XL Engine is really cool but I wish they'd release the next build which is supposed to fix the bug that's impeding my progress in Dark Forces. Game is way good.

Currently replaying Grandia. Still one of my favorite RPGs, even though the dungeons are pretty crappy.

I gave up on this game when it was fucking frustrating to avoid the ghosts, then having to re-do entire sections. DOUBLE PASS
I like its atmosphere and the concept, but yeah the gameplay in the adventure segments is pretty bad and the visual novel parts are very poorly written. Too bad.

grandia plot bothers me like no one... some bits of it feel so forced, for example the protagonist acts like a distinguished mentally-challenged kids and then the badass action heroine comes and falls in love with him just because that's what jrpg trope requires but it make no sense,it would be like if indiana jones fell in love with dora the explorer

I've always found the love story to be awkward too. The way its presented in the game, Justin is but a small kid while Feena seems more or less like grown-up woman. And then you look up the profiles of the characters and realize: Justin is supposed to be 14 and Feena merely 15. It's like the developers realized the awkwardness of the love story not until the game was finished and tried to make it less awkward that way :lol

Anyway, I like its upbeat atmosphere and the general story. I think no other (J)RPG nailed the "lost civilization" setting as good as Grandia did back in the day.

Meh, BlazBlue is borderline dead online (360). There's like five people playing, and they all live 60000 miles away so it's laggy as shit. Guess I'll pick up SFxT and see if that sticks.

I think an RPG relationship where the young, naive shounen type hero falls in love with an older, more experienced woman who "shows him the ropes" would be a cool idea if fleshed out more...

Not really, my best friend has been lately though (he's 31 and his girlfriend is 46 - which is weird because he was always a bit of an ephebophile). Most of my long term relationships have been with girls -3 to +3 years from me.

i gave a spin to asura's wrath since i wanted to play a... you know,a game that's not a sequel to anything or stuff like that... i played up to stage 5 and it's kinda hard to judge,on one hand it is HEAVILY cutscene featured, like there are 5 (maybe even more) minutes of cutscene for each 1 minute of gameplay and actualy when you have to retry a level,it takes longer to skip all the cutscene (because they were distinguished mentally-challenged and skipping a cutscene don't put you into the next gameplay segment but throw you at the next cutscene, and of course you can't skip cutscene with QTE) than playing the actual game

and on the other, those cutscene's are totaly badass, the game open with a huge space battle between what can be described as cyber buddhist who have watched too many episode of dragon ball z versus size planet squids from hell, there are explosion, chorus music's and enough screaming people to make your average shounen anime blush, actualy i think this would be a perfect fit for anyone who digs that kind of anime especialy because the game wallow in the idea of being a shounen anime, each stage is separated in 2 parts which are separated by a gurren lagan style stillshot and each time you finish a stage, you get a "TO BE CONTINUED" and a preview of the next stage :lol

so anyway, how does it play... there are basicaly 2 mode of plays, the first is basicaly rail-on shooting, stage 1 and 5 for example play like that, you got a lock-on shot, direct blasts and you can dash around the screen, the second is more like your average 3D action game, you got a combo attack and an heavy attack, the heavy attack push all the enemies far from you but you can only pull one every once in a while so you can't abuse it,you also got an air kick and a dash attack which can down enemies, downed enemies can be killed in one shot with a heavy attack which makes them fly all over the stage, quite funny too watch :lol

you can also counter attack,as you get attacked there is a chance for the game to go like "PRESS Y LIKE RIGHT NOW" no fancy counter button or stick waggling like bayonetta here, you also have a rage bar which increase as you fight which make you stronger for a while and let you pull off heavy attack without the need to cooldown during the duration of it

one of the amusing thing of the game is that the enemies don't have any health, instead as you fight you fill a bar, when the bar is full you press a button and go into QTE mode, and after the QTE the stage end, some QTE go for a loooooooooooooooong time, this might sound horrible but the game gives ample warnings about what you need to do and failing one just decrease your score so it's not like resident evil "WHOOPS A ZOMBIE JUMPED ON YOU AND YOU PRESSED THE WRONG BUTTON AND NOW YOU ARE DEAD"

at the end of the stage you get scored for time, damage done and how well you did with the QTE,you also get to unlock bio's about character and concept art, there are also manga-like interlude between each stages which are quite beatifull to look at

so short version,i guess anime bore would enjoy this, that creepy old guy? not so much

Started playing AC Rev because of AC3 announcement.  Definitely enjoying it even if it's just more of the same.  Every since they turned AC into a money economy/collectathon it's become very addicting.  So fun going around and buying up all the properties, finding all the hidden treasures/feathers, sending your assassin's off to complete all the missions.  Even though it's all just collectible padding and should be looked down on, it's still fun.  But doing it a 3rd time now (AC2 -> B -> Rev), I definitely don't know how many more times I'd be into this; glad AC3 will change it up.

Played FF13-2 a little more. The game isn't terrible, but it's pretty boring becase the story and characters suck and the battles are completely unengaging, so I sent it back to gamefly so I can get Ninja Gaiden 3 when that comes out.

Street Fighter X Tekken is pretty great as well, which really surprised me. I though it might be kinda terrible because of all of the gem nonsense, but it doesn't seem to be much of an issue, and the online play is fantastic. I've only been playing the SF characters though because I don't want to put effort into learning the Tekken guys. :-[

Played some RAGE. Game is pretty, but why did ey opt for semi freefom and fetch quests. Maybe this will change though.

Also played a 2 hour sc2 match that I won in the end but I could hsve finished sooner if I showed some balls!

playing more of asura's wrath and reached stage 12,apparently the game is quite short,i reached stage 10 in just an evening and the whole game is only 18 stages long, even still i'm really annoyed that the internet isn't talking more about this game,i've seen worse style over substance games (*COFF COFF* NO MORE HEROES *COFF COFF*) and this one features a fight on the moon under the tune of this

is it because it's not a wii exclusive that nobody cares? do they have to put some idiot at the helm before anyone gives a fuck? :(
actualy i seems to understand that there was a demo featuring stage 5 and stage 11? that's funny cause those are the two biggest action scenes of the game, they gave out the best parts :lol

I care about Asura's Wrath!  But since I don't  :pirate like you, I can't justify $60 on a 6 hour interactive anime game :P  Like Binary Domain, I'll pick this one up at $20 in the fall/xmas season.

Played some RAGE. Game is pretty, but why did ey opt for semi freefom and fetch quests. Maybe this will change though.

Skip all the sidequests and exploring.  Just speedrun the main game and it's fun stuff.  There's nothing out there to explore and the optional stuff all sucks ass.  As a linear FPS it's gorgeous looking, has good combat, and is just the right length.  Worth sticking with.

I think the characters are the best part about Grandia's story, cliched love story aside. The sense of adventure has remain untapped in jRPGs besides Skies of Arcadia five years later. Xenoblade tries, I guess.

Why? It's better than Grandia and its ilk. I can appreciate a coming of age story with the rest of them but Xenoblade is great. It's not really a coming of age / adventure story either.

Robots rape the shit out of your village and you want fucking revenge with your big laser sword.

I don't like Xenoblade more than the original Grandia, and I attribute that to nostalgia.

AC Rev

The fact that everytime you buy a property, your notoriety goes up 25%, and that your notoriety actually matters in this one because once it's full you can get stuck doing TOWER DEFENSE...is pretty shitty.  Now everytime I buy 3 properties I have to spend the next 5 mins bribing street people to lower my notoriety back down.  Totally pointless and waste of time.

Also the full sync no-detect stealth missions for a few of them are pretty annoying, especially since they pretty much force you to use bomb distractions, but I never use them because the bomb system is pretty meh.

Like the game otherwise.  Ezio is still cool.  Climbing stuff is still fun.

I've been cheev grindin/huntin in Samurai Warriors Empires 2 of all things. Getting the battle of Osaka or whatever its called is a distinguished mentally-challenged pain in the ass. The few others I have left to get seem fairly simple in comparison. Maybe I'll find something cool and cheap to distrac myself further while waiting for WO3 since it got pushed a week.

Been playing DOJBL a lot over the last two days, since I really want to get a good score and move on from this game. Three times now (edit: make that four) I have had good runs, no missing up to 1-5 with 220-250m points with five hypers in stock, but every time I've managed to fuck up my 1-5 chain and/or die to random stuff. Either that, or I screw up the first 4 stages pretty badly and go on to perfect the final stage.

I'm dying for that one great run where everything goes as planned. :'(

Wasteland 2 talk got me in the mood to go back and play Fallout 2 again. I got quite far once before, but never did beat it, felt a bit too much like Fallout 1 and I just come off a run through of that. Right now, though, I'm ready to jump back in and wallow in a big 'ol pile of nostalgia.

i finished asura's wrath, you know most people says "hur dur it's just an interactive anime" but i can't really brings myself to dislike the game,it's just so kickass, the boss fight especialy are really neat and since the game spends all his time between cutscenes and important fights they all come mashed close to each other and there is never a dull moment

it's a really short game, there are only 18 stages (tough there is a gimmick where they force you to replay the last stage twice, which is annoying because the final boss is like the only troubling fight, you do get an achievement for getting a game over... THE GAME IS SO EASY GETTING A GAME OVER IS HARD!) and at top each one can last 15 minutes at best,i talled the time the game itself calculated for ranking and i would have finished under 1 hour and half assuming i skipped all the cutscenes,i think the game has more cutscenes than actual game :lol

after finishing the game there is still stuff to do if you are an achievement whore like me,you get an achievement for S ranking every stage on both hard and normal and some other achievements for playing trough the game all over again under special condition (like being unable to see your health bar and having half the health) it's not like the game isn't quite generous on achievement points anyway tough... you get like 500 of them just for finishing the game normaly without any string attached

i'm still amazed they decided to pick stage 5 and stage 11 for the demo, because those are the best part,it would be like if they shipped a ZOE2 demo featuring that huge final battle at the end,if you didn't like the demo i don't think the rest of the game will do much for you

Mainly playing:

Assassin's Creed Revalations - Like the city and the main story.  Going around 100%-ing all the sidestuff is kind of chore-ish in this one though and I'm at that point now before I continue on in the plot, so it's kind of zzz, read a book while doing it, moment.  Then it'll be fun again when I get back to the main plot.  Also not looking forward to doing all the Desmond FPS adventures as the first one was kind of looong and not that good.

Silent Hill Downpour - Very early, but enjoying as a Silent Hill fan.  Seems more like SH2 and less like the other SH games (exploration based).

Gundam G Generation World - Still playing this on the can.  About 30+ hours in now and almost 3/4ths through.  Solid srpg with no story and lots of gundam mechs instead.

Everything else is on pause until I clear some of those.  Though my cutoff date for any game is March 31st, which is when I get Kingdom Hearts 3D and then I drop everything that isn't that and then play Super Robot Wars Z2-2 directly after since it comes out the following week.  Basically have April blocked off of gaming for just those two games.

Oh and I finally went back to Syberia and finished it. Awesome but sudden ending. Need to play the sequel.

I played Stacking and the DLC for it to 250/250 gamerscore. It was swell! The camera made me a little pukey though. The visuals are some of the best on XBLA.

you know i said lot of nice things about asura's wrath, but having to replay the game over and over and over for the 1000 is an incredible chore,i'm not sure why developers don't get that,it's like there is always a chorish achievement that require you to replay the game

at least playing with decreased health makes the game more interessing, enemies can often deal half of your health bar in a single blow and this is by playing on easy,i guess that if you really wanted to squeeze a challenge out of the game you could play with decreased health on hard

That's why you're not supposed to care about getting all the achievements.

I've beaten like 70 PS3 games over the last 5-6 years.  I don't have a single platinum trophy (although I did get 100% of the trophies on Williams Hall of Fame Pinball but they didn't include a platinum for it on PS3 :( ).  And the only X360 1000s I have are from launch games when it took like 2 hours to get 1000/1000 in a game because they had 5 easy achievements worth 200 points each.

I love achievements/trophies and I try to get as many as I can.  But that's just it.  I try to get as many as I can in my normal playthrough of enjoying the game.  When I'm done enjoying the game I stop playing.  Usually I just compare my trophies/achievements on a game with my friends and most people just get whatever they can in 1 playthrough so it's not that hard to get like 1 more point than them leaderboard style.

Been playing Tales of the Abyss 3DS. Trying to knock it out as fast as possible. Battle system is alright, but not great (about 20 hrs in). Pretty sure I hate all the characters which is a bummer since I kinda like the overall story.

finished my 3rd run of asura's wrath with decreased health mode, after you finish that, you get a mode that gives you infinite super mode which let you stunlock every enemy in the game forever,so in a weird twist playing easy was harder than playing hard :lol
at least i only need 1 last run for the 1000/1000

anyway i found this review,i don't think you'll find a more correct review about the game, fuck ign and gamespot

http://angryjoeshow.com/2012/02/asuras-wrath-angry-review/

if asura's wrath has to count just as an anime, then it's the best MANIME you are going to watch in 2012,it's either that or more :uguu

DQIX owns

DQIX also includes additional maps and dlc. So that number comes as skewed.

Yes, you could potentially keep playing DQIX, but the single player story campaign is fine, and this is mostly in regards to the post-game.

Borys, you're a Wizardry fan. Play Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey after DQIX and bow down to your savior. SMT > FF

the grottoes in DQ9 are super boring, there might be like a bajillion of possible grotto combination but there are only like 5 grotto bosses and they aren't anything worth writing home about

another annoying thing in DQ9 are the legacy bosses, basicaly the game features all the other final bosses from previous dragon quest games, from the dragonlord to the fat demon of DQ9 but when you fight them, they start super weak and get a level up every time you defeat them... after around 30-40 level ups they drop some sort of powered up items, that means you have to defeat them around 30-40 times to get a reward out of it and that's assuming you do get the drop

do you see why it now takes all those hours to 100% the game?
