The turn based combat system is an awesome option. I restarted my game cause I forgot to login to live the first time, and I walked in on the overseer and the guard questioning my friend and before the guard can turn around I do a shot point black to the back of his head and the turn based cinematic showed his head explode into chunks. lol

I cleared out most of the school but I suspect melee is better against giant ants than guns. The gun fights are fun.

I actually warned up to VATS when playing yesterday, but I can't imagine ever playing through the entire game that way.  Only time I really use VATS is when I want to throw a grenade.

This game is absolutely incredible.

Last night I experienced my first night outside the vault. Scary as shit. I holed up in some old barn looking thing because I went the wrong direction to Megaton. Didn't want to move because I was afraid of getting ambushed (combat has been somewhat difficult so far...lack of stimpacks).

I had a similar experience.  I had to walk from the Walmart to Megaton, and it was night, and it was fucking dark.  I figured "no problem, I'll use my light" but that didn't do much.  I ended up going back inside and scavenging for a few hours.  It's like there's a day and night cycle I actually give a fuck about.

I saw a giant ant outside of a super market murdering a bunch of guys trying to fight it off with hunting rifles, so I tried helping.  My weapons barely even hurt it so I ran the hell out of there.  I fear entering the school now, but at leats I have my power fist.

Apparently the light turns on by holding down the pipboy button.  I just read about that yesterday after playing for 10+ hours wishing I had a light.

There's occasionally the random straggler who will sell you stuff, or give you a quest. It's for the most part desolate and filled with enemies like raiders and monsters.

Fallout: Stalker Light
Fallout: Playable Stalker

Stalker had some great ideas but was utlimately a broken, buggy mess of a game.  Not even the mods could save it.  I've tried 5 or 6 individual times to get into the game but I just can't stand the massive onslaught of enemies spoiling virtually every area.  Why focus on such a desolate place only to fill it with hoards of mindless drones?  When you couple with awful combat you've pretty much ruined a potentially great thing.

Stalker - Clear Sky seems to be significantly worse in that regard (I most certainly did NOT buy Clear Sky).

Question to other PC gamers: For some reason when I started the game my walking speed is actually running and when I use the shift key to run it makes me walk. Last night however, it randomly switched on and I had to use my shift key in order to run. And then this morning it switched back once again. It just seems to happen at random and isn't tied to a skill in the game or a setting, as far as I can tell. Is anyone else having this problem and how do I alleviate it?

Caps Lock switches between Always Run and Always Rock.

By the way, I noticed that NMA and their ilk have been picking at every negative aspect of Fallout 3 in order to convince themselves that it's a horrible travesty that they won't even be able to derive a minute's entertainment from. Reading through their impressions and reviews is hilarious because they blow EVERYTHING out of proportion and squeal like fangirls whenever a review comes out that's lower than 8.0. I think there's only one so far that does and it's not by any site/person that anyone should care about. Ah well, back to the awesomeness of Fallout 3.

When you get the pipboy they explain this to you.

I do not remember the last time I played a game where I didn't want to sleep.  The ironic thing is that playing Fallout 2 put me to sleep.  I could never get through more than an hour.

Anyone else changing their display colors.  I'm using blue to compliment the night and amber to compliment the day.

You do realize that an assault rifle is still small arms, right? unless you mean a gattling gun or something like that.

I cleared out the super duper mart, once through, grabbed all the stuff inside and ran. Blew a lot of heads off. When youre locked out of a terminal from a failed hack, how long for the terminal to reset? Does it reset?

Giant Mutant Crabs also got pissed that I was near their eggs and chased me all over creation. Took out two of them without wasting TOO much ammo :/

I spent too much time looking around in the Super Duper Mart.  Killed everyone in there, and after a while, reinforcements came.  I got lots of ammo and loot to sell though.

The ants that you have to fight for the quest aren't regular ants, they're fire ants, which in the world of Fallout means ANTS THAT BREATHE FRACKING FIRE AT YOU!  :drudge

Got the PC version today.  Beautiful fucking game.  After Oblivion's over saturated fuck fest, this game's mellow palette is quite refreshing.  It also seems to run a lot better.    VATS is better and more useful than I thought.  I've only played up to Arefu, but I like it so far.  The opening part was cool.

Indeed.  Kinda wish I could set it to Ultra settings (drops to low 20s in certain spots with it + 2xAA, 8xAF), but it stays locked on 60 with High + 2xAA/8xAF.  That's with a 3.0 core 2 duo, 8800GTS 512, and 2gb DDR2 ram at 1440x900.

And the game is much better than I thought it would be.

I'm amazed at how well it runs on my PC.  Everything is at max, running at 1680x1050 resolution, constantly stable frame rate, almost no load times at all.  Just amazing.  V-sync is even on.

fuck you fuckers and your ultra settings.  I should try toning down the AA/AF and turning off Vsync...could probably get it up to 60 on ultra like that

yeah, Bethesda really kicked ass on the load times...practically none.  Optimization is nice too.  huge improvement over oblivion.

I remember running Morrowind fine, and it should have since I actually got that computer specifically for Morrowind after playing it at a Compusa for an hour and realizing that I must have the game.  Oblivion on the other hand ran really poorly on my other computer (not the same one I got for Morrowind, this one was after the Morrowind one, before the one I'm now) and I was forced to turn down a lot of things about it.

And the load times are seriously incredible.  I can quick save in one part of Megaton, go to the complete opposite end, hit F9 and it will load up instantly.  It almost feels like a gameplay mechanic more than a quick load it's so well optimized.
