I remember reading really weird stuff about that gens Bethesda games on consoles. Like if your save file got too large on fallout 3 it would stop tracking collision detection in the Pitt dlc map, and all sorts of bizarre things.

i first played new vegas on ps3 and that had an issue where the game would lag once your save file got to a certain size and eventually as it grew you'd be running at like 10fps

the fix for it was just to only have one dlc pack installed at a time and then it would run normally.

i played nothing but fallout 3 on ps3 for like a whole year and by the end of it holy fuck was it a mess. game ran like shit, load times were eternal, and i couldn't even listen to the radio anymore because it would always make the game crash.

20+ years. Which is about how far behind the times most Nintendo fans tend to be.

I just hope the cpus are close, that’s where engines non graphical capabilities lie. I don’t care if the normal maps are only 2x instead of 4 for this rock on the dollar store xbox. But I do care if in the next elder scrolls the inn keeper ai won’t track how many forks I’ve balanced on his grandfathers head because the cpu calculations couldn’t be done on the worse system.

 

Were you part of the old IRC crew that played Supreme Commander? Now there was a fucking next level game in terms of needing and making use of your CPU. Too bad no one had a good enough computer and they went lame with the sequel and the RTS genre died.

Quite interesting. The itty bitty tiny subtitles still blows my mind. Maybe not so much if that happens to be the case on Switch handheld mode. I can see how that can happen sometimes if a game is designed more for a TV or monitor sized screen. But the fact that games have subtitles that are impossible to see on a huge ass tv is  perplexing. It's almost always the very first thing people complain about after a game is released. How do you guys and gals not catch this? Never test sitting on a couch 10 feet away from a living room tv?

Dating back to the X360/PS3 era I have never once had access to a monitor or television larger than 20" but during that whole era I have had a tv that was 32" or larger. At my current job I have some off brand TV at my desk that is probably the smallest possible size to still support 1080p. I would wager this is not uncommon at all. Our QA department does not have access to anything larger either.

So unless someone at some point in development thinks about playing the game on a larger tv... it probably just gets forgotten.

I will say that I worked on an iOS thing that got a lot of attention for its accessibility (positively) so it is something I've argued for for years (that and I owned Dead Rising NEVER FORGET). I actually found the smallest readable (in vr) font size for our game and argued A TON any time someone put in something that would have to be at a smaller size. Sadly I lost that fight far too many times. I feel the worst for fans of our game who play in certain languages because the problem is even worse for them then it is for English.

Funny enough, the SNES was one of the first consoles where changing resolutions quite regularly between scenes/menus/etc. was a pretty common thing. Especially to use the different Modes.

NFS 2015 is awful fucking garbage. I've never seen cars handle this poorly in a racing game. The assists constantly take control and drift you into walls. Disabling all assists doesn't actually disable the autosteer. How does this even get made? Like, did Ghost even play this? Uninstalled after 30 minutes. 

I played the ea access demo of the latest one this week to experience the hot ass story (better than the Irishman imo) and it’s not much better.

Maybe I’m too used to Forza horizon  but the handling model is terrible, so bad I’d rather play drive club  . I’m surprised EA haven’t put a bullet in ghost games and the series tbh.

I can tell you right off the bat and using one company that it's just dividing equally across the time periods. Magnavox discontinued the Odyssey in 1975 after selling 350,000 total, of which possibly a third were sold in 1972 alone. It does not reach this mark in the video until 1976 and then sales KEEP GOING. The better selling Odyssey2 did not hit the main market until 1979. So the sales should have stopped sometime early in 1976 and then not started up again until 1979. The sales keep growing during the entire 1976-1979 period.

It's also not entirely accurate as it gives Magnavox 2.9 million sales when it stops. But Odyssey (350K) + Odyssey2 (2 million) is 2.35 million. It does "accurately" stop as Magnavox left the market entirely in 1984 and their bar stops growing when the date hits 1985.
