Finally watched Yorgos Lanthimos's Dogtooth. I've seen his other films, love The Favourite, like The Lobster, didn't care for Killing of a Sacred Deer.

This one was interesting, kinda one note concept, so thankfully it's only a bit over an hour, but good flow with weird uncomfortable and dark humor scenes. It was well done though I admit I was a little bored.
I liked his smaller scale movies, like Dogtooth and Alps.
Some argue something like The Lobster (which i still loved) goes on for too long, especially in the second half, and it's hard to fault that critique.

I realized I never heard of Alps. I thought his career went from Dogtooth -> The Lobster. Will have to check that one out.

Bit on the weaker side, but i liked the premise.
Other than that, it's his usual movie with surreal premise, deadpan acting, dark humor, sudden violence, awkward sex, all of that.

I've just watched 3. Is "Sinister Seduction" & "Sleeping With My Student" basically the same movie? Wait, are they all the same movie? Person A meets Person B - who at the end discovers that Person A slept with/car-crashed/bankrupted Person B's mother/father/brother/sister?

I FOUND A DIFFERENT ONE! WITH A VOICEOVER : "Love's Last Resort" the summary says "Featuring Alan Thicke in one of his final roles."
Oh ok, there are the romcom ones and the romthrillers

Continuing my Shudder run, watched Daniel Isn't Real. I'd heard this was good, and I was at a short film festival last year and one short was starring Adam Egypt Mortimer and in the Q&A after they were talking about how it's crazy he's getting all big because of directing Daniel Isn't Real. Been meaning to watch it.

Was pretty good. Like 9 out of 10 times I watch an indie horror movie I'm disappointed and it's dumb and artsy. This was one of those times where it was a bit artsy but still very satisfying and solid paced. The super low budget shows at a few bits that are a little hokey like effects, but the actors nail it and the soundtrack is pretty good. Solid story too.

I had no idea who the actors were until I was looking at film trivia and found out the lead two actors are Tim Robbin's son and Arnold Schwarzenegger's son. That's pretty funny. They do a good job. And the actresses are both good too with Sasha Lane and Hannah Marks.

It's sorta Clive Barker's horror Fight Club.

I watched “cube” finally the other day. I feel like everyone in the world who watches horror has seen this movie already. The acting is quite good, and they sure get a lot of mileage out of a single set room. It’s fun to watch character dramas like this.

One Cut of the Dead - yeahhhhh, no. I had to FF through most of this. The concept was cute but the execution was just a 30 min terrible movie and then a movie I wasn't interested in watching.

Mayhem - Entertaining, but that's about it. After seeing Yeun really act in Burning, he's kinda just ok here and Samara Weaving has done much better stuff as well. It's surprisingly tame for the concept, but fine.

The bootleg Jack Black and Silent Jay. Jason Ritter. Kelly Rowland. Hard fakkit dropped. Terrible CGI.

I think Daredevil has a pretty comparably bad soundtrack... but it has Jennifer Garner in it.

Watched Mad Max: Fury Road

It has been a while since I had last seen it so I had forgotten how good it was. The visuals, the setting, the pacing, the casting. Basically everything fits together extremely well.
Even though the story is rather dark and the action gruesome at times this is such a fun film to watch.

Suicide Squad : "it's like no other superhero movie", "it's a 70's".. blah blah. Wasn't Gunn cancelled already and now redeemed?
looks better than original suicide squad, but that aint hard. pass
Black Adam, seriously a bad animatic? reserve judgement until real trailer.
WW84 - that Cheetah cgi costume, ouch. wait for streaming
The Batman, guess DCs new plan is 70's aesthetic... Batmans beatdown of the white faced thug is giving me nolan thrown punch flashbacks. but looks like it will be good, and Pattinson is always watchable.

when are we going to lose the 10 second pre-trailer trailer, or do we move to that only, which i blame on tiktok  ;)

Saw Drag Me To Hell yesterday.

Much more straight forward. Short. Plot and motivations of the lead established within 15 minutes. I appreciate those qualities.

Technically horror, but more campy/funny. I lol'ed multiple times.

Reviews overhyped this though and I was guessing the twist towards the end. The movie is only barely 11 years old but it felt older to me.

Good for a single watch, but ultimately forgettable.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind – Great. This was great. Went in completely blind. I only knew the main poster image and that was it. So the main premise was a complete shock to me.

I liked how the movie timeline is not linear as we experience it. I like the main two characters (I’m a little less into Kirsten and Mark’s characters as they were kind of annoying to me, but in a way they sort of were meant to be.) Jim Carrey not being a goof is nice to see. I like the more human side of him and he has a few scenes where he gets to pull out  a little of his wacky side (it’s subtle though). Kate Winslet slides in really well with this eccentric character that she plays. The dynamic between her and Jim’s characters seems very fitting. With Jim being much more careful in both his actions and words while Kate’s character is more brash and unrestrained. It’s a bit of a ying and yang situation.

The things that happen in Jim’s character’s mind during the session he is going through is fantastic. Both what we see unraveling in terms of the relationship and also the camera and set design transitions. Super cool. Loved that.

The movie glides effortlessly and its 1:50 or so running time goes by quite briskly. Several twists that caught me off guard as well. This was great. I’m really happy I got to experience this movie without having the slightest clue what it was about.
