Yeah Forrest is just too big for Rich. Rich shouldn't be fighting at 205. But because Silva beat him twice that's where he is stuck.  >:(

I know this sounds stupid but my first instinct was that the kick was somehow illegal. Like it was so brutal and so obvious that I thought somehow this wasn't right. Like my mind imagined that Belfort was on the ground and it was an illegal kick or something. Not even kidding.

Also if they are going to do the GSP Silva superfight now is the time to do it. Neither guy could be higher right now in the public's mind. If they get the UFC hype machine behind it, this could be fucking huge.

I mean really, who wants to see GSP dust Jake Jake Shields which is what it would be. I'm less interested in that fight than I was to see GSP dust Kosh.

Dana White was asked tonight in the UFC 126 post-fight press conference if Anderson Silva’s next opponent would be Georges St. Pierre. White answered, “If Georges wins his fight, that’ll probably be the fight we do”.

I totally think this is the right move but poor Yushin Okami gets screwed again.

Who wants to see GSP dust Shields?  I DO!  'course, I'm selfish, 'cause I'll be seeing it live.

But, really, GSP-Shields makes sense, because Shields is the last and final WW contender before GSP has well and truly cleaned out the division for the time being. And because there is a segment of the fanbase that calls GSP boring, and so a Fitch-esque drubbing of Shields would help hype GSP up a bit more.

And because Toronto is going to be a massive live event which could itself help the momentum for a GSP-Silva fight.

Oh I agree and technically Silva still has unfinished business with Sonnen and Okami. It's just one of those things where I give Shields no hope at all which colors my opinion. At least Hardy could punch. At least Kosh is like a much much much lesser version of GSP. I guess Shields has his BJJ but its such a foregone conclusion he's not going to be able to get into position to utilize it that I just don't care about the fight. And he just looked like shit in his first fight in the UFC. I don't even think he deserves a title shot. But I get why they are doing it.

You're right, Stoney, Silva-GSP needs to happen now. God, that shit was fucking disgusting. Joe Rogan couldn't stop saying I'VE NEVER SEEN A KNOCKOUT WITH A FRONT KICK TO THE FACE, he was so shocked. Jones-Shogun is cool, too. Jones was just a beast. Reminded me a bit of Silva, only with wrestling ability.

I foresee an August/Sept date if GSP beats Shields.

Question is, what should the venue be?

Madison Square Garden, if the UFC can get MMA legalized in NY in time?

Cowboy Stadium?

return to Toronto for the Skydome?

Vegas?

Yes, because Silva KO'ing a headcase who hadn't fought in 15 months, had NEVER fought in the UFC at 185lbs, and had a history of wilting under pressure, and has nothing in common style-wise with GSP, means that GSP has no chance against SIlva.  huh  ???

I think it would be a fascinating fight. The conventional wisdom is that Silva's size will create problems for GSP but then GSP is such an amazing wrestler which is the weakness of Silva.

I shuttled through the whole video but didn't see that kick. At any point, does that fat bastard do ANYTHING that looks like Silva's face-level front snap-kick? I saw him kicking under knee level. I don't think Belfort's face was at knee-level until after the kick.

I suspect Silva is a fan of his movies, and is able to glean movement skills from him. Sure. And Seagal does have some slick combat aikido moves, no doubt. As out of shape as he is, I wouldn't want to be forced to face him unarmed.

With a donut in each hand, I'm pretty sure I could take him though.

Entire 42,000 tickets for UFC: Toronto sold out on first day of the pre-sale.

http://www.tsn.ca/mma/story/?id=353297

Quote
Toronto's appetite for the UFC is proving to be near insatiable.

The mixed martial arts juggernaut enjoyed a record day at the box office Thursday, selling more than 42,000 tickets -- its entire original ticket block -- for UFC 129 on April 30 at the Rogers Centre.

"I LOVE CANADA!" UFC president Dana White told The Canadian Press in a text message.

The previous UFC attendance record was UFC 124 in Montreal, which drew 23,152 to the Bell Centre in December. White often refers to Canada as the mecca of mixed martial arts.

"To say the response was overwhelming would be an understatement," said Tom Wright, the UFC's director of Canadian operations.

"In less than an hour we were pretty well down to some singles (tickets)."

It took the UFC even less time -- just seven or eight minutes after tickets went on sale to members of the UFC Fight Club at 10 a.m. ET -- to decide it needed to make several thousand more tickets available so there would be some left when the general public gets a chance to buy them Saturday.

On Friday, another pre-sale is set for those who subscribe to the UFC newsletter.

Wright would not detail the possible total number of seats on sale but said 50,000 would be "pushing it."

"I'd love to see a first digit (of) five but time will tell."

...I did not get tickets.  :'(

I have very mixed feelings about Fedor. Not about his legacy which is more than secure. But about how he handled the whole UFC thing. Not that I'm saying he had to sign. He didn't. I would have respected it more if his management had just been more open about things.

But his legacy is secure. And honestly at this point, its becoming clear he wouldn't have dominated the UFC like some people thought. I mean he can continue fighting those guys in strikeforce which I have a feeling he will but it certainly doesn't have the same mythical drawing element to it that it once did.

edit: I didn't see the interview. I missed the interview talk but I guess some people are saying that he retired?

I said wow

Quote
Strikeforce is no longer the UFC’s biggest competitor.

In a video interview with Ariel Helwani posted to MMAFighting.com on Saturday morning, UFC President Dana White announced that Zuffa has purchased the San Jose, Calif.-based fight promotion.

“It's literally official right now. We literally just purchased Strikeforce,” said White. “I don't want to disclose any of the details on how the deal was done, but the reality is that we now own Strikeforce.”

White explained the reasons behind the purchase in the interview, stating that expanding Zuffa's talent pool was a necessary step to take as the promotion ventures into more international endeavors.

“As we go out and [continue to expand], we need more fights. Let's face facts. Strikeforce is a brand that fans have come to like and [the fans] enjoy the fights that they're putting on. So it made sense to us,” said White. “Our job is to put on the big fights that fans want to see, and as we continue to travel [abroad], we have to put on the right fights in these other countries.”

While White would not disclose the exact length of the negotiation period, the UFC boss did confirm that the buyout “happened quickly,” when asked if the talks lasted less than six months.

White then revealed that while Strikeforce is now the property of Zuffa, Scott Coker's promotion would not be dissolved. Rather, Strikeforce will continue to operate independently under the supervision of its new parent company.

“Strikeforce is going to continue to run -- business as usual. There are contracts in place, and we honor contracts. These guys pull good ratings on Showtime, and all of those contracts are going to be honored. These guys are going to remain Strikeforce fighters.”

White then elaborated on that concept, asserting that Coker would continue in his role as Strikeforce head, maintaining the promotion's operations and managing the talent. According to White, this means that Coker will have license to re-sign fighters at his discretion, including talents with whom White takes issue, such as Paul Daley and Josh Barnett.

“We've signed a deal with Scott Coker. He's staying on. You've seen me battle with guys over the years, but I’ve never had a bad thing to say about Scott Coker. I’ve known Scott since the K-1 days. Scott is a good guy.”

Elsewhere, Wrestling Observer writer Dave Meltzer is reporting that the financial relationship between Strikeforce and M-1 Global proved so burdensome to the former that they were forced to seek outside funding, allowing potential buyers in.

That's right.  From that perspective, Fedor killed yet another MMA promotion.
