Y2kev annihilated....
Too Human was defended before it released, before it was reviewed, and by a few that rightfully felt that the amount of dog shit the game was thrown to, was unfair, considering circumstances.
Fact that after all of it, the consensus was "The game is shit, fuck you Denis", and that nobody wants a sequel, stands as an impressive showing compared to notable moments in SDF history with the "You haven't played Lair, it's actually pretty good" defense, and the "Oh yeah mfoker? Heavenlly sword looks and sounds amazing, so it rocks!" episodes.
I think you need to go back and review what the hell was actually going on with Too Human before trying to make some sort of comparison between that and some game the sony army has trumpeted over the past couple of years because honestly there is no comparison. Too Human was a fucking mob scene of angry detractors well before the game came out or even demoed and that was because there was an air of carte blanche to say whatever you wanted to about Dyack. People got banned not for saying shit about Dyack or "protecting" the game (and there was like what, one or two of them?) but for trying to ask for some fucking civility. I should know, I was one of 'em. You may disagree with the guy and may not like his games but what went on over there was absolutely ridiculous. If you want to name a game where xbots went nuts use Halo 3 as an example, not Too Human.
I'm not looking for an instance of xbots going crazy, more of people defending a bad game. And there was plenty of defending of too human post-demo. I'm not going to go back and find anything and I don't like to make up quotes attributable to no one like our friend Wrika here, but at the same time I'm not going to argue that you aren't right. To an extent. Too Human got a rough deal from day 1. I don't think I was ever an angry detractor (I defended Dyack quite a bit during 2006 and 2007), but I knew that game was going to be a turd and I was critical of it. I think a lot of people were like that.
But, like, if you really go and look, you're not going to find the types of quotes about LAIR that Wrika is attempting to generate. There aren't that many people that feel that way. I'd wager there are at least as many Too Human fans are there are LAIR fans.
But this is really completely not what I mean to say. Psychoanalyzing fanboy groups is stupid, especially when they're there and we're here.
This console war is a prolonged joke because we've all been unable to accept Wii's dominance.
The difference is that X360 has enough exclusives that X360 fans don't feel the need to make every title their savior. They can just pick the better ones and hype them up (Gears/Halo/Forza/PGR/etc...) and then quietly ignore the lolz (Too Human/N3-2/etc...)
Sony has so few exclusives these days, every title gets a huge defense force regardless of quality. This is Sony's fault too. Their in-house development has been MISSING this entire generation for the PS3 outside of the Siren remake. Sony needed to get their games out in 2007 & 2008 and it's 2009 and nothing has still been announced outside of GoW3 which won't be until 2010 (same deal if a Team Ico game finally gets announced).
I'm sorry Bebpo but this is nonsense. Half of the "savior" meme comes from agitating fanboys of other consoles that ignite people like dfyb into causing shit. Where are people calling games like Folklore, HSG, and Valkyria talking about these games saving the console? Both systems have about the same number of exclusive titles...
Second, you are not looking at reality. Look at Sony's output last gen from their Japanese studios. It's Gran Turismo (represented on PS3), HSG (PS3), Siren (PS3), Team ICO (will be on PS3 shortly), Ape Escape (not on PS3), and then funding teams like Level 5 (on PS3), Game Republic (on PS3), and Mediavision (not on PS3).
There is no silver bullet from Japan. There never was.
And WRT Heavenly Sword, I think it's a really neat little game, most people like it when they go into it without crazy expectations, and it reviewed pretty well. It's a shame that the developer was pulled off it.
