The only bad thing is that you pay the same as you would in the store but you don't get a case or manual.
Also no resale value.  Did they say if you can download the game on release day?
The snapshot makes it look like it's the back catalog, most of those are platinum hits.
That's the only thing that would really make it worth it.  Especially since you can install disk games anyways.

It makes sense if it's just the back catalog. It doesn't particularly harm the relationship with retailers on new releases and there won't be masses of people downloading the games all at once and killing the network.

Also, those games have been through a number of price drops, which does not happen frequently on the marketplace. You're not going to see a game debut at $60 on the marketplace and then drop in price as time goes by. It's going to debut on disk, drop in price however the publisher sees fit, and then end up as an on-demand download whenever the price gets as low as it will get.

I'm still completely blown away.  Microsoft killed it.

Amazing games, amazing new Xbox Live features and additions, and an amazing new control method.  Simply incredible stuff...

Waggle fucking destroyed.  Unfortunately, the GAF website is down and I can't read all the Nfag downplaying and "looks terrible" type of stuff that's no doubt present over there.

Will Natal sell a lot?  I dunno... but what I do know is that it slaughters "waggle".

Physical media >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Digital content

Physical media can be loaned to friends, and/or easily transported to distant locations.  It can be re-sold on eBay or traded in for credit towards new games at Gamestop.

Digital media is stuck on a gigantic box that sits in your living room, and cannot be loaned to friends, re-sold or traded in for credit.  The only advantage is that you get it quickly without leaving your house.  Other than that, it's all disadvantages.

Relatively speaking, you probably have a lot more storage space for physical games as well.  A few shelves can hold dozens of 360 games.  The 360 hard drive can hold...1 game, maybe.  Even with the 120gb hard drive you're looking at what 12-14 games at best?

Oh I agree totally... I can't stand motion controls, but it was just funny to see Microsoft completely and utterly destroy Nintendo at its own game.  It's a shame it probably won't be a massive hit, though.  Or maybe it will?  Who knows at this point...

Does it, though? At least with the Wiimote you have some physical feedback, with Netal you have to go off visuals alone. I can see it working for certain types of games [like Boom Blox], but I just don't see how it can work with something complex like an FPS or anything really fast-paced. And I see there being a much bigger problem with motions not registering properly, moreso than with the Wii, particularly in something fast-paced.

In regards to FPS... I'd much rather use a regular controller like the 360's or a mouse over the Wii remote, and I'm sure most of you feel the same way.

I don't think so, using an accelerometer or a video camera for something like (competitive) driving, sports, or fighting games feels very clunky and is ALWAYS inaccurate.  Especially if you're going for 1:1 recognition.  That's why Wiimotes needed the IR sensors for everything other than broad, basic movements.  Personally, I play a lot of FPS games on 360 but I still can aim a wiimote more accurately.

Xaggle definitely has a lot of non-gaming/casual uses though.  I can imagine the facial recognition software being to keep the kids from playing DOAX2 or any other M-rated game.  Maybe even some party games will come out that require the Natal camera.

Yes, I'd rather use a mouse over the Wiimote, but that's not what we're talking about. We're directly addressing whether the Wiimote or Netal works better in actual games.

Mouse is still the best but the Wiimote is still a much better compromise than (ugh) dual-analog.

You can still hold a controller while playing and use your motion for specific moves or something. Bettre than Wii, but probably on par with DualShock 3 and you have to pay extra for the luxury

Depends on the game. This would be better for Punch Out than Wii's solution. But I don't want to play any of these games anyway. The only built-for-Wii games I want are pointer FPSes, and only sometimes.

Also, the only real advantage of Natal gaming-wise is over waggle that it can detect individual limbs.  But you have just your limbs to control with, no buttons.

maybe if they made some peripherals shaped like baseball bats or steering wheels with buttons on it, it could work.

Also the fact you're paying straight MSRP probably. Chances are most of the games they'll show you can find on sale cheaper than download when they set that fixed. And thats without a disc, case, manual, or a chance to resale or anything. If they made games about 50% cheaper on there from their lowest MSRP, then that would be a deal. I mean, its just a fixed cost to sale the games online anyway. There's no variable cost. Whether you sale 10,000 or 100,000 of the game via download, it doesn't cost you anything more, like with a boxed game with the materials, retailers cut, etc. So may as well make the games cheap via download.

Agreed, what are these people comparing it to the Wii controller on?

The Wii controller for better or worse is STANDARD with the game system. Meaning, every game uses it (which most people think is worse, but Nintendo markets brilliantly regardless of game quality.) It's part of the system's identity.

This camera thing is going to have a packet of minigames they showed come with it, and some minor add on support put in future actual games ALA connectivity, six axis, and whatever the fuck else there's been that was irrelevant the past 10 years.

No one is going to design a game from the ground up with this thing for a peripheral someone has to buy for probably upwards of $100.00. These peripheral things NEVER work unless they're very small, cheap incremental things that come in games (ala N64 expansion pack that comes in a game itself.)

Nintendo's really kicked Sony and Microsoft's ass marketing wise this generation. There's no one who can deny that. Most of the Wii games are third party shovelware, Nintendo itself isn't even churning out games near as much as they used to and the ones they do are almost exclusively Gamecube ports, and a silly fitness game has pushed the Wii to a ridiculous level.

But the real kicker is that Microsoft and Sony keep trying to MATCH it and keep shooting themselves in the foot. It seriously is funny as hell to watch from a business standpoint. Sony throws in some halfhearted axis control support and dumb Eyetoy thing for a nice waste of money, while Microsoft probably sunk a TON into that camera peripheral and are going to get burnt big time when they find out no one is buying it and future game support for it rivals past failed add-ons. It's like Nintendo is kicking these guys in the nuts and they're trying to heal themself by shooting themselves in nads.  :lol

I'd wait 45 minutes for the Kojima countdown to run out before making any conclusions if I were IGN.

Geoff Keighly asked some MS reps about Rising being a 360 exclusive, and they were trying to change the subject, so I doubt it's exclusive. MS would've gone on and on and on if it were.

Wii Fit Plus or whatever the fuck it is called will have like 10000000000000000x the resonance with the casual market than a $200 accessory for a system they don't own. To those like ChowChow who say otherwise are just plain distinguished mentally-challenged.

Yeah, exactly. How is natal going to slaughter wii again?

Can someone explain how at all Microsoft expects wii moms and their ilk who actually are the ones scared of fancy controllers to buy a 360 and spend $200 for a natal? if you can't explain that than this "slaughtering" wii stuff is a joke.

1.  I'm assuming you're referring to my post with the "slaughtering" quote, so I ask you to read it again.  I didn't say it would slaughter the Wii on a sales-front.

2.  The $200 number is complete speculation by the Seattle Times author that barely literate clowns like yourself latched onto without any attempt to read the source of the claim.

3.  Wii/Waggle slaughtered

IGN is saying that the Metal Gear game is exclusive to 360

Wasn't this said like 10 times over the MS conference? It's a new MGS game (without Solid Snake) exclusive for 360.

No, not once.

Nintendo also knew that in order to sell their concept of motion-control, they would have to take a risk and create a completely brand new system separate from the Gamecube, otherwise hardly anyone would buy a peripheral that doesn't even fit in with any of the already existing games on the system.

Microsoft (and Sony if they do it) should've waited for the next generation to introduce this.
