The stages are slow and boring, the scoring systems are awful, the art is very poorly drawn, the graphics are awful, the bosses are okay, and the music is kinda good. Perfect Cherry Blossom and Embodiment of the Scarlet devil are okay though.

For good doujin shooters, see: Hellsinker, Crimzon Clover, and Cho Ren Sha 68k.

that double spoiler game is different, there are no stage just bosses, you don't shoot instead you have to take photo's of the boss (between 3 and 5 depending on the stage) the more bullet you take in your pic together with the boss the bigger the score and the closer you are to the boss, the bigger the photo you can take so there is a pretty big risk vs reward factor involved

Finally got around to beating WET. Pretty good game, but it doesn't hit its maximum potential, sadly. It's very repetitive with little variety - it could use many, many more types of enemies and probably a few more moves as well. Fun game though, still better than most TPS. Gotta play it one or two or three more times for the full 1000, so I'm not even close to being done with it yet.

Now I kinda feel like playing Cadillacs and Dinosaurs.

Medal of Honor Airborne is really short.  It gets really repetitive and annoying in later levels when rocket troops kill you in one hit and german super soldiers take 3 rockets to kill.  Plus it's because there is no map.  Still fun and I'd replay missions if there wasn't a several minute long mandatory cutscene before each mission.

Beat Red Faction: Guerrilla today, ending was satisfying [in a "Take that you oppressive totalitarian government, you!!" way]. Not sure yet what I'm going to start on [aside from The Witcher 2], maybe finally finish Just Cause 2 or Darksiders. Haven't decided yet.

yeah the combat is the low point of the game and the story starts off pretty slow, but once the story kicks in the game is amazing. IIRC the desert temple is when I started going 'wow'. The mansion level is fuck amazing too

We've done almost a third of the game and I can't think of more than 1 or 2 traditional levels.

Biggest trick since Brutal Legend. I kinda wanna trade it in, which I never do... Only spit out 210 cheevos though and I like to get at least half of everything I play.

The Witcher 2 won't be finished downloading until late this evening, so I'll play some more Planescape: Torment. I'm...maybe halfway through, although probably a little less than that. My map still looks to have quite a few spaces left for more locations.

Wet is going to be a real chore to complete. The game is sooooooooo repetitive; I'm already tired of it on my second playthrough, and I still have to beat it twice more after this. :yuck

Some of the levels are awful too (the car chase missions and the one where you're falling from the plane, specifically). Makes the vehicle stages in Bayonetta look masterful.

Everyone rpg fan I've seen online who legitimately LIKES jrpgs likes Blue Dragon, and no I'm not talking about the Final Fantasy feggits who demand MATOOR or whatever.

I just don't know what you want. BD has awesome gameplay, really inventive encounter system, lots of quests, tons of charm, hilarious situations and a great a villian. It also offers a serviceable job system, has REALLY amazing graphics, a great Uematsu soundtrack, and some really good dungeon design, this is all on top of the fact it just oozes with charm.

You claim to be a jrpg fan, and you play lots of jrpgs, but out of every twenty or so jrpgs you play you'll maybe end up liking two, at best.

You just puzzle me.

BD has awesome gameplay

no that's not true at all, there is an incredibly basic job system slapped inside an incredibly dull and slow battle system, fucking dragon quest is more complicated than this

Quote
lots of quests

barring the fact that i still have to stumble upon one of these quests, the goodness of an rpg certainly doesn't stand in how many "go kill 5 of this monster" sidetask it throws at me

Quote
tons of charm

as i said toriyama monsters are cool and everything but the dungeons are so dull... last dungeon i went trough was some sort of brown wasteland that was just there....

Quote
has REALLY amazing graphics

hell no! again dragon quest 8 looked better and that's a ps2 game!

Quote
and some really good dungeon design

a brown hallway like wasteland count as good dungeon design? might as well play fallout 3 at this point >:(
remember that cursed castle in dragon quest 8? that one was kickass!

Quote

out of the last 4 rpg i played on console (5 if you want to count the last one i played on the wii) i liked 3 (4) out of them, know which was the lame one? it was lost odyssey!

i don't know everytime it seems people seems to realize when i raise a stink but not when i say something is good

mana khemia is a game that i recomend to everyone,it has a fun cast instead of these bunch of goody two shoes,it has character that each come with different and interessing skillset instead of this job system that manage to be blander than the original final fantasy, battle that were super fast instead of this thing that drags to death (i attacked some copper poo snake and somehow i clipped trough it and got backattacked then i had to wait like 1 minutes since every copper poo snake had to do his little dance attack 2-3 times before getting any sort of control) that kickass alchemy system.....

god i wish i was playing mana khemia instead of this :-\

Deathsmiles 2 X360 mode seems pretty good.  Definitely a steal at $30.  Sure the graphics are a little ugly compared to DS1, but the music is Cave awesome, the gameplay is ace and the story is cute like DS1.  I wish every Cave shmup had story scenes like Deathsmiles.  They're super short and non-interfering with the gameplay but they actually add some character to the cast which makes the endings more satisfying.

Death Smiles 2 does story scenes right, unlike the first game. You can turn all of the boss intros off in the options and you can press start to immediately skip all text/dialogue. I hate having to mash through text in DS1.

Finished up Ultra Hard and all of the challenges in Wet now. Just gotta do Golden Bullets difficulty and Points Count mode and I should be done.

Death Smiles 1 has quite a few exploitable enemy patterns. I used to get destroyed by Jitterbug's final attack in version 1.1, but as it turns out, you can just move from the top to the bottom of the screen in a straight line every time he does it and you can avoid it every time. Plus there are the two safespots against the tree boss, and the safe spot against the dragon's final attack.

The Virtuoso achievement shouldn't take too long to get with some practice. That oughta put me at 925/1000, which is about all I'll get out of this. The 300m achievement is doable, but I won't bother with it. And the final achievement for defeating Bloody Jitterbug is basically impossible unless you are a godly Japanese superplayer. I'm 99.99999999% certain that any whitey who has it is not legit.

Got mah Virtuoso achievement. Fucking hell, I am knocking out hard achievements left and right lately.  8)

My run actually went horribly, I can't believe I did it. I only had 1.5 lives going into the final stage, LOL. But I no miss'd everything, including Jitterbug, and then I did kinda poorly against Tyrannosatan, but I still killed him by the skin of my teeth. And since this achievement is worth 1150 points on TA, it bumped DS all the way up to #3 on my 'Best Games' list, right behind Dead or Alive 4 and Devil May Cry 4 (DMC4's score is overinflated though). :D

Does anyone have Lego Star Wars 3?

I got it cuz I figured it'd be a familiar and fun romp with the wife. But this game seems to eliminate all of the platforming, adventuring, and puzzling and instead it's gigantic arena battles or weird, poorly explained pseudo tower defense crap. Biggest trick since Brutal Legend. I kinda wanna trade it in, which I never do... Only spit out 210 cheevos though and I like to get at least half of everything I play.

If you're on Xbox for Brutal Legend, hit me up for multi. There probably aren't many playing multi anymore and there are some tasty 'cheevs for it.

If you want be able to clear the singleplayer stage battles effortlessly, use the multiplayer practice against AI mode on Brutal or Hard and you will become a master.

Then you can go online and someone who has figured out all the exploits will hand you your ass. At least that's been my experience.

there was this section of blue dragon where you need to kill 4 groups of robots,i switched to the poker channel and then started mashing A

5 minutes later,2 groups were dead... the game was so busy with his sloth paced animation that if the 360 joypad had an autofire option,i would have enough time to make me a sandwich and eat it and the game would not still be done with the whole fight

and that's what completly ruin the game for me,from "average" to "so awfull i can't stop bitching about it" this game was made in 2006,put a fucking skip animation feature or do not waste my time to begin with

i can't believe people think that the paradigm system of FF13 is dull and then tell me this game has "AWESOME GAMEPLAY"

oh also i forgot this,i'm going to glare at oscar for comparing me to amir0x

Blue Dragon's battle system and probably overall game quality reflect the time when it came out.  As one of the first real jrpgs this generation it was fun and good and impressive.

Today...it may be a bit less.

I'm pretty bored with all of my games actually. I hope I get the new dashboard update soon so I can go back to playing Ketsui, DFK BL, and DS2X. Don't want to resort to MAME. :-\

I don't think I'm getting burned out, it's just that I haven't had much variety lately. All of the great games I've played since Yakuza 4 have basically been in the same genre: Mushi Futari, Death Smiles, Ketsui, Strania, Bangai-O, etc etc. I just need something different that I can really get into (was hoping to get LA Noire, but gamefly sucks).

So I guess I'll start some JRPG I've been putting off. Persona 2 seems like a good idea.

Combo Spells didnt really matter to me. I'm about 3/4 in and I used only the starters... then I got the "special" upgrades for answering questions.

Maybe its a huge difference in EP...

here's the reason why you should spam combo spell in EP
spoiler (click to show/hide)
everytime you do a combo spell there is a small chance (i don't know how big it is) that your persona will get a mutation this translate into one of these thing

1. free stat point
2. free rank up
3. the persona learns a 9th hidden skill that you can't learn otherwise
4. the persona can transform into a persona of the special "suit" family which are otherwise unobtainable

some of the combo spells are also incredibly overpowered, after you learn the one with the "maha" stuff in it,every fight becomes just a matter of casting the combo spell involving it
oh also always in regard with my EP experience... playing with a faq might also be a good idea... there's a SHITLOAD of missable stuff
