So, thanks to insomnia, I was up until 4 this morning watching the entire 1st season of American Horror Story. I feel like I am missing something, because I wasn't as in love with it as a lot of folks seem to be. I mean, I thought it was decent, and there was some great acting, but I thought it went on too long and some of the character's actions didn't ring true

Eh. Don't watch it as some sort of beacon of great television. It's good at what it does. EricP described it perfectly: gothic horror turned up to 11. It's just batshit insane holding nothing back. That's what I loved about it. From the first episode it seemed intent on crossing lines.

I finally caught up to everything in Breaking Bad. I felt season 5 was kinda weak.

As for the show on the whole, from what everyone was telling me about it, I thought it would have been better. But there's really a lot I dislike about it. I don't really care for:

-most of the characters
-the writing
-the directing
-the music

I get that I'm most likely in the minority, but I feel it's pretty overrated, with the main saving grace being the occasional "holy shit!" moments like this one (spoiler if you haven't seen it):

Other than that, I don't feel the show deserves the amount of jizz it currently does.

These are my feelings on Season 5 to a T. Definitely overrated.

Started watching Nikita, because Maggie Q in lingerie. It's not bad by a longshot. For TV espionage, it's exciting and fun. It's not A-Team levels of cheese, and the exposition is sometimes pretty weak, but the story structure is solid enough and, again, Maggie Q in skimpy clothes.

It's inspired by La Femme Nikita, a Luc Besson movie. The first TV series and American Point of No Return movie were also based on that masterpiece.

Maggie Q's show is not using the fiction from any of them specifically; they're making up a new canon but originating the characters from the same scenario.
