I'm not sure if that's a good or a bad thing actually.  I think I spend way too much time scavenging so maybe it's actually a good thing.

Finished anchorage, which was pretty dull for my level 20 char. I've shelved this now until the level cap + continue playing DLC comes through.

I finally got all 1100 gamerpoints. I don't think I've obsessed over a game this badly in quite some time. Time to give it a break and actually start Fable 2.

i haven't gotten really far to actually form an opinion on the game itself, but it hasn't left a good first impression on me.
I will say i think the controls suck and the graphics are unpleasing to my eyes.

I walked around Megaton for a bit. Got the quest to go to the super market and the dude who wants me to blow up the bomb. Went to the market and got attacked by dudes, dunno what to do about that. Then this little kid asked me to find his dad so I followed him and got killed by ants spewing fire. Thats when i quit.

Same here, I'm at level 18.  I just pop it in sometimes because it's great fun, but I have to make sure I don't kill too much stuff. :-\

wtf? Are we supposed to empathise with you?

i didn't realize the game would give me a quest this early on that requires me to have a lot of ammo. i only had a pistol and 5 bullets.

anyway, i finally got a few guns and ammo and started walking around. Made it to some school and killed all the people inside. The controls are really bad. Feels like I'm playing a budget FPS game from 8 years ago.

When i'm just walking around doing little tasks for people it's better, but the game still feels really janky.

So I got some weapons together and went to complete the mission for the little kid. I killed a bunch of fire ants and started looking for his father.
Then the game crashed again.

i can clearly see why people love this game so much.

My science-oriented character killed three of those(!) damned ants with a knife today, without using VATS. If you've looted the ant bodies, take a closer look at what you get off of them. Also, if you're intent on going it with ranged weapons instead of duking it out mano-a-podo, go talk to the boy again and listen to what his dad says about their behavior.

Loading a previous save or continuing a saved game results in a complete lock-up of my system now, for whatever fucking reason, forcing a manual restart. bullshit. i ran a registry cleaner and it still is fucked up. what a shitty piece of software. I already had to do some bullshit workaround in order to allow my wife to be able to play the DLC that I legally paid to use.

ok to be honest, after shitting on the game I started warming up to it.
I got used to the shitty FPS action and ugly graphics and started doing more side quests that involve me traversing.

but man
it would not stop crashing. i couldn't go 10 minutes without restarting.
so i got fed up and deleted the game.
if I can get the game on the cheap i probably will. i do want to see the game through to the end.

lol, complaining about crashing with some jacked up pirate copy that doesn't even install the game. what the fuck did you expect? this isn't a windows 95 world where you can replicate an install by just copying and pasting a directory over and copying a cracked exec.

i have game rips for 4 other games that are from the same source. same "install" process.
Dead Space, Crysis, Crysis Warhead, and Supreme Commander.
None of them crash randomly

the means in which it get it to work isn't the problem, the problem is that i can't patch the game because of the means.

i have read about various people having their unpatched game crashing a lot.

either way, next time i play it it'll be purchased most likely.

The 360 version at least seems pretty stable, I haven't had a crash or bug yet.  Haven't even seen a game-breaking bug yet - I'm questioning whether Bethesda really did develop this game.

Yeah, even at the end of the game I never really had much in the way of caps to spare... most of my money went into ammo, stimpacks, and repairing.

I think you can steal one of the rock it launcher schematics from one of the roving merchants. But as far as caps go, most of your income will be coming from repairing duplicate weaponry and armor. At the max, I had around 5,000 caps at one point.

I like how you can't accumulate hundreds of thousands of caps - too many games just involve some grinding and then money is never an issue again for the entire game.  I think I've only had about 5,000 max as well.

Yeah, I'm definitely enjoying that I have to work for everything. Bioshock, GTA4, Fable 2... they all start out with a lot of penny-pinching, and then one moment you realize you're Howard Hughes. Fallout has all kinds of ways of thrilling my "inner collection nut."

Moira's got the Rock-It Launcher schematics for like 1600 or something, though it lists the value at 1200. I thought she'd lower the price as I continued to do all the optional portions of the Wasteland Guide, above-and-beyond the main requirements. No...

How do I steal from a caravan guy? Pickpocket?

Yep, though you'll need to get to another merchant spot where you can be obscured a bit (Megaton merchant area is a bit too exposed). I believe Wolf has that schematic.

I'm playing Fable 2 now and it's great fun but the way money is balanced is pretty broken.  After trading for a while and buying property I have so much money I can't make it decrease no matter how much stuff I buy.  Jobs, bounty hunting, and finding money in treasure chests all become pointless.

Fallout's system is downright awesome, and the way you need items to repair stuff also helps keep things realistic.

the most i had is after finding 100+ locations, i did the reilys rangers mission and gave her the map locations. i ended up with about 2800 caps from that. previously id been hovering at around 1500-2000, now I had almost 5000
