I've tried watching Community multiple times, but I don't get the funny. Is it because I didn't go to community college, or is it because my life isn't comprised of internet memes?

I like it as long as a person accepts it for what it is. I think places like GAF are completely annoying and overboard towards it but I do like it mainly because I like the characters. In that sense it isn't very much different from any sitcom. If you like the characters you probably will like the show. If you don't you won't.

I just started watching this and I absolutely love it so far (7 eps in). Great writing and an amazing cast. I laugh harder at a 22-minute episode of Community than I have for the last three 2-hour "comedy" movies I've watched. It's brilliant!

It does, but its just like anything else at GAF.

I like Joel McHale a lot, and there are some funny bits, but Community just doesn't click with me for the most part.

I couldn't find anything else to watch, so I started s2 of Veronica Mars. Besides the first episode, it seems okay so far. I don't like the black chick they got for Wallace though. She's not pretty or sexy which makes her bitchiness even worse.

ok the pilot of terriers was pretty good

some bad lines, but that comes with something taking off on detective shows

Just of note, it's not a procedural show or a court case show, but more along the lines of the hardboiled tradition but with two low class dudes in a beat up truck instead of a gumshoe in a getaway car.

I'll have to check out Terriers. I've always liked the bearded dude that was in Grounded for Life and Blade.

I also watched Boardwalk Empire recently, some awesome dialog for that show. Unfortunately my niece was over so I couldn't really focus on the show as much as I wanted to. I love how convincing Buscemi is as the character he's portraying.

Well I just felt the show started getting formulaic.  And then everything leading up to Rita's death last season and how it was handled.  It had no emotional impact at all.  Oh well.  I got two great seasons out of the show.

I'm a couple of seasons behind on Dexter but I'm eager to catch up.

I think I'm going to like it more than most of you guys (Of course I'm speaking out of my ass here a bit having not seen the last two seasons so I could be completely wrong) Even in the early days Dexter was a bit hit or miss so I don't think I quite put it on the level that some of you did. For me its just an entertaining show with a neat gimmick so I have a feeling it was never quite on the same high pedestal for me as it was for some others.

Dexter went downhill when...

...Doakes was killed
[close]

Dexter reminds me of House: it is incredibly formulaic under the guise of frenetic story telling.  It is predictably unpredictable.  With the event in spoiler happening, the rest of the side cast ranges from garbage to mediocrity, not enough to save the show anyway.

It was extremely addicting when blowing through the episodes for the first time.

Nailed it.  Been down with the flu so I just shot through the first 2 seasons in 2 days.  After what happened in the spoiler, I don't know how much I'm going to like the rest of the series since he was easily the best character in the show.  I'm still intrigued enough to want more of Michael C. Hall being a slick creeper, though.  However...

spoiler (click to show/hide)
After some reviews, I hear that season 3 deals less with Dexter being Dexter and more with him coming to terms with his new realization on life and how Harry's adopted code has been mutated by the events in season 2.

This.

I like both shows. They are both good TV imo. But its not like watching the Wire or Madmen or something. Which is fine. Not every show has to reach that level to be enjoyable imo. I like plenty of movies that aren't oscar worthy but just entertaining flicks.

No. The transformers movies are shit no matter which way you slice them.

I like the cinematography in Terriers, especially the close up on the faces, nice dreamy look. It just looks high quality. Crazily enough you can get the same look from a Canon 5DMKII and a Canon 135L. Makes me want to get that setup and some point and the future and record family members with the same exact look. I'm also wondering what equipment they're using in the pilot. Nice locale too.

Yeah, I like the look. They found a way to translate a noir look without the black and white by going with a dusty, sleepy beach town. The camera angles and bits of sun glare, along with the empty roads work well. I guess I would call the look Mellow Yellow.

I've heard a lot of this, but I haven't had a particular dislike for the post-Sorkin West Wing episodes so far.

And just skip Lost.

I know that it is apparantly shit, that the writers made it up as they went along etc, but I kind of have the first five seasons on DVD just sitting there...from what I gather it's extremely inconsistent with a pretty poor ending. Is it worse in that respect than, say Battlestar Galactica? I thought watching that show was worth it, even though there were parts of it I downright hated.

Season 2 of Veronica Mars wasn't the monumental drop in quality that you all made it seem like it would be. It was still good, just not as focused as the first season. The villains were much weaker though. I'm on episode 6 of the third season now.
