I kind of wish S4 of Ash vs Evil Dead had happened, just to finally reconcile the 2 different Army Of Darkness endings

Cried my eyes out at episode 4 of unsolved mysteries. I really hope some of these get busted with exposure.

The OG series actually had a pretty good record for cases solved.

About halfway through S3 of Dark.
Most of the time i'm either trying to remember who was who or going:

But i'll let it ride out and make sense of it after.
Still, there were still a couple of "Oh Shit" moments.

Those little music montages in every single episode got a bit old, tho.

Oh yeah i finished it Dark S3.
In the end more or less everything came together reasonably logically, though the whole season didn't feel very satisying.
Character moments essentially stopped, and it was one loose end tying after the other, with little flair.

Also some plot points went basically wasted

I have a couple of doubts about how they handled some aspects of the time travel logic, but time travel isn't real, so what's the point in arguing. :thinking

Overall, an amazing series, even if season 3 felt more like homework.

Narrative shows are for suckers.

After 4 binge seasons of Forged In Fire, I feel like making a knife, but first I have to become really really overconfident in my own ability, and grow a woodsman-y beard.

This is mostly for Toku:

Black Mirror ranking (so far):
1. Be Right Back (Season 2)
1. San Junipero (Season 3)
1. Black Museum (Season 4)
2. White Bear (Season 2)
2. White Christmas (Season 2)
2. Playtest (Season 3)
3. U.S.S. Callister (Season 4)
3. The National Anthem (Season 1)
3. Hated in the Nation (Season 3)
3. Hang the DJ (Season 4)
4. Metalhead (Season 4)
4. The Entire History of You (Season 1)
5. Men Against Fire (Season 3)
6. Fifteen Million Merits (Season 1)
7. Crocodile (Season 4)
8. Arkangel (Season 4)
9. Nosedive (Season 3)
10.The Waldo Moment (Season 2)
11. Shut Up and Dance (Season 3)
---

I just finished "Black Museum" and holy shit: 1) The actress was in Human's and Black Panther/Avengers: I knew I knew her from somewhere. 2) THIS IS THE FUCKING STRONGEST BLACK MIRROR EPISODE, I feel. It's hard to rank it with the others I listed because I really enjoy those top 5-6 episodes on their individual merits (hurr hurr pun), but the fact this is referencing things in the "Easter Eggs," throws in the White Chirstmas, San Junipero, etc. concept of memory and the afterlife, and then twists it on it's head: It's taking EVERYTHING Brooker learned in the previous episodes and amplifying them.

I think it's probably THE best episode of Black Mirror. But I gotta do the "Choose Your Own Adventure" film on Monday and then do Season 5/latest season of the show itself which is like 3 1-hour episodes so I should finish it this week.

I was kind of worried it would be like When They See Us. Like that series was really good but I had to binge the last three episodes because it was so depressing. I'll probably try to get through some of it this weekend now.

Finished Bandersnatch: Bar Two of the endings, I got the others. The 5/5 one was my second one (the first was the bad choice/loop?)

I missed the dying on the train and the CEO murder one.

Took me about an hour or two to do them all otherwise before I tapped out because it was looping at that point. An interesting experience, but pretty weak.

I'd put it between "Men Against Fire" and "Fifteen Million Merits." The Netflix loop put a smile on my face, but ultimately the episodes story/scenes are pretty weak but the whole "you can change your fate" that the "We're the Millers" actor talks about and how they reference it in the first loop was good enough to pull it up a bit beyond Shut Up and Dance's

Finished all seasons of Casa de Papel

spoiler (click to show/hide)
Berlin and Tokyo pretty much carry the entire thing throughout season 1 and 2. Although they hype up the professor, he is a very one dimensional character, which sort of makes his interactions boring when he's on his own. Unless he gets together with Berlin and Palermo in flashback scenes, a better heist was hidden in there somewhere with him actually teaming up to carry it out with Palermo and Berlin.

Season 3 and 4 are all over the place but I liked those as well. After the relatively weak start of Season 3 they quickly throw in Alicia, who is again a very interesting character but I also found Tamayo better than Prieto.
Not sure where Raquel fits in all this. She's kind of one dimensional like the professor. Without Berlin the whole thing inside the bank becomes more predictable though. At some point the writers have to jump through all sorts of hoops to keep the momentum going, such as adding super soldier Gandia. The same goes for the love plots, for some reason every character has to hook up in some way. Which makes it like a soap series at times. In season 4 in particular the heist itself becomes more of a 'plot device' while in the season 1 and 2 there was a clear focus. It fits with the story, considering the heist is more of a 'distraction' but it is sort of weird that everyone goes along with it. Giving the hostages more background and everyone clear motivations made season 1 and 2 all the more interesting. I think of moving the plot along after Season 1 and 2 they should've instead made a prequel first to explore the backstory of the characters and their actions prior to the first season. It actually feels like they put more love and care into the flashback scenes than the current events as they unfold in season 3 and 4.

Season 5 will suffer the same fate as Games of Thrones I'm afraid. With a number of stellar cast members dead or out of the picture they'll be left with less interesting characters (and actors) to take on the mantle.
At the end the plot seems to move towards a rather predictable 'the gang has to free the professor now', which takes him out of the picture too and we likely won't see Berlin again either.
I guess it will all revolve around Tokyo, which is probably the smart thing to do.

Toku:

Finished Black Mirror.

Black Mirror ranking:
1. Be Right Back (Season 2)
1. San Junipero (Season 3)
1. Black Museum (Season 4)
1. Striking Vipers (Season 5)
2. White Bear (Season 2)
2. White Christmas (Season 2)
2. Playtest (Season 3)
3. Rachel, Jack, and Ashley Too (Season 5)
3. U.S.S. Callister (Season 4)
3. The National Anthem (Season 1)
3. Hated in the Nation (Season 3)
3. Hang the DJ (Season 4)
4. Metalhead (Season 4)
4. The Entire History of You (Season 1)
5. Men Against Fire (Season 3)
5. Bandersnatch (Interactive Fiction)
6. Smithereens (Season 5)
6. Fifteen Million Merits (Season 1)
7. Crocodile (Season 4)
8. Arkangel (Season 4)
9. Nosedive (Season 3)
10.The Waldo Moment (Season 2)
11. Shut Up and Dance (Season 3)

Ironically: "Striking Vipers" was the third Black Mirror episode to be directed by Owen Harris, who had previously directed series two's "Be Right Back", and series three's "San Junipero".

So his episodes are pretty highly regarded by me. But they deal with death, relationships, VR/robotics. Which is what I'm more into with the series.

I liked Rachel, Jack, and Ashley Too. But I do have to agree with the critics that it's a little breakneck paced. If Booker did it as a two hour film, it'd probably be paced better.

Agents Of SHIELD ended this week.  Sad to see it go- it got really fun the last few seasons after they broke off from trying to tie stuff into the Marvel movies.  There were mentions of things here and there, but for the most part, they did their own thing- they even introduced and used the alien Kree in a much better way than the movies have.  In fact, the show had more varied storylines than the movies with aliens controlling the world, zombies (sort of), time travel, alternate universes, space stuff, storylines on other planets, horror elements, and a virtual Matrix-like world.

It did get kind of tiring seeing some of the same set pieces re-used endlessly and characters get killed off, only for them to come back more than once (Coulson, lol), but it remained enjoyable.  Had a pretty satisfying ending overall.

Lucifer is back next week.  Can't wait.

Hyped this is coming back, although it's apparently not the whole season and just the first five episodes?

Not really a superhero guy but decided to try to watch one of the fleet of super hero shows that exist.

Watched the first episode of Watchman, Doom Patrol, and Umbrella Academy.

Watchman had the most interesting universe.
Doom Patrol was the most fun
Umbrella Academy seemed like the biggest budget but also the one that seemed the most typical.

Not sure which one to watch.

I watched Daredevil season 1 years ago. It's probably pretty great if you are a big comic book fan but it honestly didn't do anything for me. I mean it was fine for that type of material but it was so by the book for me which is my issue with most superhero fare.

Then why are you wanting to watch comic book shows if you don't want them to be by the book

A.) There aren't a lot of good shows out at the moment I haven't seen.
B.) I still give genres I'm not a big fan of occasional chances to see if  something surprises me.
C.) You can still be within a genre and do something unique or interesting, or surprising imo. Other genre shows are capable of it.

I mean right now its probably Doom Patrol or watchman but it always fine to solicit opinions.

The Boys is a pretty decent example of why I try this stuff every so often. I forgot about that one. I remember watching the first episode and actually liking that quite a bit. But I was super busy in life at the time and wasn't able to continue watching it. It did feel a bit different to me compared to most of the super hero fare that reaches TV. Thanks for the reminder. I'll add that back to the list now that my time is way more open.

Daredevil is pretty good but absolutely do not watch any of the other Netflix Marvel shows

Been slowly making my way through these- I disagree.  It's worth checking out all the shows up through Defenders, but post-Defenders, Punisher aside, has been had to watch.  Got through Jessica Jones and Luke Cage season two, which dragged on for way too long, and am currently taking a break after starting Iron Fist and just not really caring.  Might skip it and move on.

Looks like some True Detective shit, but could actually be good, since it's not being made by Pizzahack, but by Campos (who's made some absolute gems).
It seems to be missing his dry, cold approach to filmmaking you'd see in Simon Killer or Afterschool, but already in Christine he got a bit more "cinematic", if you will.

Finally sat down and watched the rest of The Mandalorian. First few eps didn't really grab me and it got backlogged. I like Star Wars, but not a Star Wars fan/nut at all.

It was solid. The stories were really, really generic and the weakest part of it. Like just real basic storylines been done a million times. But the execution of it all was pretty nice, it looked fantastic and the score was real good. The final ep had the production values of an actual Star Wars movie in 45 min form which was impressive.

Liked it enough to be interested in S2, but just hope the story is more interesting this time around. Also as a casual Star Wars fan the timeline is all very confusing and like after every other casual Star Wars game/movie thing being Jedis everywhere it's weird that like no one in this has ever heard of a Jedi or the force in this series despite it being only a bit after the original trilogy where you would think the Resistance beating the Empire would've spread the news of Luke and his Jedi powers all around the galaxy. Then again I don't know much about Star Wars lore.

I guess S2 has a clone wars character, I'd be interested in watching that since I heard it's good, but it's butt-ugly CG animation and a gajillion eps, so no thank you. Hopefully S2 stands well enough on its own if you don't know who any of these people are or what a Darksaber is.

I did enjoy the dozens of cameos and Taika's comedy skit opening scene in the final ep where a droid kills him. That comedy skit between the two stormtroopers was probably my favorite scene in the whole show just because it felt fresh having a random goofy ass comedy skit straight out of SNL placed in a serious star wars show. I'd love to see Taika do an entire episode/movie as a comedy Thor Ragnorak style.

I have to say I'm enjoying Twin Peaks season 3 more this time around, but boy there's a real misogyny streak in this. All the women are fucking terrible and if they aren't, the men are shitheads to them. Gordon keeps Agt. Preston around because she's hot first and foremost and apparently has a history of this. Albert also blatantly objectifies her ON THE JOB, WITH HIS BOSS. The detective in Buckhorn treats the coroner with no respect and acts like he hates having to work with her. Janey-E and Diane are miserable fucks and shrews.

Then of course there is Richard. And Becky's methy boyfriend. And you know...Mr. C. But even the good guys are shit heads, and the only women treated not as disposable props or fuckheads themselves are Lucy, Norma, and I guess Jade the hooker.

I guess it's not TOO surprising seeing as the series is centered around abusing and murdering young women.

I remember thinking this at points the first time around watching it. Loved it generally though. Must get around to a rewatch soon.

I really liked how 'Star Wars' it felt, and to some extent that feeling was the fact it felt like that because it was so simplistic it almost felt like some kids made up stories with their favorite toys at times, not some lore nerd trying to retcon stuff or reconcile oddities so they can populate a wiki.
It also had just a lot of nice subtle touches - the Speederbike Scouts chat about what a dick their boss is, dunking on how bad a shot most stormtroopers are, whats left of the empire basically being a white supremacist gang, and I did buy into most people not knowing what a jedi is for the same reason I bought into most people thinking Mandalore is the main characters homeworld.

Also for all of the scarcity of writing, it still managed to give most of the characters nice character moments and arcs - not-IG-88 being my personal stand out

Oh, think I forgot to post that I was a bit disapointed with Lucifer - it wasn't bad but more season 2-level than season 4-level.  I also miss Eve a lot.

Eve is stupid hot.  Maybe she’ll show up in part 2 of season 5?  I’m already jazzed because Dennis Haysbert is in it, and I’m certain that Eve could play well against Michael.

Ya, I really hope she shows up.  It would solve some storyline issues and she is stupid hot and that born-yesterday-ditzy-girl thing is my problematic jam and I want more.

I think it is, although there was a couple inaccuracies that seemed really strange; Private Blithe’s story is the big one that stands out for me.

It's one of the best shows in television history. So yes.

Now that I'm mostly through season 3 of TP again, I'm realizing the problem isn't the lack of music making it feel so off, but how fucking ugly the lighting and cinematography is that makes it look and feel like a cheap straight to Redbox Steven Segal movie or some shit. All the lighting is so flat and even and overly bright, the digital makes it look like EVERYTHING is a shitty greenscreen, and the actual green screen effects are very bad and distracting. Some of the effects look bad or cheap intentionally for effect, but I do not believe David Lynch intentionally made things like outside footage in car scenes or the green screen effects of television/phone/computer/tablet look so fucking cheap and distracting.

There were some occasional weird/bad editing choices and effects in the original run, but nothing that looks as low rent as the majority of season 3. Maybe they really did just blow the whole budget on episode 8. The lighting in the original run is also so much better on every level and makes it feel like a real show, where as season 3's is so....sterile. That's actually far more distracting to me now than the lack of constant and specific music in every scene making the tone feel off.

tp3 definitely feels like something from inland empire lynch...

Episode 1 and 2 were kind of boring tbh, but ep3 picked up well, that ending was..  :holeup
I'm actually enjoying it a bit more since i have lower expectations compared to when i went into Season 1.
Hughie still an insufferable bitch though.  ::)

Finished up the final season of The Good Place. I thought it was terrific. One of my personal favorite comedies of all time. Definitely top three. It might be my favorite.
