit that came before it and expanded the franchise into one that can easily compete with Marvel's shit. this hinges on whether they recast Jean, Cyclops, Storm and Rogue moving forward.. luckily we'll be seeing more of the first class era which is especially good since i am totally gay for Fassbender's Magneto.

The Dance of Reality had a few brilliant moments but the film dragged on for far too long and i had very little interest in Jodorowsky's political lesson.

Jason Momoa has been cast as Aquaman in the Zack Snyder‘s Man of Steel sequel/Justice League prequel Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice. Hitfix has confirmed the long rumored casting, and claims Snyder has “already finalized his designs for the character so shooting can take place soon.”
