God of War III - New info
« on: January 11, 2010, 09:45:25 AM »
I couldn't find a suitable thread for this. The demo thread and E3 thread are old and new GOW media doesn't belong in those topics.

New scans are out  :hyper

Only two months to go :hyper :hyper :hyper

Let's keep this thread updated with new GOWIII info.  There's supposedly new footage going to be shown on january 18th.

Spoiler? lol
Who didn't knew there was going to be a Hades battle in GOWIII? The Hade battle pics where shown months before. And the GOWII ending hinted at that.
The Poseidon battle is kinda new, though. And it looks great.

Previously shown Hades media:

I don't really like Hades' design. He's too bulky.

Damn, that really does look insane.

I simply hope that the framerate is stabilized in the final game.  The demo is left unlocked and loves to jump all around.  If you can't hold 60 fps most of the time, don't even try.  Lock it to 30.  I wouldn't mind 30 fps with high quality motion blur (ala Uncharted 2 or Killzone 2), to be honest, though 60 fps is obviously best.

Still, when games like Bayonetta look pretty average yet struggle to hold a solid framerate during battle (360 version even), I have no hope that something looking THIS good could hit 60 fps.

Oh well. This will be worth it for the set-pieces and the fatalities.

If it's anything like God of War I & II, which it obviously is, then there will be the blade fodder enemies (archers, legionnaires), purely offensive types like the wraiths and gorgons, and combat adept bastards like Satyrs and Centaurs. I haven't played enough of any Ninja Gaiden to know how the two compare.

Batman X360 wasn't superior. Most multiplatform games are basically the same nowadays. Only Bayonetta was an odd one.
Most X360 exclusives can be played on the PC, in superior form. While Ps3 has real exclusives.

Gaming PC + Ps3 is actually the best combo you can have.

DMC4, Bayonetta, Ninja Gaiden 2, Dante's Inferno, God of War 3 and Bayonetta.
This combo is only available on the ps3. :smug

FFXIII is superior on the Ps3.
Other multiplatform games are the same. Just like I said, only Bayonetta was a bad port.

Want to play the superior Mass Effect 2? Get the Pc version.
Want to play the superior SPlinter Cell 5? Get the Pc version.
Want to play the superior Metro 2033? Get the PC version.

X360 exclusives are nothing more than downgraded PC ports.

God of War 3 and Heavy Rain cannot be played on the PC. I know a lot of gamers who only own a PC and Ps3 for gaming. I would also go for that combo if I wasn't lazy. So I just own all consoles instead.

Really, multiplatform games on Ps360 are basically the same nowadays.

It's true, most ports are best played on the PC.  Stuff like Bionic Commando, which was nigh unplayable on the consoles, is a blast on the PC thanks to a perfect framerate and short load times.

Except when they are not. Pretty much 99% of multiplatform games have shitty textures, vaseline filter, worse framerate than the 360 version.
Really, that's not true.  There are some significant exceptions, but most of the ports are very much on par.

I still tend to prefer 360 versions, but when possible, I like to go with PS3 (the collector in me prefers it).

Halo: Reach is on the PC?
Fable 3 is on the PC?
Alan Wake is on the PC?

Come on man you are better than that.

Halo and Fable are being made by MS first party devs. That's why they're console exclusives. The X360 PC ports I've mentioned are made by 3rd parties. And most of the time they're on PC also.
Sony first party support is just much better, that's why they have the most exclusives.

Stuff like The Last Guardian, GT5 and GOW3 annihilate the X360 first party exclusives.
And then you have cool third party exclusives like Heavy Rain, MLB2010 and 3D Dot Game Heroes. And all the games I've mentioned are Ps3 exclusive, with no PC version in mind.

X360 has Crackdown 2, though.  :hyper

Nice,a PS3 bashing thread :)

PS3 sucks, has shitty hardware and no games.
Now that we have settled that, there is one thing that i want to mention,
PS3 has GoW3 this year and that's that.

Heavy Rain will be another Liar with 6.0 reviews.

GT5 is probably 2011 in the States.

FF13 is on 360.

Official Playstation Magazine has awarded it with 9/10...i am not sure if they have given Lair 9/10 also, some playstation mag did if my memory serves me

Exclusives:

Gow III
Heavy Rain
3d Dot Game Heroes

I guess. Don't know if MAG comes out soon. And I don't care either. Game looks like shit.

It's as much a real video game as any old PC graphic adventure.  If you consider Grim Fandango or Monkey Island 3 a video game then so is Heavy Rain.  :)  Heavy Rain seems like an evolution of that formula, really.  Will they succeed?  Let's wait and see.

Quantic Dream has always produced games like this.  Omikron attempted to be Shenmue before Shenmue and, in some ways, did a much better job.  Fahrenheit also gave the adventure genre a shot, but got muddled up with a misguided story and simon-says QTEs.  The QTEs used in Heavy Rain seem much less static and less divided from the regular adventuring/exploration portions.

I think the biggest concerns I have with the game are its voice work (which seems a bit off) and the poor facial expressions (considering the hype behind this side of things, it's disappointing that the eyes look so dead).  It should at least be an interesting experiment.

The Lair comparisons are unfounded.  This is just Quantic Dream doing what Quantic Dream has always done.  People are simply taking sides due to its exclusivity.  PS3 fans are giving it more attention that it probably would have received while PS3 haters are giving it a lot of extra shit that it probably doesn't deserve.  If it had been multiplatform it still would have received a decent amount of attention just due to the potential their last game had.

I just hope they'll try something new with the franchise. GOW 3 is basically still GOW v1.7 when it comes to gameplay mechanics.
But then again, changing the formula too much might ruin the game.

And Kratos will probably murder all the remaining gods in GOWIII. So I wonder what he'll have to murder next.
