I don't think Condit offers much more if anything on the feet, and we all know what would happen on the ground. GSP probably would have driven Diaz through the mat like he probably will Condit, but I'd still much rather watch Diaz work off his back

UFC is the big dog, the NFL, of MMA.

Strikeforce is the #2 league, Bellator the #3.

From 97-2007, the Japanese organization Pride was actually bigger than the UFC. You'll probably like Pride events for the showmanship and spectacle, himu. They had some all time great fights.

Current top fighters:

Heavyweight

Heavyweight champion of the world is Cain Velasquez. Exciting wrestler with good striking. He destroyed Brock Lesnar in a comical fight last year to win the title. His fights against Nogueira and Cheick Kongo were also very good.

Velasquez is fighting Junior Dos Santos on Fox in November. Dos Santos is primarily a boxer. Check out his fights against Fabricio Werdum and Shane Carwin.

Next two heavyweights are Brock Lesnar and Alistair Overeem. They'll be fighting each other December 30.

Light Heavyweight

Champ is Jon "Bones" Jones. Young gun, only been in the sport a few years, but is a wrecking machine. Check out any of his fights, they are all one-sided destructions.

Lyoto Machida is a former champ. He's very "Ryu from street fighter"-esque, you might like him.

Quentin "Rampage" Jackson is fighting Jones for the title in just a couple weeks.

Middleweight

Anderson Silva. That's all. Check out his destruction of Yushin Okami, Vitor Belfort, Forrest Griffin, and his amazing come from behind fight against Chael Sonnen. Anderson has had some stinkers too, but his best performances are amazing.

Welterweight

Georges St. Pierre. My mancrush. Second best in the world pound-for-pound next to Anderson. Check out his trilogy against Matt Hughes, his beating of Jon Fitch and BJ Penn. The two Matt Serra fights to see him lose and get revenge.

BJ Penn. Former lightweight and welterweight champion. Always exciting.

Lightweight

Current champion is Frankie Edgar. Will fight Gray Maynard for a third time soon. Check out their second fight, it's an all-time classic.

Featherweight

Champ is Jose Aldo. All of his fights are great, but his most recent fight against Hominick is a classic.

Classic fighters

Fedor Emelianenko used to be THE heavyweight no one could beat. He's fallen apart in the past year, but before that, he was amazing. Watch his three matches against Nogueira, his fight against Mirko Crocop Filipovic, and Kevin Randleman and Fujita.

Mirko "Crocop" Filipovic. When he was in Pride, he scared people shitless. In one interview, when asked what happens when someone gets kicked by him. He shrugged and said "It depends. Right leg, hospital. Left leg, cemetary."

Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira. Watch his fights against Mirko and Fedor. Classics.

Other lighter weight fighters to check out then would be: Kenny Florian, Urijah Faber, Takanori Gomi (his fights in Pride, he's fallen off lately)

Rules are pretty uniform now, but they used to vary.

Pride allowed soccer kicks, stomps, and knees to an opponent on the ground, while UFC did not allow those techniques. UFC allowed elbows to an opponent's head on the ground, while Pride did not. The UFC's rules are the ones that continue to be in use. Pride rules have pretty much died out.

fightlinker.com is the "snarky shit-talking" blog of MMA.

middleeasy.com is a quirky MMA blog.

and the most entertaining historical MMA articles are the cracked.com articles by Seanbaby.

sherdog.com is the biggest MMA news site, but is kinda lame. It does have a complete fight database, so you can look up fighters' records.

Yeah, pretty much every WEC event from the last three years of its existence rocked.

(himu, WEC was a second-tier league that was bought by and eventually incorporated into the UFC. It mostly featured lighter fighters)
