Morodor gets by purely on the fact that the Nemesis system is pretty sweet. Like everything else about the game is lame.

Yeah, the Nemesis system is sweet, the combat feels like an evolution of Batman/Arkham instead of a straight me-too swipe, the mix of story- and optional-missions is well handled, presentation is top-notch. "Lame" is a pretty harsh judgment for all it gets right.

I get why some were turned off by Mordor but for whatever reason that game quite appealed to me despite the limited scope of it.

Yeah, I'll give you most of those, but I thought most of the story and side missions were pretty dull to be honest.I had to force myself to sleep walk through the core missions just so I could get the new map and fuck shit up with a new Nemesis map, and I don't think I ever found any of the side challenges to be particularly interesting. That's just me though.

More RetroVGS shenanigans :

Apparently, in the early days of the original RVGS project, Shane was one of the guys that Mike was bouncing ideas off of; Shane even put him in touch with Cloanto about possibly licensing the Amiga technologies.  I seem to recall Mike mentioning at one time that he was "in talks" with Cloanto (of course we now know how little that means), but from Shane's description, they sounded pretty skeptical.

PS Store might get a design revamp.
Will probably be broken as all previous versions.

Lots of nostalgia for the original PS3 store, it seems. It was the less terrible one but it was still pretty bad.

The eSports today podcast on Idle Thumbs will probably be discontinued, sadly. I kinda enjoyed listening about it in a condensed format despite not watching eSports. Understand though as one of the hosts has a book on Eve online to tend to and Rob Zacny has two other weekly podcasts on his plate.

You know, looking at the response to Hitman's early access ep1 release makes me a believer in early access games.  The reason is, the game apparently has a lot of shit wrong with it and kind of sucks in many ways.  But because it's in early access, the developers can actually address some of this stuff and maybe by the end of the season when the game is at 1.0 it'll be a great Hitman game.  Whereas if it was using the old model, it would have released with glaring flaws and get a "we'll fix these in the sequel" wave off.

I mean a pessimist can say they're not gonna change much over the next year so it doesn't matter, but I get the feeling the IO team actually likes Hitman as a series and wants to make a great game, so they'll take a lot of the criticisms to heart and we'll get a better game out if it after a bunch of updates.

And then when they do and the game is 50% off on-sale I'll get to play a good game!  :jawalrus

Frozen Synapse 2 first preview video :hyper

Not too surprising to see Mode 7 go back on their previous success considering Frozen Cortex had a lackluster commercial life. Looks good though, with the proper amount of ambition in it.

Also like the look of this game that offers you to create today's utilitarian utopia and tomorrow's nightmare ghetto projects :

Block'hood, which is now in Early Access.

Early Access is why I haven't bought it yet. But it looks to scratch that Sim<thing> itch for me.

Should easily be worth it. The first expansion was great, and I can't imagine they'd completely whiff on the rest of the content.

Heart of Stone is pretty good so I'd say yes just for that. Really cool new characters and well it's worth it just for the Wedding part. Plus it ups the challenge a bit.

...Hasn't changed in like 20 years.  Just higher prices.   :lol

When I first got into the Neo, I was still a teenager.  I'd try making deals with people online and my father would refuse to let me send people money for stuff.  Somehow it got to the point that people would ship ME the products first, and then I'd pay them.  I don't think I'd be able to trust someone like that if it were the other way around.

So how does MS determine which XBL GWG you get to play if you choose not to renew your Xbox live? I never play online so I decided to just let it expire. Today I went to play a game and found it didn't work. I got am message telling me I had to have Gold. Fair enough. But some that I got free with gold work while others don't. I ended up checking one by one and just uninstalling the ones that don't work. There doesn't seem to be any logic. XB1 by the way.

360 titles = Yours to keep after sub lapses
X-box titles = Yours to rent like Sony's service. Sub lapses? Those non-360 titles aren't yours to keep.

Once again it was for logical people. Not for people who put up a reality distortion field around these companies and games. DriveClub was a disaster for them but GAF thinks it did fine and also was best game of the gen.

Sad to see any company go down but yeah when you partner up, you gotta deliver consistent numbers to stay viable. It's difficult.

In SBTF, armored marines board ships overrun with pissed-off aliens. The plan: get in, pull the data servers, set the engine to overload, and get out. The game takes inspiration from familiar aliens-vs-marines setups: Games Workshop's Space Hulk and James Cameron's Aliens. The heart of SBTF, though, is its use of campy, over-the-top humor as a balance for jumpscares and horror.
“You watch some people who are really well organized and they have a plan. They’re in the airlock and they’re all ready to go and they’re being so serious,” Norneby says. “And then they open the airlock and they take two steps and everyone dies… Then they start to laugh.”

After making it to the round of 16, a Harvard video game squad was booted from their tournament for cheating.

A group of Harvard video game players competing in the Blizzard Entertainment’s "Heroes of the Dorm" competition—a multiplayer online video game—was disqualified last week for violating several of the contest’s rules.

An investigation by tournament officials revealed a player on the Harvard team, called Team Ambush, was sharing his user account with a higher rated player who was not on the team's official tournament roster.
