i got an old 360 so fingers crossed. I'm in the mood to  run thru all four of these games again. it's a real shame the series didn't catch on more or find a way to keep up with current trends, because the lore/presentation was so unique. i would lovvvvve a follow up to saga but there's about a 0.000000% chance of that ever happening :(

Bought Setsuna yesterday and put in about an hour... just beat the first boss (giant bird terrorizing the town). It seems pretty good and graphically, it looks better in person than the videos. Things run very smoothly, battles are quick and responsive (battle system is basically CT). The piano music and snowy atmosphere is nice but people say that the lack of variety in these 2 parts gets a bit old, and I'm worried I'll feel the same way, since part of what I enjoy so much about RPGs is the diverse environments you'll travel to.

I find the music very repetitive and uninspired, and the combat system feels clunky, It is pretty though.

What about the combat system do you find clunky? ATB bars seem to fill up a tad slower than I want, but the attacks get pulled off rather quickly, the transition into and out of battle is seamless, and single encounters don't seem to take too long. Maybe it's because the last few RPGs I've played were BOF4 (really slow paced battles) and Star Ocean 5 (really confusing battles), that a nice simple CT clone with minimal load times/delays doesn't feel bad.

The ATB bar is to slow, I don't like the fact that you have to wait before entering a battle for the enemy to position itself.

Finished Knack, cute game that went on for far too long. Also hilariously serious for a mascot game. Knack also is voiced by a black porn star. Played on "hard" difficulty - constant one hit kills.

Finished Trails in the Sky SC - way better than garbage FC. Feeling horny to play Cold Steel but decided to play Bravely Second instead.

Panzer Dragoon not continuing as a series is one of the absolute worst things Sega ever did, and Sega did a lot of bad things. Crimson Dragon just couldn't cut it as a spiritual successor, either.

Orta was one hell of a game to go out on, though.

Panzer Dragoon VR was on display at Kyoto's BitSummit this year. There was a line, and I didn't have time to play, but response seemed favorable.

Finally finished Final Fantasy XIV's main story quests, and now I'm on the Heavensward expansion! Shit went down man. Finally got to the place I need to become a Machinist and it's a pretty fun DSP class so far. Still getting the hang of it, but it's surprisingly easy to learn despite giving you a billion of moves at the start.

woooo Heavensward is glorious. like seriously fucking amazing from top to bottom. have fun!

I'm getting back into the game tomorrow when the start the next free login period. i play from the beginning all the way to the end of 3.2,then got bored when there were no more quests.  but with the 3.3 patch and the yo-kai tie-in i can't resist anymore. i hope to God they release a new expansion pack in 2017 tho because I'm dying to get back into the game hardcore.

I have a PS4 now. Let's talk FF14. Everyone says its super fun story and such.

- How much cost?
- Realistic solo play?
- Is there LFG? Do I have to play to a meta?
- How much grind?
- How much content can I NOT do if I join in now (expired content)

Compare it to Destiny if you want.

-i think the cheapest sub is $11. might be 14
-only multi you need is for dungeons. after you unlock a dungeon, you choose it on a list and it puts you in a queue til you get yr team matched up
-you can start your own party, and it'll out you on a browseable(?) list. you can define exactly what types of party members you want, state what your objective is, whatever. very customizable and easy to use
-very little. if you do the side quests in towns you'll get more than enough exp, and even without them there's plenty to do to gain exp. levels come very fast in the main story
-only content i found was impossible to queue into was the super dungeon from the base game, called the coil of bahamut. it's still very hard to do so you'll prolly have to go outside of the game to put together a party that'll work thru it. if you end up liking the game it's definitely worth doing bc it's got a good story that's important to the lore. otherwise everything is still easily accessible, though you might have to wait till peak hours to do some of the other optional dungeons

also if you can get onto hyperion server do that bc that's where all the cool bore ppl are (and also it's a heavily populated server)

Did a bunch of C-Team's fragments in Zero Time Dilemma. The "Escape the Room" sequences in this definitely seem easier than in Virtue's Last Reward (though more challenging than 999). I like how Junpei turned into a bit of an emo dickhead in this.

Reached a bit of an impasse in C-Team so I figure I'll have to play some of the other teams' fragments now.

Still really enjoying Might and Magic X. But I am somewhat surprised by how small the world is. Really it's not that big. I seem to remember prior iterations being rather large.

I'm also interested in FF14, but I don't like the idea of paying full price for a game then a sub. Either give me the game for free and charge me a sub or have me pay for the game and don't have a sub. It's 2016.

Might & Magic X is a 40+ hour game and once I completed it I immediately wanted to replay it with a different party. There is a DLC pack with two extra dungeons but I never got around trying it out.

Almost done with Super Robot Wars OGs: The Moon Dwellers.  SRW games have this pattern of being an exciting srpg for the first 15 stages, then a boring srpg for about 30 stages, then an exciting srpg for the last 15 stages.  Was barely making it through a map or two a week in the middle, but did like 7 or 8 maps straight tonight being in endgame.  Story's exciting, mechs are cool, probably finish it by the end of the weekend.  Still not sure if I'll recommend the english language version which comes out in a week to SRW Newbies, but maybe, I'll see how good the last maps are.

agreed that paying for the game + sub price is total bullshit. but the base game is only $20 when not on sale, and you don't have to pay a sub price for the first month. if you download the demo you get to play for two weeks anyway, so you can basically get six weeks with no sub fee. makes the initial purchase easier to swallow.

It has been really easy not killing anyone (besides the bosses) in Deus ex HR:Director's cut

Can imagine the first boss being a pain without the new hacking options but by the time I beat the second I had so many augs it didn't matter how I played it

Cloaking has made sneaking a breeze even with only two energy bars

Started System Shock 2 and it turns out it's not actually that scary. Or maybe I'm just less of a wuss now, not sure. I'm going for Psi-Powers, because that seems most interesting. The intro also immediately turned me off of Soldier, because it reminded me that weapon degradation is a thing in this game. I'd rather keep my Psi-Energy topped up than deal with that.

And I still haven't given up on Final Fantasy, despite it being really grindy. I can only play it while watching streams or Youtube videos. Not sure why I keep going, to be honest.

I spent all weekend playing Bravely Second, finishing it at around 3 in the morning ROFL

I might prefer the first game overall. The second is pretty broken with the new "Spellcraft" ability. I'm pretty sure I did absolutely zero physical attacks. The last unlockable job is disgusting too.

The game's "twist" isnt really as cool, and in fact pretty damn confusing. It goes straight 4th wall apeshit for the final fight too (lots of comparison to Undertale?). Last boss was a cakewalk (because of said broken jobs).

The music is pretty good too. Some choice ones:

Standard Boss Fight

Anne Fight

Final Boss

It's super easy to grind in this game too, and there are some choice spots that make it mindnumbingly easy.

Decided to mess with Codename STEAM -- this game is pretty cheap these days. You can get a new copy for ~$10 at most stores...

Codename STEAM was boring. Even when using a walkthrough turn by turn.

Went back to the Vita, where I can get laid on the daily again.

Steamworld Dig - cute game.

Nova-111 - basic game that feels rogue-likeish, but pretty simple so far. Not bad game.

Finished System Shock 2. Holds up pretty well. Psi turned out to be kind of meh. My Psi use went down once I got the crystal shard, and then even more once I could use the grenade launcher. I could use it to buff myself, but that wasn't necessary on normal. The most impactful thing it let me do was to turn excess ammo into money. And clearing out those eggs, I suppose.

I've really enjoyed Tokyo Mirage Sessions, but as soon as I started doing 6-7 sessions on each attack the gameplay slowed to a crawl. It doesn't particularly help that the session attacks get longer as they get better. Then you start doing 10-20 session chains and I start finding other things to do while they play out.

Not having some kind of "okay that's enough" setting to squash these attacks is a pretty egregious oversight.

One thing that just came to mind about System Shock 2 was the soundtrack. While I don't dislike the music, high bpm electronic beats don't really fit the atmosphere. And it was so loud.

This right here doesn't really scream horror to me

Getting towards the end of Might and Magic X and the difficult curve has been pretty nice so far. But now it's very uneven. I can blast passed most things no problems but then suddenly they'll throw a boss at you that can one hit kill you even with buffs or a room of 20 enemies. I'll go around and explore some more but it seems that at this point the difficulty is pretty uneven.

Put in a lot of time into Setsuna this weekend. While the game starts off strong, there were some stretches in the middle where it became less focused on character/story and more on dungeon after dungeon. The dungeons have gotten a lot longer with little save points, and some of the bosses really up the challenge. Well, finally got the Airship so I'm gonna do the requisite side quests now.

Also played more SO5 and finishing up the bonus dungeon. I have one more boss before I can fight the Ethereal Queen but this one is tricky (a fight against shadow versions of your party). Once I do those 2 things I'm finally done with this game, one of my biggest disappointments in a long while.

Somehow currently still playing The Division on PC. Really hoping that it'll get better but Massive seems hellbent on making choices that drives people away. I really like the settings and the world is very beautiful. I completed the side quests, searching for missing agents and picked up all the echos. The way that showed the side stories and stuff was really cool. Too bad DZ concept just flat out sucks.

Still need to start and finish Aliens Isolation and Doom. But also pretty curious about No Man's Sky and can't wait for Deus Ex: MD and FFXV.

It does a lot of things right, they even release new dungeon content regularly, but the end game just isn't compelling despite that.

Beat Ethereal Queen, now it's time to put SO5 to bed. Not a good game at all, and the weakest in the series by far. Oh well, hopefully there will be an SO6 but I doubt it.

Doing sidequests in Setsuna and trying to round up all the trophies, doesn't seem like it'll be too tough to Platinum, but there's a lot of side stuff to do...

And slowly making my way through Zero Time Dilemma, still not really hooked on it yet, though some of the escape the room puzzles are cool (though not as difficult as VLR's)

so is Setsuna a good game on its own or does it feel like it borrows too heavily from old games? i wanna try it (on sale) but i just want to know if it has its own individual personality.

Went back to Just Cause 2, I have forgotten most of the controls and am relearning all over again.  :-\ Was looking for a weapon wheel for the longest time before remembering that you've only got a sidearm (or pair) and a heavy at any given moment. I'm getting killed left and right, as I'd just unlocked a higher enemy response level prior to setting it aside.

Game is still stupid fun. I'm just sucking at it.
