Just Cause 1 is more impressive when you remember it was a PS2 game that got a cheap-o 360 update like Gun or Far Cry Instincts

compared to JC2, the only thing JC1 does better is more horizontal movement whilst skydiving.  JC3 needs a wingsuit.

I thought it was a 360 game that got a killer PS2 downgrade when they were realizing how a 360-only game would be limited in sales.

Graphics-wise, it's pretty crazy-good, all things considered.

I'm not sure.  I think the PC version is based on the PS2/Xbox version, which usually means it was developed for those first.

I might be mixing it up with Mercenaries 2 (what a disappointment)

Just Cause 1 PC is PS2 port
Just Cause 1 X360 is home grown beauty

Also I'm deleting game install data to free up some space (because I'm a sucker and bought RE4 again) and wtf I've been "deleting" Resistance 3 for 10 mins now.  Getting a little worried!

Great, PS3 froze trying to delete R3 and now it's showing up as corrupted data and I can't seem to delete it.  Stupid game.

Almost done with the Racer career in NFS HP.  Man, this game has the best weather/time of day in a racer.  You can play the same area twice and it's like completely different tracks.  I did this race in the middle of the night, wet track, rain and lightning, only 10-20 feet visibility.  Was epic!  Incredibly tense driving at 150mph looking out for traffic to pop out ahead of you any minute and give you only a moment to react.  Then I did this track that was ALL FREEWAY.  Just giant wide straights through colored lighting tunnels at 200mph.  Felt nothing like any other race in the game, no hairpin turns or elevation or mountains/forests.  Just gigantic roads.

The only way NFS HP could have been any better (and thus a perfect game) is if it had a better photo mode and this game SCREAMS for a race editor like PGR.  I mean the entire game is Criterion taking this sandbox world and picking a start point, end point, type of event, time of day, type of track (slick, normal), and weather and hitting GO.  There's no reason they couldn't let players do that as well and race home-made tracks with their friends.  I'm guessing the only reason that's not in there is so they could sell you more "tracks" by DLC by doing it themselves.  Still, despite those it's up there with Burnout Paradise and the PGRs as the best arcade racers this gen.  Criterion & Bizarre are incredible racing developers.  Too bad Bizarre is gone now and Criterion takes 3 years a game :(

Probably won't bother finishing the Cop career after I finish Racer.  Cop is a fun gimmick of hitting people like Burnout-lite, but eh, wasn't huge on it and it seemed frustrating.  Outside of the one Hot Pursuit race I was stuck on for weeks, Racer career has not been frustrating at all.  Very doable, though the final races could change my opinion on it.

Some pics I took:

Pictures really do not do this game justice.  It looks so nice in motion thanks to the post-processing effects.

I just started NIER finally...

magus/scenester/etc - How much corners do I have to cut to hit 15 hrs?

yeah, just rip through the main story missions an you'll get under 15 no prob. I finished the game in about 11 hours on my first run. After that you'll need to play the game a couple more times for all the endings, and to grind out all the achievements.

It's a relatively easy 950/1000, its just the weapon upgrade cheevs add and extra 15 hours of grinding.

The dlc has a spot where lots of rare items drop, so you may want to get that also. The dlc is a lil' boring, but the remixed soundtracks make up for it!

I read u can skip those quests and just buy some guide that allows gardening anyway.

I at least want to watch any story cutscenes that occur.

Also when is a good time to go for sheep achievement?

doing those quest give you a bigger garden which makes it easier to use it,as far as i know there is no other way to get it

for the sheep achievement,as soon as you can 1-hit them it's probably good, kill 100 of them, get the achievement and then reload your save so you don't lose time for the 15 hours one

During the gen transition a few PC games suffered from being ported from the PS2 rather than the X360/PS3 gen versions.  Tomb Raider Legend for instance.  Gun was recently brought up as one in the steam thread.  There's at least a half dozen where the superior version will always be the X360 version even though PC games are what will stand the test of time in terms of availability.

I think Tomb Raider Legends PC includes Xbox 360 graphics as an option

The worst cases are Rayman 2 and Soul Reaver.  Both PC versions are based on the PS1 releases, but both received considerable upgrades for the Dreamcast.  The best version of both games are still the Dreamcast versions.

Recently, Beyond Good and Evil HD on the 360 (maybe PS3?) is the best version of that game.  PC version lacks proper widescreen, controller support and is just a messy port.

And then there was the infamous Spider-Man 2 debacle, where instead of porting the PS2/Xbox version, they made an entirely different game that was worse in every possible way, for reasons that still remain a mystery.

finding I have a  very large weakness fo euro jank rpg's. I thought it was just a phase...at least I am strong enough to wait for sales for the most part...they are what they are (and rarely justify full price).

I'm getting hooked on Gears 3 multiplayer. Didn't think this would happen as I was completely apathetic towards Gears 2 multiplayer.

Have a feeling it's gonna be one of my top games of the year. Wouldn't of said that a week before its release.

Yeah, I think it's Harley, Ivy, and then near-ish a finale.

Also, if you're going for Trophies or Achievements, the next time you have a chance to fight 20 guys who are leaving you alone, you should just do it.

This week i'm playing:

Two Worlds II + Expansion: Not sure how much the new stuff affects the first story, but im giving this another go. I think ive got a better attitude this time around. After jrpging with persona 4 for so long its good to play an euro rpg....for some strange reason.

X-Men: Destiny: As bad as it looked- Achievements fall from the sky though so whatever. Calling this an RPG is soo very generous.

Kirby Mass Attack: Halfway through this one- challenge ramps up a bit near the end of World 2, so im looking forward to Worlds 3 and 4. Really the only handheld game i'm messing with right now.

Dynasty Warriors Gundam 3: Broke this out again a few days ago- fun stuff.

Zelda Four Swords 25th Anniversary thing

The GBA game with rudimentary single player controls.  unlike the Gamecube version with its formations and whatnot, you can only either switch between two Links or have one follow the other, who performs co-op actions automatically.  Randomized levels, arcade style.

It's free and available for a limited time.  If you have a DSi, 3DS or DSi XL, you should go online (on a nintendo system?! brave new world) and download it.

I'm playing on the DSi XL and it's actually a bit uncomfortable for traditional games because the d-pad is super stiff and it really large and blocky.  Really great for touch screen games.
