Soul Hackers 2 reviews kind of suck. Pretty generous 7/10s saying the story is weak and the dungeons are weak and the battle system is simple megaten and soundtrack is just ok and all it's got going is the visual style. Also even on PS5 apparently it's got tons of load screens.

This is the team that did Tokyo Mirage Sessions which also seemed to score around that (I never got around to playing that one). Just seems like a weaker team at Atlus. Also csince people were kind of mixed on SMTV, this is like two Megaten mehs in a row for them. Haven't had a real hit since P5 six years ago. I kinda feel like this is when Sega bought them? Hope the era of great SMT and SMT spinoffs isn't over. I mean the main Persona leads have left for their original IP as well. Kaneko's locked in a basement. It's just not look super optimistic.

I'm really hoping they do an SMTIV Apocalypse asset flip of SMTV that fixes all the issues people had with SMTV. That would be nice. Though whenever the PC port of SMTV is announced, whatever Royale/Maniax version it is might address some of that too.

Atlus should just make a Devil Survivor 3. Those were the last great SMT spinoffs. Especially DS1 which is a fuck awesome Megaten game.

Picked up a copy of Need for Speed Most Wanted (2005) for the original xbox at the local flea market. Game still holds up. Nice surprise to see my old save files survived all these years as well. Seems my car was a Mitsubishi Eclipse covered in Tiger decals. Good stuff.

Left and right hands not talking. As far as worldwide conglomerates go, Sony's always been pretty "loose." I'd say their various divisions have more autonomy than the equivalents at Microsoft in the early 2000s, to paint a picture.

Sony Pictures only nominally answers to Sony Group Corporation, but they sure as hell can mine the corporate IP barrel for "easy" hits.

That's just Embracer naming their larger subsidiaries after existing companies. IIRC the management isn't actually from those companies, like the Gearbox group doesn't have Randy Pitchford or anybody else from Gearbox Software running it.

Curious if the game will deliver. At least it's not going to be one of those vaporware titles as a beta is already coming in October

Probably, but don't do it.  This company is notorious for issues with QC.  I've been pretty lucky with them, but now that the Steam Deck is a thing, it's nice to be able to buy something where you can get actual customer support and even a replacement unit if something goes wrong.  I wouldn't buy anything except the Steam Deck at the moment for this reason.  One of my friends who also got a GPD Win 3 when I did had the battery swell and it damaged the case where the keyboard is.  After a lot of back and forth, he finally got them to send a replacement battery, but the casing is still fucked.

The people who make the similar Aya line of handheld PCs have a model like this coming out soon.  I might look into that or just something from them in general.

I picked up the Short Hike physical from Super Rare Games yesterday since it was a really nice game a few years back. Interesting that it's their best selling physical release yet.

The game is wonderful, but didn't realize it was so big in the gaming community. Never heard anyone talking about it outside the first month it released.

I think they both look pretty bad :(

Which sucks as a fan of both series and creators. Art and overall look is so important in these kinds of games and they are really flubbing it with the visual designs.

I mean the game was free on release if you were subbed to humble bundle and was like $5 if not.

It’s a small couple hour game but has great controls and gameplay and a nice cozy island. Very cute feel good game with great 3d platforming gameplay.

Gamescom

System Shock felt good to me, but I can't compare it to the original.

One Piece didn't do it for me. Weird controls, lame combat.

I never played Goat Simulator, but really liked the new one. A seldom sandbox that feels like a sandbox.

Didn't play Dead Island either, also liked the new one. Good balance of over the top combat and profound survival mechanics.

Sadly only a walking sim demo for Alone in the Dark. But it had quirky Twin Peaks vibes, which kinda fits in with the originals.

Pacman remake is a decent average platformer. Spongebob is pretty by the numbers.

Samurai game from the Blazing Chrome guys seems like another above average clone. Mostly spent the time nerd talking with the developers, while the other testers couldn't do the level. :doge

Gungrave is awesome. I guess this will get bad reviews, but if you like arcady Japanese games and edgy animu, imo this will be a must.

Even weirder, Sonic Frontiers is okay? The controls in the tutorial were fun and responsive.

It's a shame the supply chain is a mess right now, I think Sony or Microsoft would've released an RNDA2 handheld if we didn't have all the economic problems.
I wonder if Nintendo is going to switch back to AMD too for their next system.

I wonder if Nintendo is going to switch back to AMD too for their next system.

I would be extremely surprised if Nintendo switched from ARM (which they've been using since the GBA back in 2001) to x86-64, an architecture they've never deployed. Nintendo knows PPC and ARM, not x86, and even when they dabbled outside their own console for mobile all those devices were ARM too.

Like I said, I'd be very surprised. I think it's more likely they go back and repurpose PowerPC into their own custom architecture than go x64 (and I'd peg that happening at maybe 1-2% likely).

I misread, you meant AMD for GPU not CPU. :duh

If they're talking to AMD though it's for a single chip. I don't think the ARM's in the Switch were Nintendo's decision as much as they were nvidia's. Presumably Nintendo would want another SoC and I would doubt AMD would make one with a different CPU on it.

Saw this tutorial on hacking a Vita. I have a Vita and Vita TV sitting around somewhere. Why not. Looks simple and only needs a $8 memory card adapter. So I’m looking around at what it can do. Find a list of all the translation patches and undubs, et al. Quite possibly the most fitting stereotype on Vita enthusiasts, a great deal of these patches are labeled uncensored and lewd. Amazing.

Last of Us remake is such a weird game. Looks like it's overall impressive on a technical level but offers almost nothing new when it comes to gameplay.

It also suffers a little under the "change shit just for the sake of changing shit" remake curse

I'll probably play it someday since I haven't played the game since the original PS3 release and it was one of my favorites. But yeah very unnecessary.

It's obvious the game was not made for all us old foggy gamers that were gaming in the great old age of 2013, but to sell to casuals getting into games for the first time after watching the soon-to-be-hit-HBO-Show. In that case, why they are releasing this almost a year before the show airs is kind of baffling. If I were Sony I'd have sat on this for a year even if it was finished and released it when the show aired.

It's also funny how almost all the reviews are reviewing it based on the price of the game. You don't see that much in other reviews but here it's really sinking the scores. If they had just sold it at $30-$40 the metacritic would have been 10 points higher. They lost being able to claim another 90+ metacritic game because they were too shortsighted in pricing it.

I'm much more interested in watching the Neil Druckmann directed* show than replaying the game.

*For like 1 ep I think, but still neat to see the original creator so much involved in an adaptation.
