I mentioned that I'd bought Prometheus on a $5 sale, right? I'd also said that I hated it the first time I saw it, but liked it more the second time, yes?
Put me back in the earlier camp. This movie is visually gorgeous, but it's a complete stinker for story and characters. There is NO ONE likable other than Noomi Rapace' character. She's the idealist, she's the innocent, and that's it. MAYBE the captain, but Ms. Weyland is clearly a corporate shit-heel with daddy issues, and the captain puts his dick in that at some point IIRC. The howling wolf geologist and his pups are just ridiculous. Any hiring team knows you want as good as you can get BUT can still work in a team. This guy is a mental case, aggressive, fearful, confrontational… a prima donna. David is wonderful as a nuanced character, the Lawrence of Arabia thread is a great nod, but perhaps followed a little slavishly?
I may have more to whine about later, but I'm really wondering why I didn't remember how much this movie disappointed me the first time.
