Watch it get a PC port... via MS store using that infernal XBox anywhere system or whatever it was called, you know that thing where you share saves and purchases between Windows and XBones. :-\

Am tempted, but VC being a TBS/SRPG franchise (which I'm utter crap at) makes me sad. Got the first game on PS3 via Plus, I think. Got to the first real battle (after you unlock the  barracks and customisation,  IIRC) and just dropped it. It is undeniably a good game, but I just lack the masochism and tactical skills to play these kinds of games. Heck, I'm still chomping at Mario and Rabbids, and that's kind of the holy grail, as far as my motivation goes.

games not all that difficult or long but really good, one of my favorites from this year

one big tip, this game wants you to be playing very aggressively, just almost all offense and always be moving. I actually find the melee weapons easier to use than the guns 85% of the levels

With that style, there's not much more you can push it visually.

Also, after the last 2 sequels being on freaking PSP graphics, it looks great to me ;).

Why does it even need to look any different to the PS3/PC game? The hand-drawn-like filter and celshading look is perfect for what it wants to achieve. It's kinda like Windwaker in that regard. Sure, you can up the resolution and fiddle around with shadows and some other stuff, but all in all the visual style is set in stone and doesn't need any further eye candy.

I guess it doesn't matter, it's just I see something like Ni No Kuni 2 that is also cell shaded, but looks so colorful and amazing with really good image quality, character models, environment detail, and lighting, and all that stuff and then this basically looks like the HD Version of the 1st game.

It says Xbox One, Japan is just flocking to Xbox One right now

It's Sega. Boneheaded moves (VC2 being PSP to focus on Japan when it made more sales in America off 1 IIRC) is the du jour with them.
---

Anyway, finished Blood and Wine. That one has WAY more content than Hearts of Stone and reminds me of when DLC/expansions were actually expansions. The Duchy is just as huge as Novigrad and Valen put together. I also liked that it included a character from the books even if that character was written out so it retconned.

You basically get the same ending, sadly with 1-2 minor twists.

spoiler (click to show/hide)
Sylvia Anna's death if you don't give the ribbon if you go after her.
Anna Henrietta's death if you warn her of Syanna's plan to murder her and say she should think her her nation/duchy instead of agreeing with her sisters feelings.

That last one threw me for a loop as I saw all three "endings" and that was a new one from them.

I didn't like how

I don't think there's any way to make TF sell the numbers EA would want it to. Mechs are not mainstream enough.

EA already has a Call of Duty competitor, it's the Battlefield franchise.

Oh yeah, so Respawn will make the every other year BF game  :-\

EA bought them at least partially to provide their foray into VR. Dunno about anything beyond that.

unfortunately I had an idea for a game but I havent really done shit with it. I'm currently studying towards a computer science degree so I'm actually able to program etc now. The game idea is still on the shelf but I'd like to fund it someday

I was planning to pick up a physical copy of I am Setsuna, but ended up getting it from the eShop since it’s a third of the price.

The story reminds me of Final Fantasy X. You’re escorting a girl, Setsuna, that has been selected to be a sacrifice. Apparently, this is the best way to reduce the number of monsters in the world.

The combat system is a mix from classic JRPGs. There are ATB bars, from Final Fantasy. Character positions and enemy placements matter, as in Lunar or Grandia. There is a Tech/Combo system, as in Chrono Trigger. You have slots and “materia”, as in FF7.

The first hour wasn’t particularly interesting. However, if you want to play a new JRPG on a portable system then this might be the best alternative.

Yes, and there might be a European version too. Several stores are selling it here, but it’s at least $80. It’s unclear if they’re all Japanese imports.

AFAIK there's only a physical Japanese/Asian version.  The Asian version is literally the Japanese version with an extra case insert, in English, included.  For a little while online some sellers had the Asian version for $20-$30 higher than the Japanese version...because of an extra piece of paper.  I ended up getting the Asian version when it dropped in line with the Japanese version prices and paid $50 for my copy.  The English insert was included under its own layer of shrinkwrapping and teared a bit when I tried to get it out.  Saw a lot of people complaining about this.

If you want a physical copy of Lost Sphear in English, BTW, it's a Square Enix online store exclusive in North America.

I think I'm the only person who actually liked Setsuna. Liked the music and the somber tone of it, though some of the later-game dungeons dragged on for far too long.

So, one thing that was really nice about my old Pioneer plasma was the abundance of inputs: 1 Composite, 3 Component (which could also be used for Composite), VGA, RF, and 2 HDMI. This was perfect for my game setup, I just hooked up a switcher for the HDMI. But now the new TV only has 4 HDMI, 1 Composite, and no Component. I have a Wii, 360, and Japanese PS2 that I was hooking up with Components. And the DC for the VGA. Any recommendations for what I should do? I saw this, which has 2 Component and 1 VGA, and an HDMI output:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01880ROSE/ref=psdc_202505011_t1_B072F6XJHL

Anyone know of the quality of it? Or have a better solution?

I finally played through Mirror's Edge Catalyst.

For a sequel to a cult game it seemed like Catalyst was frogetten rather quick. I remember when it came out there were some people into it, but it mostly seemed like it came and went rather quickly. Hell, I thought it came out years ago, not just last year.

I myself purchased it on release for the PS4 and then preceded to well not play it. I played maybe a few missions and was quickly uninterested in the open world Ubisoft Icon fest and found the visuals on consoles to be rather muddy and blurry. ME's aesthetic and visuals are kind of important and well it didn't shine on the PS4. Though it was nice that it ran well.

So I quickly forgot the game and resigned that something like this probably wouldn't come out of DICE/EA ever again.

But then for whatever reason I was inspired to play it again. Mostly because of the Xbox One X Enhancement of the first one. There was a post here saying it actually looked better than the sequel. An exaggeration more to say how good the enhancement looked rather than fact, but still. For some reason this brought the game back into my mind and I decided this time to play on PC so I could run the game on it's Hyper settings.

And well at least on a gaming PC the visuals are incredible. The picture quality is fantastic and the aesthetic pops. Except for the fact that the far away city buildings are a little too low rez, but beyond that the game is beautiful. It really lives up to what I imagine ME should look like.

I was also impressed by how the cutscenes looked. Outside of Naughty Dog games, this gen has really lacked well produced cutscenes. In Catalyst, we stuff well above the E-Insurance cartoons of the first. It sucks that they aren't real time, but they are so well animated and rendered that it's pretty impressive.

Too bad the story is so overwrought. While the 1st game's story was nothing amazing. In the end it seemed far more "grounded". Faith's sister was a police officer, not an adopted ninja dressed like Christian Bale from Equilibrium. The bad guy was just a corrupt government official, not a dictator trying to create a system that enslaves mankind. The city was corrupt, not an extremely oppressive Dystopia. There was no violent uprising group. The story in Catalyst went big. Which I guess really sells that the game was trying to be AAA.

Which is odd because the first game in the end didn't feel so big and so big budget. The sequel on the other hand went for it, which was possibly a mistake.

I guess the open world was supposed to carry it to AAA success and it didn't. It somewhat hurts the game, maybe not as much as I originally thought. While it does have a lot of copy and paste Ubisoft syndrome Icon missions, you can mostly avoid those if you want. And I do because a lot of them involve running around the environment you will get tired of from simply running around to get to the more involved missions. In the end a lot of them feel like they are just there because open world games have stuff like delivery missions, races, and tower stuff.

But one of the counter points to this was that the more focused Main Missions(and some side missions) are more involved and reach the heights of the first game. Yes and no. I feel that if you focus on the main missions you'll get more of what you want and you can since the progression system in this game is pointless. The main missions do feel a bit better, but none of them reach the more handcrafted levels of the first game which all seemed to be crafted around a specific type of environment. City roof tops, sewers, drainage systems, and so on. Allowing for crazily designed environments you'd remember. There is rarely a a place in Catalyst that is memorable. Most of them are all just inside some office building that really the only difference is maybe the color and layout. Surprisingly one of the better environments was in a side mission. A Building under construction with an extreme high point to look upon the city. I think one of the Dougen missions where you basically drop a giant pendulum was also good, but most of them are not anywhere as memorable as that Underground Sewer from the first game. Either in an aesthetic and puzzle way.

Also most of the gadgets given to add to the traversal feel like they slow down the gameplay more than anything and since the traversal of this game honestly feels rather easier then the first one. Having parts through in that are essentially QTE's doesn't really help.

But also to cheek off the checklist the game has a progression system that seems to be there simply because a game like this would have one. Yet it's strange because abilities that you innately had in the first game have to be unlocked. Which no doubt had to impact the designing of the more focused missions because you can't guarantee what a player will have. But I mean having the roll being an unlock is pretty stupid. Yet, in the end it doesn't take much to unlock the useful stuff anyway without even really needing to dabble in side content.

Also the fighting. My god the fighting. I feel like since they think they improved it, they should employ it. And it just feels like nothing. Like you're just spamming kicks and punches in the hope that something happens. Most of the enemies seem unable to handle the slide kick or the analog stick+kick moves anyway.

So I guess after finally playing it on PC I can see why maybe the game was left on the sidelines. It is good and it is a sight to behold, but it doesn't feel like anything really come together. It's just simply the concept of ME is strong enough to push through that.

This looks like a pretty cool concept- "Nelo Blends Bullet Hell, Run N’ Gun, Hack N’ Slash In One High-Speed Package."

That voice acting needs work, but the gameplay looks insane.  It's on Steam now as an early access title for $20.

I grew up on Halo, spent a lot of my teen life on h2 and h3. Travelling to tournaments nationwide etc.

I never even bothered with H5 in the slightest. Tbf imo h3 was when the series started to stink, reach is when it actually started to go downhill. So its not all 343s fault.

I like the 343 games more than most, and thought 5 was better than 4. For what that's worth fistful.

hungry is a bit right though, 3 was weird in that it was both the peak and beginning of decline for the franchise. Ppl love Reach's campaign but the mp changes were not taken well by hardcore halo peeps (sprint/abilities) and the 343 games were a continuation of that.

I honestly only care about the campaigns. Reach is my favorite by far. I may just give 5 a shot, it's cheap and I like Halo enough to get something out of it.

I think the thing I'll need to do is give ODST another try. I bounced off of it really quick but I think I'd be more willing to give it a shot.

Halo 5 is a really mediocre game. There's nothing really interesting about it. I replayed it not to long ago along with 4 because I really wanted to see why people dislike 343's direction of the series and well to me it's really because they are unambitious games.

I don't think the new enemies are really good and feel like they are there for the sake of it. They don't really add much to the Halo Sandbox and do little to seem them apart from the Covenant. They don't seem to really feel unique in the way grunts and elites do compared to those sniper dudes or the big armored Covenant. The point of those was to require a difference in approach. I feel like I approached the new Halo 4/5 enemies the same way. Making battles with them pretty much the same. Sure they tried to make them more unique, but since Prometheans just feel like failed copies of the Covenant ideas they just fail. Never mind the boss battle in the game that repeats over and over.

But also Promethean weapons also add nothing and are often just the Promethean version of already there human weapon. Except I guess the Promethean assault rifle is extremely over powered. It locks on and kills things so fast, you almost might as well only use that gun. Especially since it locks unto the weak points of the Prometheans, making short work of them all the time.  So honestly it kind of just feels like tired Halo in the end.

The story is whatever. It feels like Halo wank all the time. More interested in expanding Halo lore then telling an actually interesting a good story. If you aren't well versed in the Halo wiki , most of the game is just throwing a bunch of crap at you. Who do I care about MC's Squad who are supposed to be the best of friends? I don't read the Halo novels and Halo 5 does nothing with these characters other then display them. Seriously, MC's squad is devoid of personality and character that it's almost shocking. But I guess if I read the novels I'd know how tight they are. Same with Locke's squad who are snore enduing in their personalities, but even though I  don't remember their names I at least remember their character types. Tough military chick, slightly less tough military chick(she's the smart one), Locke who is by the numbers, and Nathan Fillion playing Nathan Fillion.

Also the Squad thing doesn't tie into any interesting mechanics at all. Hell a simple they give you ammo thing would be nice. So I could use the human weapons for more then five minutes a level, but nope.

And there's some bland AI is realizing the best way to save humanity is to enslave humanity crap with Cortana at the core which just feels like a lame direction for Halo to go into. The whole MC going rogue is half baked and contrived. He just didn't answer a call basically. It's just such a meh game.

I guess it looks really nice on the Xbox one X though. It's nothing awful, but like Gears 4 it just felt like a tired installment I. These long running Xbox series that really need a breath of fresh air, but they are clinging to these old and done trilogy's that are over. Halo 4 and 5 just don't go far enough and forge something new and new stuff they do just feel very half assed.

Hey guys, did any of you play Watch Dogs 2? Is it a better game than its predecessor? I heard some good things and it's getting cheaper so I wanna try it out...

I played and beat Watch Dogs 2. I could not stand the first one.

I'm not really sure why I played through it. I think I found the setting of San Francisco to be pretty nice. The whole Internet Dweeb hacker tone was less obnoxious then whatever the try hard crap in 1 was. The game was colorful and had some personality, even if it was manufactured personality. It was just less hard edge and that was nice.

But honestly the gameplay is kind of crappy. It wants to be a stealth game, but the stealth is to dumb down and janky. It doesn't want to be a shooter, but in the end shooting feels like the less tedious choice. It's just the shooting feels kind of janky and doesn't work with the game's setting and tone.

Man, the Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Collectors Edition is bothering me subtly. EU version, if that matters.

Huge box. Interesting to open. You slide off a sleeve and then pull aside the two sides of the remaining box to get at the innards.

And then there's an empty metal game case, a normal copy of the game (case and all), a CD with the OST and a soft-cover artbook inside. Pretty standard, all things considered.

So far so good. Now on to the part where I hate myself for complaining, but can't really help but do it anyway.

There's that subtle annoyed feeling. I now have an extra game case. The tin can does indeed look nicer than the normal one, so they probably intend for me to discard that. Throwing it away is stupid, however - while keeping it is stupid too. I'm usually storing away the cases to save space anyway, so it's kinda useless in the first place, to top it all off. Waste of space altogether, if I'm being frank.
The artbook is massive, but pretty fragile, making me want to store it away instead of thumb through it at leisure. No ebook or (switch/iPad) app version as well, so it's unwieldy either way. Just offer a PDF viewer that also plays the soundtrack in the background, dammit. No manual, as usual nowadays :maf - the artbook is only an artbook. Missed opportunity, methinks.
The OST is pretty rad, but I'd honestly have preferred a USB stick with FLAC and MP3 files to spare me the "work" of ripping (and probably re-tagging) them. Afterwards it is stored away, never to be seen again, again.
The box is effing huge and a beauty for sure, but also unwieldy. The age-old fundamental problem of "What the fuck am I going to do with it now". And it's not even a limited run with serials, so I bet this thing will be on clearance down the line and I'll see it and it'll bother me unreasonably.

I don't really want to complain about such trifling matters, and they'd be easily evaded if I just didn't bother with CEs, but I'm doing it anyway. Feels bad. I could have gotten the normal version for twenty bucks less, but then I'd have tossed and turned at night because I didn't get the damn CE and all the neat shit inside.

...I'd have liked a red game cartridge. Why are these CE game carts always the standard ones. Wait, don't answer that,  I know why. I just like to complain. I think. Sigh. ::)

Being a self-loathing videogame nerdling and consumer whore is such a chore, sometimes.

This Doki Doki Literature Club wasn't anywhere near as good as the fanbase hyped it up to be. Only one scene managed to be effective with what it set out to do. The rest of them were pretty laughable.

Ending song was cute though.

The social commentary in the game made me laugh. "Life is so hard for us black folks" Says the black character with a job at Google.

This is the first new EDF entry I'm skipping. Forget this dumb tie-in stuff.

They're charging $80 + $50 season pass for EDF. EDF started as a Simple 2000 series $20 game. Now there is a $130 LE version on the PSN store. Way too pricey for my blood. It's not like the games even do much besides iterate at this point. I'll pick it up when it's used for like $20.
