Just got the 360 Dreamcast Collection from newegg. Screw Bullet Witch (game sucks, which is a shame because it has potential), I'm gonna play some Space Channel 5 and Crazy Taxi :rock

SC5 Part 2 is SO GOOD :bow

Completely obliterates the first game. A couple of the achievements are super hard too, gat damn. Not sure I'll try to complete this one.

i took a trip on gamefaqs and i just readed that to get the "walked up a lot on the world map" achievement people just leaved the game on doing it's thing for 10 hours while simply doing other stuff....

refusing to do this kind of shit is what would separate me from an achievement whore,i mean i like the achievement system and all,but this is bad enough to make me want to slap the developer in the face,no wonder then people go saying that achievements are the worst thing ever

Achievements are good when they are skill-based, not grindfests. Which basically means RPGs will never have good achievements.

Bioshock 2

Picked it up for $5 during the 2K Steam sale. Yep, it's more Bioshock alright. Not necessarily a bad thing, since Bioshock is perhaps something of which more is not a bad thing. On the other hand, it's just more plumbing the same depths of the same places with very similar weapons and combat. And that's the main problem here, I can already tell. It does nothing particularly new, other than making your character lumber a bit. It's a new story, but not one that really needed to be told. Oh well. It was $5 and it is more Bioshock after all.

Tried the El Shaddai demo

...yep, about what I expected.  Average slasher that's nowhere near real combat games like DMC or NG.  The combat seemed shallow, level design in the demo stage was super boring and almost put me to sleep, the art design in the demo stage really meh; I want to see the stages in all the neat looking pics.  This stage just looks like an SMT Nocturne ripoff.  Platforming was ok, but a little janky.  The wave running effect was cool but when you see the detection being off it looks really amateurish.

Maybe I'm harsh but when you're used to real action games like God Hand, DMC, NG, Bayo, Shinobi, these 2nd rate titles just aren't very fun.

Pass.

I honestly wish I understood where the hype for that game is. I mean, it certainly can't be for the gameplay,  or the seemingly lackluster story. Sure the artsyle is really pretty, but it's not like it's something incredibly new... yet everyone on both sides of the Pacific are going crazy over the title.

I don't really care if the game winds up being terrible, I'll be playing it for the art and graphics alone. It looks 50x more interesting than all of the 'real' graphical powerhouses.

200'd Duke Nukem Manhattan Project as well. Pretty bland and uninteresting game from start to finish pretty much. The level design is okay, but the combat is dull and the controls are janky, so it's just not very fun to play. 5/10

I enjoyed that game for it's one-liners and easy achievements.

Eh, I love Okami's art design as much as the next guy but I think the stage in the El Shaddai demo has bad art.  It's like someone just threw all their shit in photoshop and spazzed on filters.

I like some of the pics I've seen from further in the game, but the demo stage was nothing special from an art perspective.

i like grindfest but they have to be moderated, like i don't have any problem with the "get to level 200" achievement when there is a way for my characters to gain 20x the experience and reach that in a few boss fight, but "walk around for 10 hours" is distinguished mentally-challenged

Went to a local sci-fi con... dealer's room, Play N Trade was set up. Had the most amazing PS1 RPG lineup ever... but they also had a SEGA CD-X, a system that I've been wanting for years. I managed to heckle the guy down to $100... so I am now the proud owner of a CD-X. Any recommendations? So far I already have Willy Beamish, Lunar 1, and Popful Mail (bought all these in anticipation of getting a SEGA CD)... played a bit of popful mail today and it's awesome. NOOOOOO! Damnit, I grabbed Bullet Witch on my last US trip, and was looking forward to it. What's wrong with it?

- The levels are HUGE so you spend a lot of time running from battle to battle (or running around aimlessly because you're lost).

- There are lots of colored barriers around the map that block off the next section, and to deactivate the barriers you have to destroy a floating brain. So you wind up running back and forth looking for a brain to kill, only to get to the next area and do the same thing. It's very tedious.

- It looks like a low-budget Xbox 1 game. I don't mind the bad graphics, but I do mind the bad framerate and poor collision detection. The engine is crap.

- There's very little variety between the standard enemies. You just fight generic soldiers 80% of the time, and maybe once in a while they'll throw something different at you. It's repetitive and not very fun, especially since enemy AI is practically non-existent.

- It's really short (takes like 3-4 hours to beat). I'm not sure if that's a good or bad thing.

I do like how you have a bunch of different magic abilities you can use, like sending a bunch of ravens after a group of enemies, summoning a wall for protection, and some ultimate spells that destroy everything in the area. It's pretty unique, so it would be nice if someone copy+pasted the main character into a good game.

DR2 isn't really about the combat. The point of the game is to complete as many scoops as you possibly can. Lots of people mistake it for Dynasty Warriors: Zombies though.

magus, I've had this discussion before but the time limits are the only thing that make DR1/2 good.

If there were no time limits, there would be no challenge and it'd just be zombie musou as you walk around a big area killing zombies over and over and doing quests.  Would be boring and suck.
The time limits make the game exciting.  It's no longer about killing zombies, but it's about making decisions and racing the clock.  It changes the actual gameplay to a completely different genre.

You're not supposed to do everything within the time limit the first run.  Look at the map, look at the time, make decisions and race the clock.  Then afterwards you can decide if those were smart decisions or if you should have done something else and do that on further runs.  Do you want to make sure you fight all the bosses in your run?  Or save 95% of the survivors?  Or get achievements?  Or explore?  Pick and choose as you play.  It's about the furthest thing from a turn-based rpg as you can get.

gee the fact that i plays a tons of turn-based rpg doesn't mean i can't play anything else :lol

uh... anyway maybe saying that the time limit is the problem it's a little unfair,it's just that more often than not i look at the clock and it's like "OK! i have all the time in the world to do that, let's go rescue some people!" then i go rescuing someone,i go back to the hideout,i check the clock again and... "FUCK FUCK FUCK THERE IS NO TIME ANYMORE WHAT THE HECK HAPPENED TO ALL MY TIME?" then i reach the event i'm supposed to do and i'm like "okay i'm in the clear" but that bar that tells me how much time i got keeps ticking down, and i'm like "I'M RIGHT HERE WHY THAT BAR IS STILL TICKING DOWN???" then i finaly finish the event (even tough that time bar only had like a pixel left) and *BING* the next story event happens in 2 hours and now i barely have enough time to do the next story event!

maybe it's my fault for doing the optional stuff first and the story related stuff after
but anyway the most fun thing of the game so far it's doing and using those weird combo weapons... they aren't in the first dead rising right?

Nope, they aren't.

You're supposed to do the optional stuff between story missions, but yeah, usually I prioritize the story missions to make sure I don't miss them.  Also, as you're learning the layout of the map you'll learn where good weapons and items are so you can pick them up while heading toward your goal.  Oh and you can take survivors to some of the story missions (bosses) if you don't have time to head to the safehouse to drop them off first.  Give survivors weapons and they'll attack the boss.

i was doing one of the story missions when i checked if i had some other stuff to do and there were two other missions nearby, from the descriptions i tought both of them were survivors but one of them turned to be a boss and i got killed

what frustates me the most is that every boss i've fought so far has been a shoddy affair where the boss simply employs cheap hit & run tactics, seriously i wish i had zero shift a-la zoe that would make every boss 5 times easier, the cutscene before them are also incredibly boring and long, blaaaaaaaaaaaaa

i let one survivor die once (actualy i think two... i was wandering around randomly when the game announced "TIM DIED" even tough i never saw this tim guy at all) but they do give a lot of XP and XP gives me more card so all is cool

why do you need to save everyone in DR1?

There's an Achievement for it. I don't think there's a special ending for it, but I've not yet managed all survivors out, so I could easily be wrong.

I usually carry 6 survivors at one time. You shouldnt be running back and forth to safe house to maximize use of time.
In DR2, 6 survivors with weapons is basically a rolling death machine. In DR1 it's a liability.

sc:conviction is just a terrible game. Ugh. I haven't traded a game in for years but I knew id never touch it again I i couldn't pass up getting 30 bucks for it. The only good thing about that game is that I got RDR for twenty bucks because of it

i'm enjoying the mechanics but the situations they are putting me in are not all that conducive for a compelling stealth game. i can basically just headshot my way through everything. they've swung it way to far in the other direction.

yeah, you need to save every survivor possible to get the "Saint" achievement in DR1. You may an extra scene at the end but I cant remember. Maybe Otis says some cool shit to you I dunno

Oh my god fuck the steam version of GTASA

Uninstalled, redled, reinstalled, still no fix. Researched everywhere online and it seems Rockstar removed - yes, REMOVED - 16:9 option in the 3.00 patch, which is unmoddable (thanks Hot Coffee!).

Play on 1024 x 768? Fuck that.
