Red Faction is $40 at KMart next week. I'm picking it up for $20 after using my LA Noire coupon.

You can get a wall charger usb hub to plug your usb things into at night for a pittance guys

Doesnt work

I want my shit to be topped off all the time like my xbox, i dont want to have to leave my laptop or ps3 powered on in order to avoid gaming with a tether.

certain wall chargers work.  the universal one I have doesn't, and I think it requires a data connection in addition to the power one.  PC and PS3 recognize it as a device.

-Updated the 3DS firmware and downloaded Shantae, Link's Awakening, and Excitebike (free).  Shantae seems all right so far.  Link's Awakening looks kinda shitty on the 3DS screen (too blurry) and running it at the original resolution makes it too damn small.  Not sure if I'm gonna bother with more virtual console games.  Excitebike is...Excitebike.  The 3D effect is pretty cool, but I wouldn't buy this.  Will definitely get other NES games if they take classics like SMB, Mega Man 2, and the like and give them this treatment though.

-SSF4 Arcade Edition: The update is here and 3/4 of the added characters are pretty cool.  Evil Ryu is...ZZZzzz but I don't play Ryu anyway.  The changes made to this update have really made some characters a hell of a lot better than before, IMO.  I had a hard time against Gief, Guy, and even a Hakan player, whereas that wouldn't have happened in the regular SSF4.  Good stuff, looking forward to getting back into SSF4 big time again.

-Mortal Kombat: There was a 3MB update, but it didn't seem to affect the online play.   :-\  Played a couple of matches, got the typical rage quits/hatemail, and went back to Street Fighter.

You still get wins when someone rage quits in MK, right? I love getting hate mail though. I cherish every one of them.

Need to get SF4AE too. Gotta try out Dee Jay and see if he's finally worth using.

Goddamn? That fast? Just one playthrough? Is this from going through the story or was it extra shit? I should rent this. What are some other easy 1000's?

Deadly Premonition

This game is so JAPANESE. :lol I love it. I'm not sure if it should be taken seriously or what. At one moment you have a serious homicide investigation, the next moment you have a chess puzzle to solve, and then the music goes from ominous to upbeat jazz at moment's haste. :lol Between that and the main character who talks to himself and refers to himself in third person, this game is absolutely bananas.

It's like Twin Peaks meets Silent Hill. I'm really enjoying it.

Easy 1000s are usually in little kid games... dont be that guy, Himu. Just stick to the games you enjoy playing or have a passing interest in.

I stopped doing that when I realised I rented "Pimp My Ride"

And Prince of Persia is indeed a pretty decent game. And speaking of easy 1000s, I just got Wanted from Gamefly. I think I'm gonna marathon LA Noire and Wanted all day today and tomorrow. Gotta get these back before Duke and Alice are out... or if I'm slow with one of them I guess I can wait for Shadows of the Damned the following week.

i'm halfway thru chapter 2 and still trying to decide if i like this or not.  on the one hand the cutscenes and atmosphere are hilariously japanese and are as entertaining as they are embarrassing.  on the other hand the gameplay is total shit, with tedious and overly long levels with huge amouts of downtime in between.  the downtime is actually the worst part because they give you this big town with jack shit to do in it.  most of the time people don't want to talk to you, there aren't really any mini games or worthwhile things to find, and the quests are all short & shitty.  also the town is just way to fuckin big with tons of empty space.

but every time i start to feel like quitting the game gives me a little nostalgia chubb from its quirkyness and i end up pressing on.

yep, one playthrough.

theres a bunch of combat based achievements to be mindful of but if you read a guide it will detail the best points in the game to pick them up.

There are 21 sarcophogai to smash in the game, so use a guide for those as a couple are easy to miss.

Theres an achievement for beating the boss in the Throne Room without getting hit, just use the Stone Armor upgrade for invincibility and you can reload the checkpoint if you get hit.

All other cheevs you get for playing the game. Eaaassssy 1000, and a decent, fun game too.

Now I'm onto Split/Second

Finished my first run of Wanted. That game is not good. But it's not too bad either - it's just a really standard cover based TPS with a gimmick and almost no content. Seriously, the game is 3 hours long, there are two weapons, and like 4 different enemies. And the final act is just copy+paste level design over and over. So yeah, not a good game. I'd give it a 4/10. If I had payed $60 for this, it would be a 1/10.

That SR3 gameplay footage makes me want to pick back up SR2.  I played an hour or two but it wasn't anywhere near SR3 crazyiness and so I dropped it back in the day.

It's amazing. Every mission is different, the variety is insane, the writing is great and some of the gang wars are pure insanity (Brotherhood). Better written and paced than any rockstar game. It's a blast. If you want a co-op partner just holler.

Re: PS3 charging
« Reply #12091 on: June 10, 2011, 01:10:58 AM »
Yes

Thanks.

After I posted, I went online and found an English-language PS3 manual; it says right there on the page that the console has to be fully on, not in standby mode. It doesn't specifically say, though it should, that only certain other kinds of USB connection will charge the controller.

Apparently not just USB connection, but cable as well? Using the same USB-to-mini-USB cable with which I charge my PSP, I left the controller plugged into my PS3 which I had to leave on for days to download the free Welcome Back games. Neither port produced a charge, though the controller operated while connected. Without it, it would turn off after moments. Even connected, when playing inFamous, the vibration apparently depleted whatever it was receiving from the PS3 connection.

Next I tried an Apple USB charger for two days, NOTHING. I plugged it into a powered USB hub attached to my Mac. No luck. I looked online, and apparently this problem is rampant. Only some chargers work, and the Apple one has been identified as one that doesn't.

I went to the electronics store and purchased same-color DualShock3 with the intent of returning my faulty one. Along with it, I purchased a Sony branded 2.8m USB cable so I could play while charging the new controller.

Just for kicks, I tried my faulty controller with the new cable, and it worked. ??? How can this cable charge my Sony PSP but not my Sony Controller? I am confused.

Beat Saints Row 2 story mode, time to finish off all the activities on the side while playing Deadly Premonition.

How did you like the last mission in Saints Row 2? I have a friend who's no slouch gamer, but he walked away from the game with that mission sending a heat-seeking missile at him the moment he gets in the choppa.

Last mission was okay but confusing because of the security shit. Was confusing finding all the security locations on the building at first, but after that, easy. I just rocketed him.

The Julius mission is far more difficult and the hardest mission in the game.

Bebpo, let's play SR2 co-op tomorrow and I'll give you a primer in getting the most out of SR2 with just a few simple steps:

- infinite sprint
- no damage from falling at any height
- shops, particularly Let's Pretend

Currently my Boss is a spaceman with a deep sea helmet on and her customization outfit for this is called SPAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACE. Also, by taking out the Brotherhood first (the best gang story anyways) you learn their fighting style first and their fighting style is nothing but wrestling moves. So you can body slam and shit in SR2, it's just that it won't look nearly as fly as it does in SR3 because in order to do it, you have to do a three hit combo.

In any case, we can get you started in a night.

Let's play this weekend.

so since i have no idea where to go next,i see a new location with a new boss and decides to go there and....

i now remember why i never got around to play with it >:(
seriously would it be too much to ask to at least tell me which level have paths that i still haven't explored?

well yeah but the structure of the whole thing is really annoying, you take a wrong turn and *BAM* you are now forced to restart the whole level if you want to take the other path, but it's even worse when you consider that you don't even know if THERE IS another path!

and seriously who the heck tought it was a good idea to just put the final boss there randomly on the map without any kind of warning?

anyway replaying tales of vesperia for the speedster achievement is more annoying than i would have tought....

seeing the skit for completing the monster book was worth it though :smug

Has Ryu Ga Gotoku OF THE END been announced for the west yet?

I played the demo of El Shaddai for 360. Game looks beautiful, though the combat was a bit chunky and stiff. Still I'd probably just get for the art, WOW.

Also played a bit of Blocks That Matter on XBLIG. Pretty cool game, will buy when I get more points.

Yep. It's up for both PS3 and 360.

Hahah this game is ridiculously hilarious.  It's going to really piss off some RGG fans, I think, but whatevs, if you take this shit too seriously you have it coming anyway.

No announcement yet for the west but I'd say it's a lock... it's almost like they designed this to appeal to westerners.  Within the best of their ability, of course.

It's definitely coming next Spring, but it's been a tradition of mine to play through the Japanese version over summer vacation.

Hahahaha first mistake. SR2 ps3 isn't quite as good as SR2 360 if only because no one on ps3 plays SR2 and it's much harder to find co-op partners.

In that case, I can give you a primer via text.

I picked up Fable III since I liked the demo of it. Some of the changes made are stupid as hell and make things more of a hassle to do, but the tory and such is cool. I'm about to head off to Aurora or wherever and the game warned me that i there's crap I wanna do better do it now so I suppose I'll grind sidequest nonsense until I've opened all the chests on the road to rule.

Tip 1: freefall without damage. Jack a copter, if you've already got your base set up it'll have a helipad on top. You can jack a copter at the airport. The airport is here on the lower left part of the map right at the bottom. See that big building?

Go there and you're bound to find a flyable vehicle. If not, use some cheats to spawn one.

Get in your helicopter, fly to your hideout and put it in your garage. In Saints Row, you keep every vehicle that enters your garage. If your vehicle is destroyed it just respawns in your garage good as new. If you alter it at the car shop, it's automatically saved. This way, in case you fail this diversion, you will be able to do this repeatedly without having to go find ANOTHER plane or copter.

Anyways, get a copter out of your garage, fly as HIGH UP AS YOU POSSIBLY CAN, bail out and you'll be in a free fall. Press triangle to open your parachute, and when prompted press triangle to do the base jumping diversion. The goal of this is to land in the red bullseye marked on your map. Holding up while in the chute makes you catch wind. Pressing down makes you stall and go slower. Not holding anything makes you go and normal speed and allows you to turn around and position yourself easily.

Land on the Saints car that's parked in the bullseye. The trick is to look at your stars for doing this trick. In order to get no damage, you have to have three golden stars  while landing in the bullseye. Do that and you get no damage from freefall at any height. Useful because you will fall A LOT in SR2.

Tip #2. Next do the insurance fraud activity in Redlight District. You start out at the Redlight District and the insurance fraud one isn't too far away. Finish all 6 levels of insurance fraud at this location and you get INFINITE SPRINT. It doesn't break the game like you would assume but it makes things ten times less annoying.

Tip #3. You want to do whacky and crazy stuff? Let's start you out at Let's Pretend. For some reason Volition opted to hide Let's Pretend in a weird to find mall location. In order to get to the mall, go to the north island and then the Downtown retail area. There's a section called Nob Hill. See that white square thing on the map? THAT'S the mall. This location is just a block away from the Downtown Condo.

Find the entrance to the mall. You take an elevator up into the Ultor Retail Mall.

Find the shop Let's Pretend. There's another good shop too called I Hate Myself for people want to dress up as a depressed emo.

At Let's Pretend you can find doozies such as this:

rep0Pq3l9aU

Go to other stores located on the map to see what works for you.

This yt should show you how to get to Let's Pretend:

Tip #4. Which gang do you start out with? It doesn't really matter, but most think Samedi -> Ronin -> Brotherhood is the best in regards to narrative and story, and I agree, but Brotherhood is the best one and also the HARDEST gang so I suggest going with them first. When you beat Brotherhood you get their fighting style, which are nothing but wrestling moves.

Coupled with infinite sprnit, no damage from falling, endless customization options from all the shops and wrestling moves in your repertoire you should find Saints Row 2 to be  a pretty fucking crazy game. The only difference is that you have to WORK to make the crazy in SR2, SR3 this isn't really the case.

Just be warned, Mr. Gundam, this isn't the usual RGG gameplay.  It's structured very differently from every RGG game so far.  I think you'll be fine, though.

What's different about it? I tried the demo and it seemed more like a straight-forward action game.

aaaaand finished fable 3. Jumping from day 121 to apocalypse time is balls like everyone else who's already played has noted. Saved more than half the populace, lost the stupid desert people despite building them a defense outpost, blahdidy blah. Maybe I'll do another run or two or maybe I'll just trade the stupid thing in.  ::)

What's different about it? I tried the demo and it seemed more like a straight-forward action game.

When you're in the action stages, you're in action stages.  All shooting, nothing else.  When you're out, you're out.  No random battles.  No chance fights while running around the "safe" parts of Kamurocho.  It ends up feeling like you're going through linear action stages and then between them you have breaks to fuck around if you want.

Cool. That doesn't sound bad at all.

Got 175m with the Type A ship in Akai Katan Zetsu mode. I love this game - it's so damn good. Only got a few nitpick complaints: Will Cave EVER fucking learn that quick restarts are extremely convenient? In Ketsui, DOJBL, and Raiden Fighters, you can hit start and then back and the game restarts IMMEDIATELY. I hate dropping out to the main menu in order to restart a run. And the only other thing that kinda bothers me is that the end of stage bonus is HUGE. Like, it's worth half of your score for each stage. That's kinda over the top.

I'm not really feeling Shin mode yet, but I'm sure I'll like it more once I'm more familiar with the layouts of each stage. The scoring system seems really good once you know what you're doing. Watching videos kinda reminds me of Futari Maniac, ie. you build up your meters and cash it in on the sweet spots for massive points.

edit: up to 246m now. This fucking game :bow

Easily a GOTY contender alongside Muchi Muchi Pork and (probably) Dark Souls.

Installing RGG Of the End right now, nice that it actually gives you character bios and updates while it does it's thing.

The #1 guy in Zetsu mode has 1.5 billion, which is over 2x the 2nd place score I think. What the fuck. I need to watch his replay (if he uploaded it) and get ready for my mind to be blown.

I'm getting better though. I played the other two characters, and oddly enough I got 246-249m with everyone, all ending on the stage 5 boss. I guess all of the ships must be balanced extremely well. At least I'm ranked #9 with the Type B ship; I'm happy about that because I'm still new to the game.

Now to play LA Noire. :-\
