Drakan - Order of Flame
I wanted to play this for ages and now I did. Well, for its time it must have been pretty good, but Ocarina of Time came out a year before and did everything better, from combat to dungeons and dare I say looks? Drakan has you riding a dragon through gigantic, almost seamless levels, which beats riding a horse, but it's a pretty shallow game all around. Combat seemed broken, too. Could have been bugged out due to me playing it on a modern system, or it could have been just really strict timing on the inputs. Either way, I could never do it consistenly so I beat most enemies by circle-strafing, abusing their slow turn speed. A tiny minority I shot with a bow. Felt silly but not boring, as your character is quite fragile, even in armour. The boss fights were a joke though and the dungeons aren't worth mentioning, though they were fairly varied for what they were.
The biggest obstacle in the game came in the form of a button that I had overlooked, trapping my dragon on the other side of a gate. I stubbornly wasted my time trying to clear the area, which I was obviously supposed to be tearing through on my dragon. I just though the game got tougher. Turrets? Whatever, serpentine, we got this. Flying hellbeasts I can't beat on foot? Seems excessive, but OK, just gotta find the lever that let's my dragon catch up and then they're toast. ...Turns out the button was right next to the gate. orz
